upgrading PC for GW2
http://www.logicalincrements.com/ I think this is the best guide for computers parts
i5 – Any version will be grand.
If you won’t overclock, then the i5-4690 is the same CPU just not unlocked.
Check some “bundles” on sites…
Hard to provide advise when there is no set budget
Hey guys, thank you for responses, I will defenetly have a look at those!
so the only difference between these 2 CPUs is the potential to overclock one, but not the other right?
I was thinking about closing in 500$
On a side note, I’ve heard (just today) that it might be good idea to buy SSD drive, paired with strong CPU it should increase system performance (especially loading) quite nicely. Do you think it is indeed worth the money?
In regards to the SSD: I have an SSD now but started GW2 on a USB 3.0 hard drive and I don’t notice any FPS difference, however GW2 does load a lot faster.
Is it really worth it, considering loading screens are already fast and few-and-far-between, not really.
If an FPS boost is what your’re looking for the money can be better spent else where.
Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe if you get a Intel i5 and a new mobo then the ddr2 ram WILL NOT fit into it. So something to consider when upgrading your CPU and Mother board is that you will need new RAM at the same time.
Good news is your GTX 560 is gonna be fine for GW2 in most situations.
Hi again!
I finally got to creating fll list of parts I want to get which I want to present to you guys!
Here are parts I already got:
graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560
650W power supply
Hard drive: SAMSUNG HD321KJ
And things I want to get:
CPU: Intel Core i5 4460 3,20 GHz
RAM: Kingston HyperX DDR3 2X 4GB 1600MHz XMP CL9 Genesis
MoBo: MSI Z97 PC Mate
And if I decide to get SSD it will be: Samsung 2.5’’ SSD 840 Evo 120GB (Serial ATA3) Basic 7mm
Any more input would be appreciated. From what I have checked these parts should be compatible with each other, but maybe I have overlooked something? Too weak power supply maybe?
The advice here isn’t bad, but I would ask these questions on a forum more that is dedicated to PC building. Go over to the forums at tomshardware.com
There are some good, smart and helpful folks that will help you upgrade what you want and may be able to save you some money in the process.
SSD is not effective for upping FPS on a budget. I have one.
Nor is your GPU your main bottleneck here.
What you’ll want is the CPU upgrade as primary. Also look into cooling options if considering overclocking. An overheating higher clock processor cannot compete with a full-efficiency well-cooled lower clock processor through the thermal throttling.
