I got into PvP pretty hardcore quite a while ago around when solo queue got introduced and it only took me about a week of playing on my thief to get “Champion Shadow” title. This doesn’t seem that problematic when you look at it like that but if you really think about it.

Champion title is a way of showing you’re likely to be a good thief. When you’re in WvW roaming and an enemy see’s you he’s going to see your champion shadow title and that’s instantly causing hesitation whether he wants to fight you or not. It’s the only thing we have that can show our skill with the class (even though it doesn’t mean as much as it should) and tells others what kind of player you may be.

I know Anet has their work set out for them with the new rewards and with the recent amazing work they’re putting into PvP and I think it’d be cool if there was kind of a side-progression going. Since farming ranks takes a pretty long time especially if you’re not lucky with teams it can be annoying.

Something like “Kill 500 enemies with a higher rank than you” would be cool to see. I do see the problem with that being the highest ranked players would be left out but i’m just brainstorming I guess.

A champion illusionist would probably be better than 98% of the game’s mesmer population. I don’t see the problem here.

Why would you even use those titles in PvP?
Especially in WvW, where people have more choices to escape.

If the title says “I am good at pvp”. This might lead some players in WvW to run away from you. Which means you wont be able to fight and maybe kill them. Which means, you wont get rewards. ^^

I dont the the incentive for sginalling in PvP my “skill-level” to my enemy before the fight even starts.

The rank point titles ie Gladiator, Mercenary… tend to be good titles as they go higher.

i tend to chase those guys with champ titles in WvW lol like a magnet to me calling me to attack them.

The solution could be simple. It’s true that nowadays it’s too easy to get “champion x” titles.
The “champion x” title should show class dedication, no? What if the title track doesn’t stop at 150 wins? What if after 300 tournament wins you get another title displaying your dedication to your profession? And after 600 another one? etc.

People who enjoy playing alts can still get champion titles for all classes but people who prefer sticking to their favourite class still have something to work towards in terms of profession related titles.

Personally, I’m in the latter category and it kinda bums me out there’s nothing left for me but general rank titles.

I kinda like collecting them, I have 4 so far.

I would however think it would be neat if there was a “legendary” equivalent of each unlocked by getting champion. IE “Legendary Illusionist” is win 150 matches while in the top 100 of either leaderboard, after getting Champion Illusionist.

Something like…after 600 tourney wins with a profession = Master ‘x’ etc.

The game has been out too long now for a champion to be taken seriously as a good player, though the title still has some merit.

More grindy achievement tracks is definatly what we need lol.

I would take a “such champion ranger” title.

Would annoy enough people to be worth it.
