Anyone know how to reduce latency/ping?
My minimum ping when playing GW2 is something like 200ms. Half the time its closer to 300, and I’ve seen it go over 800 for extended periods. When I play WoW its like 40-50, so I don’t think it’s my internet.
This is technically the wrong forum to ask in I guess, but ping doesn’t really matter that much for other parts of the game.
Be closer to where anet hosts there games are.
If your in Washington and Anet is in Florida, then of course your not going to have as good as ping as WoW being in Washington and your in Washington as well.
Another thing make sure your not running IE explorer in the background, also make sure no one else is using your internet connection.
One last thing, direct internet connection is better than wireless.

If you live in China but play on NA servers, obviously you’re going to get high ping.
Wahoo! Bye frands!

Unfortunatly, pings are super bad in gw2, thats usual. Latency has been quite good for the first year after release, but its getting higher and higher. I guess they started with much more server power and paced it down over time.
Maybe because they didnt reached their expected pool of active players, so they throttled them down? Or its because of the megaservers(do they influence the spvp?)?
I dont know, just spectations. But its fact(for me and all the people im regulary playing with) that latency got much higher since release.
Theres no/very few rubberbanding and stuff, but the overall latency is crazy bad. I dodged like a young god back in the days, nowadays im having troubles with earthshakers… :P
Or im just getting old… /jk
BTW: Im running an optical fiber cables connection(10 Megabyte DL a sec!) and in any other game, my ping is always top3 on server.
I thought they were in seattle? Less than a 5 hour drive for me and 200+ ping. Other games ping is usually under 20 so it is likely on their end. That much delay just doesnt work woth Gw2’s gameplay either. Chances are they are dialing back on Pvp servers as I just dont see their marketing model as long term sustainable
servers are in texas.
Ive always had problems with latency, however, my in game latency and my speedtest latency have always been similar, so I’m not sure what problem youre having.
Try using WTFast.
You probably already know this but I’ll tell you anyways, turn off any net intensive apps like your browser, skype etc. Play over lan and not over wifi. Try to play on non peak hours, if you live in a apartment complex or a densely populated area 5-9pm will be peak hours.
