Hey everyone,

This is a wording bug not a content issue. The design behind the dungeon tracks was that players would need to run the track multiple times to get the entire set of weapons and armor.

19 – weapons
18 – pieces of armor (6 light, 6 medium, and 6 heavy)

Upon completing a track you will get 3 weapons and 1 piece of armor all your choice including stat combo. Upon running the track multiple times you are able to either save tokens for legendary or use tokens to speed the process up of getting the full weapons/armor set you are working towards.

The fact the text says “set” is a mistake that we are going to update soon. Any other questions just let me know.

Is it intended to take anywhere from 40-70 hours to get a full set of the armor, especially when comparing it with the relative ease of acquiring it in PvE?

Assuming 10-20 minute runs, it takes only about 5-6 hours in PvE to acquire the set using the daily reward bonus.

The majority of players have never completed all four Arah paths let alone done so in 10-20 minutes. That’s crazy hyperbole. There is a handful of groups who run fine tuned speed clears of dungeons that can complete some paths in a short amount of time, but they would make up less than 1% of the total GW2 population. No-one is acquiring sets of Arah in 5-6 hours of PvE, certainly not their first set (you also downplay how significant the daily time gate on dungeons is, especially noteworthy when sPvP only has a time gate on hot-joins). Acquiring Arah armour in PvE (outside of buying runs) requires some player ability (it is arguably the most difficult dungeon in the game). Acquiring Arah armour in sPvP simply requires turning up, you don’t even have to win.

Arah armour is one of the most elite armour sets in the game (one of the few that used to represent player skill) and players are able to farm it while losing, the current system is actually quite generous all things considered.

Everything I said still applies. I don’t see how the prestige of one armor set negates the reality of the discrepancy. There’s more than one dungeon set.

I myself already have the full Arah set, it’s certainly not as hard as you make it seem. The point is that the current system makes PvE the only means of actually acquiring the skins in any reasonable time.

Wow, I guess the time they spent into coding the Citadel of flame and crucible of eternity tracks, was literally wasted time.

I mean who is going to use those tracks when they come up, when you can run all three paths of both of them in under an hour (Okay maybe an hour and twenty given loading, snacks and selling breaks.)

Seriously guys, what did you expect? Getting a full arah set for 10 hours of casual pvp’ing?

Getting that in PvE takes 1380 tokens. You get 60 per run per path once a day, else it’s 20. Running one path can take anything from 1-4 hours, depending on the path and how routinized you are.

So we’re talking 23 multi-hour runs of the hardest dungeon in the game, that you guys want to substitute with 10 hours of pvp?

I know whining and feeling disadvantaged is natural behavior for many pvp-’ers, but gimme a break.

Did you read any of this? A path of Arah doesn’t take more then about an hour unless you are a moron even with mediocre players. We don’t want it to take 10 hours we want it to take less then 80-100 plus hours. This reward track will take about 100 hours to do six times at least based on the calculations I did on how I was progressing. It doesn’t take anywhere near as long as that running the dungeon. It is a joke. Take your kneejerk defense of A-net elsewhere if you don’t want to look at the facts.

So 20 runs at an hour a piece is 20 hours. (If you don’t get any of the Bags of Wondrous goods, which add up), and at 1.5% per match, and 10 minutes per match it will take you 11 hours and 6 minutes to max one reward track. We also don’t get the 3 gold you get every run, so I’d say the 60 gold you’ll get is worth 5 hours of time. It should take closer to 15 hours IMO, as we were going a little too fast on the progression but now it will take us much longer than it would take you. Now if we have to do it 6 times we will end up spending triple the amount of time it would take you to get the armor in Arah, and all we get for it is a few shots at a precursor.
EDIT: And the hour per run is just with Arah. CoF, SE, etc. don’t take an hour per run, they’ll take you maybe 20 minutes per run and so you’ll end up taking longer with PvP than you would with dungeons even if you got the full set.

You are way under-estimating the time cost for pvp. Its more like 20 minutes to do one team arena match from queue start to game end. So its double what you are saying and even worse although I agree with you its a joke just its even worse then you are saying. They should change it to 3 armor pieces per run but even then it would be significantly longer then pve but more bearable. Silly us thought they were interested in adding fair parallel progression doing what we like to do which is pvp. They were really just trying to fool us. Shame on us.

I’ve got some thoughts:

Do we get a choice about which piece of armor we accept, or is it random which piece we get? Also, why only one piece? That severely increases the time players have to invest to an almost unreasonable degree. Like some people suggested, if not the whole set, why not half the set, like your choice of three pieces or something?

Hmm, here’s another idea: I suppose dungeon armor could be a single piece reward since they’re hard to get in PvE as well. But what about the other PvP armor, like the Tribal set? I think in that case, those armors should be offered as a whole set reward since they weren’t as demanding as dungeon armor.

Holy….. Does Anet realize the sheer amount of time one would have to invest just to get a full set of armor in each weight class, not even including all the stat spreads? That’s completely insane! Who seriously has that kind of time?!

Yep, you need to complete the track 18 times to get all the skins, assuming you don’t spend the token rewards you get along the way.

I don’t get it either. I’d rather they flip the weapons and the armors around.

Right? I mean, Anet did tell us that after the update, there’d be no more PvP crafting. I thought, “Alright, hey, I’m sure they’ll just put these PvP armors somewhere else for us to get. Maybe a karma vendor or something, since they’ll be unified with PvE armor.”

Then the patch came out.

“WHERE ARE ALL THE PVP ARMOR SETS?!” Oh, didn’t we tell you? They no longer exist! THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP! Seriously, I knew that PvP crafting was going out the door, but I guess I was naive to think they’d show up somewhere else.

Okay, maybe they will show up later on, but man, I wish it’d be soon. And by soon, I mean like… tomorrow. And really, these armor sets, if they’re not dungeon armor, should be much more reasonable to get.

sPvP is not supposed to compete with PvE in terms of farming or the ability to obtain things. That is by design, not an unfortunate oversite. You aren’t supposed to go to sPvP as the preferred method of acquiring equipment. The time it takes to progress these tracks is already faster for weapons (seriously, a weapon of your choice for a single tier is much faster than acquiring a 2 handed weapon in PvE – and that’s if you ignore the time gate on PvE dungeons) a full armour set upon completion would make dungeon rewards a joke.

There are way more weapons than armor pieces, so it makes sense to give more weapons. And with the token rewards, you only need to run the track three times to get a full set.

There aren’t; there’s actually a fairly close amount, as pointed out by Hugh. There are 19 weapons and 18 armor pieces.

Yeah each character only needs 6 armor skins but you don’t need all 19 weapons for every class either. You need anywhere from 1 (rifle engi in pvp) to 11 (pve warrior) to fill your range of possibilities.

Also, shouldn’t the more expensive items be the end-of-line rewards, and the cheaper items fill the lower ranks? 2h weapons are the most expensive pieces per-token at 390 each, while chestpieces are 330. There are also more 2h weapon skins per class (1(engi rifle pvp) to 5 (pve ranger)) than there are chestpieces (1) so the end chest retains its value for longer.

It takes a lot longer to get the end of track “reward” unless you’re running tournaments with an organised team. One piece of armour for that amount of time and effort is not acceptable.

I don’t know what kind of game are u playing, the only path of arah that takes more than 1h is arah p4 (1h30 max, for normal pre-made groups). Also the fast run of arah p4 recorded is 30min.
The tracks aren’t good enough to people get money for the legendary and ascended skins, unless they have luck with the rng (i am playing this game since the beggining and my best loot was abyss).
I am not saying to you win the same money that u win in pve, but more than 10times less (you win good money in pvp, with u win tournaments like wekkly esl… but that is limmited to a very small group of very good pvp players).
In 12h of pve i can make +100g just by doing dungeons runs, i am limited at 3h per day in dungeons (30-45g normally, selling every thing).
I play all types, pve, wvwvw and pvp. So i dont really have problems with the tracks, since i dont play pvp to get money and buy the skins i want (except balthazar, but that is pretty easy) my only concern is about people that only do pvp (like my brother) and want to get skins like legendary weapons, ascended or LS old skins.
This was the first patch and i belive that they will review things and update the tracks to give more rewards to people from pvp so they dont get to much unballanced with people from pve.

Since it’s pvp reward anyway, I think that it would be a good option if we received a whole SET of dungeon armor SKIN that can be applied onto the other items. This would keep the economical balance as well as satisfy pvp-only players that are currently complaining about how much harder it is to obtain new skins since the patch.

The only reason I did this track is because it specifically says it contains a ‘specific dungeon armor set’, and not ‘armor from a specific dungeon’ . If it’s a grammar issue then it should’ve been fixed with the recent updates due to the fact that’s it’s just changing a sentence of text. This is the content you chose to launch your largest patch with and you start off with a seriously misleading reward that players are spending several hours a day for many days working towards.

Get rid of the actual weapon and armor chest. Figure the average token cost of they various items and give us the tokens at the intervals, that way the player can pick what they want. This should work out to approximately 300 tokens at the 4 points in a track, or a total, with the 4 points that you get 60, of 1440 per track. I am not fully awake, so someone check my math.

Technically, yes, there are 19 weapons and 18 armor pieces, but realistically, that doesn’t reflect how many weapons a player needs vs how many armor pieces they need.

You only need 1-4 weapons (depending on profession and 1h vs 2h weapons used) and 6 armor pieces per character.

Even if you do want every weapon available for your character, you’ll still fill up on weapons before armor since it takes so much more to get an armor piece than a weapon.

Seriosuly I just want to moved onto another track not to do it again and even it getting tokens along the way, it will take weeks to get it (atm I’m busy at work so less time on the game)!

Yes, for getting the first set, it might be nice if armor and weapon chest would be switched. But then?
If you already have the skins of your choice, weapons seem to be better, as you “only” have to do 1,25 tracks in order to get 4 weapons you can throw into the mystical forge and you’ll get sellable exotic weapon out of it (with chances of a precurser).

@hugh
do you guys honestly look at these updates and think to yourselves, yea this is good for the game?

i mean i got most of these armor/weapons from casually playing tourneys from level 14-40 prior to the patch coming out, but quite honestly what’s going on w/ this mega server / pvp nuke / wardrobe bidness i can’t think of really anything positive for the game at large other than trying to bleed players for the sake of bleeding players in the gem dept. not much in the value add dept. in the way of game experience boost in what used to be the 3 areas that this game used to have.

not praising or criticizing things, just making an observation that as time goes on (been playing long before launch), the “things” that anet allows players to have & do gets less and less (looking for the derivative of players willingness to continue to play the game i guess?). its like those notices that your service provider gives you congratulating you for being their loyal customer while in the same sentence lets you know that your service fees are increasing 10%.
