When we engaged a golem in WvW yesterday, the player who used it obviously used a speedhack and “ran” away much faster than we could to hunt him down.

I was pretty angry, what can I do to end this in our current match? Just a report for… botting? Or is a fast response by Anet possible if I record it and post it here in the forums?

Also, shouldn’t be the whole server who supported this / played along be punished? Guys were attacking alongside this hacker.

Have you experienced such a thing?

Absolutely do not post hacker complaints on the forums, especially with videos and stuff. It is more likely to get you in trouble then get them a faster ban, continue to use the in game feature and hope ANet Admin get to it quickly.

As far as the other players, what do you expect them to do just stop playing WvW because one person on their server is cheating? To punish them would be unfair and quite silly.

Posting it on the forum wouldn’t get you a faster response. If anything it will be slower because the people who check the forum are the PR team so they’d have to see it, contact the people who actually deal with botters and pass the message along for them to come and check. Whereas an in-game report goes directly to the relevant department.

Also they’re officially off for the Christmas holidays with only essential services being covered, so it’s less likely than normal that it would even be seen by anyone. I don’t know for sure but I would have thought reports would be one of the things they are checking.

As for your other question I think punishing the entire server would be excessive. Even in a relatively small group it’s entirely possible some people were nothing to do with the player in the golem and had no idea what they were doing. Maybe if they can prove somehow that other players were involved or encouraging it, but unless they were stupid enough to talk about using hacks in in-game chat that’s probably impossible.

I still can’t believe how hard it is to catch these people. just have some sort of “if position is more than 1000 units away from previous location 1 second ago and you are not near a wp, flag as potential hacker.” then reduce that distance under certain conditions, such as in a golem or crippled, and increase under others, such as using RTL.

Just to make it clear: I do report those players ingame, but there is no option for reporting “hackers” and I don’t know if the option “botting” is appropriate in that szenario.

In practice, the label “botting” covers all forms of cheating.

(In fact, I find it doubly appropriate when applied to a siege golem.)

You could also record the video and submit the link privately through a ticket on the support website. Can take a while for them to get to it, but I’ve done it for several severe trolls and haven’t seen them since.
