The achievements are the hard part. Just stick to Aura Ele and you’ll cross the divisions by the end of next season.
I wish people would stop obsessing over the wings, it’s something you would earn then never display again after a week.
This reward has really made PvP unplayable.
That’s why I quit pvp at the beginning of season 2,( even though I played ranked pvp non stop for about 3 years straight and was pretty high on the old leader board before all the messed up changes they made) the matchmaking is a joke and only gets worse over time, and the countless premades farming clueless unorganized pugs is also a not so funny joke. There’s really no point in playing pvp any more if you’re a solo player, it clearly wasn’t made for solo players, unless you’re 1 of the lucky few who have extremely high mmr thanks to being lucky with the matchmaking or being carried by a premade.

I think the uneven team matching makes it unbearable, & the organized premades vs the unorganized pugs. I literally get nauseous whenever I try to play pvp on this game anymore. I can just imagine how new players feel whenever they attempt it for the first time in the state that it’s currently in…..
@MarkoNS
Nothing would please me more than to be in the tier I “deserve” with similar skilled players.
Sadly, the prize demands that I climb into tiers I don’t “deserve” while the matchmaker does it’s best to prevent me from doing so.
That’s dysfunctional, which is kind of the point I’m trying to make.
Sapphire was fun.
Ruby is full of morons. An endless stream of morons XD
Off to play Uncharted PvP :D

I’ve stop working towards wings in the beginning Season 2. By mid Season 2 because of the fact I was no longer playing for the shiny wings and just for some competititve pvp fun which the system is total against if you are a solo queuer, I started looking towards other games, yet kept a eye out on this game which I did loved, now all but giving up on for the most part atleast.
In my opinion once you either “Grinding or Lucked or Gave up on” your way to the wings as a solo queuer. The process is so bad that you just don’t even want to look at GW2 any more. But anyways what I’m trying to say is once a solo player’s quest to get the wings are over in which ever shape or fashion, there is nothing left because competitive is non existent. Yes there are uneven matches in other competitive PvP games, however no way near every game day in day out like in GW2.
But at least I admit it!
PoF guys get ready for PvE joys
You need to only get one division this season. Seeing as you still have almost one whole month left, you should be okay.
Remember, remember, 15th of November

That’s the thing with the wings. Their purpose seems to have been to draw in the PvE crowd, but once they get the wings, they’ll just go back to PvE. My guess is that Anet are going to keep adding in shinies, to try and keep bringing the PvE players back to PvP.
Beware the infraction bait.

The legendary wings weren’t made for everyone to get, granted you could be average at pvp and get them after all four seasons, one of the big issues with entitlement with these pvp seasons is that they don’t reflect actual skill so a lot of people feel they are better than they actually are, i.e. No division loss, so they are artificially inflated to higher divisions till they hit Ruby.

This is why i think it’s funny that people stress over pixels. By the end of season 4 every man and his dog will have the wings. It will and does mean nothing.

I have fulfilled all but one requirement for the wings. At only 377 games this season, I’ve taken it relatively easy it is true.
My current 22.3% Win rate is up from a low approaching 18%. That took a great deal of effort.
I’ve put in near employement hours in bursts into GW2 PvP during 3 seasons. In the course of it I’ve learned to have some basic ability in two new professions.
Still, the chances are rather slim to non existent that I can pass 4 divisions in the next 1 1/2 seasons with the matchmaking consistently putting me on the side scheduled to lose.
I’m hardly a casual player. It’s time to acknowledge that the wings really weren’t for “everyone” and that the matchmaking needs a conceptual change.
I’ll team up with you as well as others I’m sure. I have sent you messages in game. If the wings mean this much to you, I would like to see you get them.

I know right? I started working on them late I played till Emerald in Season 1 because I found the Meta to be very boring, and work got in the way, Last season came around I averaged 5-6 games a night got Diamond, slowed down on pvp this season and know I won’t get them till Next season and it’s perfectly fine. People are just impatient or want to blame others.

I didnt play Season 1. I stopped at ruby Season 2. Its beach season now so i am down to playing maybe 5-6 matches a week (i log in maybe once or twice a week) . Even with a 60% win rate im simply not playing enough games to get my division crosses. But lucky for me i don’t care about the wings. I’m just hoping ANET will come up with a fix (many have been suggested) to give more fun games and a leaderboard more representative of skill.

Not true, and I think some of you would be surprised at just how difficult this has been for some people.
I won’t have crossed enough divisions to get them, but then I don’t care about them either. And this season especially crossing 3-4 divisions is proving impossible for a lot of people.
When you win 1 game and lose 5-15 how on earth do you progress.

Well, 400 games in a single season is hardly a casual. That’s like 13+ games per day, every day. Not very casual, don’t you think?

An Average player is a player that can reach Sapphire/Ruby with relative ease can reach diamond with a bit of effort, if you have issues with that then you are most likely not an average skilled player, it takes 10 division crossings in a year which averages out to hitting Ruby each season or hitting which would be 12 division crossings, or Ruby twice sapphire twice which is 10..
Again I said an average player, how they have divisions set up causes players an inflated sense of skill since they can not start “losing” till they reach Ruby. Then there is the fact that’s there is 90 days to get to Ruby at a minimum each season the better skilled you are the faster it is to reach that goal. You don’t even have to play that much I have played a total of 191 games with 96 wins I am tier 5 Ruby this season by playing 3 games a night on average, I put minimal time investment during the weekdays.
Again the Legendary Wings were not designed for everybody to get, at minimum you have to be average in skill or be carried to achieve them.

Or the matchmaker puts me in groups that can’t win against superior teams. You people have got to stop assuming that someone is a bad player because they lose 15 games in a row. I’m 1 of 5, 20% of a team. I’ve been in games where my input wasn’t even required for a win. You have no idea what my skill level is and immediately assume that im the piece that fails. Talk to some of the previous season legends on here that are going through this and enlighten yourself on just how bad this matchmaker can be.

The idea that anyone can get the wings despite their skill level in what is supposed to be a competitive environment is just ridiculous. I can’t wait till this whole pvp season is over, so that maybe Anet can implement a proper pvp season next year.
The legendary wings were advertised as available to everyone. It follows that everyone should have been able to get them.
I’ve put in excessive effort and may well not make it. The PVE people that the wings were meant to attract had no chance to begin with.
The matchmaker is set up specifically to deny the prize that was offered. How is that likely to affect PvP population? Will PVE players be encouraged to come learn PvP? Or will they never come back after being steamrolled a bunch of times?
Here’s my latest match, for which I waited 11 minutes. I’m the blue Ele. This isn’t competition. ANET needs to provide fair matches.

it means probably they always fight you outnumbered so easy kill and targeting you team
I’m nearly out of energy and ready to log for the day. Here’s my results since I started this thread yesterday. That’s 33 losses and 5 wins.. or approximately 15.2% wins. The vast majority of those by ROFLSTOMP.
I’ve done my part.. I’ve worked as hard or harder than most. This matchmaking is not right.

Man you must by bad player. 400 game and only 80 win is only your prolem. Any better match making systom dont increase your skill, that is all
Many bad players think they are good but not.
My advice is, go in to 1v1 arenas and train.train.train.

That’s my tier. I’ve won games despite DC problems but also lost mostly due to DC problems as well. Keep in mind that metabattle builds are put up by pros and they don’t necessarily have the same psychological makeup, temperament, or styles we have so you might not want to blindly copy metabattle. Copying metabattle could be why lots of people are stuck in a tier. The builds are also from the context of syncing with other metabattle builds in a teamspeak proleague setting, and the builds speak to the particular players’ values.
So go with what you value. Cleric’s is a boring one trick pony amulet that doesn’t take advantage of ele’s resources fully like Mender’s kinda does. The class’s big skills are easily interrupted so build taking that into consideration. Opponents will relentlessly follow you and if things aren’t going well you’ll have trouble finding your team anyway. Mender’s will make no-go zone skills have actual teeth while still keeping a good amount of healing power. You won’t have condition damage for fire but d/f fire still has great power damage anyway and burning is strong enough without condition damage and can be applied to low HP thieves or engis as the damage will follow during disengage and reset attempts.
There have been several claims that I must simply be bad. In direct response to that ( AND DIRECTLY ON TOPIC ) Here’s my stats from one of my 34 losses today.
There’s nothing “bad” about my output and contribution to the team.. though in this case I probably could have provided more heal. That’s nearly 1/2 a million damage for the match and healthy healing output.

Did you miss the screen shot up above of where his entire teams score was collectively the same as the lowest guys on the winning side.
To suggest that he, 1 person in a 5 man group is the bad player is just willful ignorance.
I don’t want to say bad, but we all need to find where we’re weak and fix it. You might want to upload some ele footage so we can get context behind the numbers. It’s still a new class for you but don’t be afraid of being original while remaining practical.
Of course there’s the other side of the coin: put LeBron James on a team with children against a high school varsity team and he’d likely lose, but it’s doubtful the skill gap is that huge in Sapphire so every improvement goes a long way. Yes your teammates and opponents will largely stay the same but with each improvement you close that gap between your team and your opponents’ team.

This is truth. I know I am at best Sapphire, I made my peace with that.
But the fact that my wins/losses is purely decided by team comp is frustrating. I have had wins where I contribute plently, and wins where I could dance on point to the same effect.
Same with my losses, which are much more frequent.

The matchmaking is disgusting. Almost impossible matchups for low MMR players and free wins for high MMR players (see all the screenshots with 20-40+ winstreaks on these forums).
With so many lost matches you wont get good matchups in my experience. Even if your opponents aren’t that good either I doubt you can progress solo. If you really want the wings you have to find a team. Improve yourself is always a good advice. It is just that you would have to improve so much that you could carry bad teams. This is not going to happen as average player imho.

The wings were to be available to anyone. I’ve worked harder for them than most and therefore, I do deserve them.
In addition, the point of this thread is that the matchmaking is setting me ( and many others ) deliberately to lose. Hence, my atrocious record.
-edit- OK I simply can’t play anymore.. having started yesterday evening. To show that the issue is not me but is matchmaking :
Note, I’m second in personal score. I did over 1/2 million in damage. I provided my teammates 325,000 + in healing, 361 boons and removed 349 conditions. I have heard ESL pros talk about 500,000 damage as a good number. No, the issue here is not me.

Sure it exists. I can notice the quality of people in my team going down if I loose a lot and going back up after winning a few matches in a row.

Thank you for the compliment. By implication you agree that I am not in fact playing badly enough to justify a win rate that is dipping under 20%.
That is pretty much the point of this thread.
People, will never get them. Constantly complain about bad teammates, and yet can’t be bothered to queue as a team.
@Chaith Again, thank you. Your blessing is more significant than the screenshot.
@Starbreaker The point of this thread is twofold; First, the wings were advertised as available to everyone. They should therefore be available to everyone. My case illustrates that they are not.
Second, the matchmaker is stacking sides with one side expected to win. That is not logical and it’s producing rather extreme results. It should therefore be fixed.

I have never seen anything stating by Arenanet stating that anyone can get them and if there was it could have meant anyone can get them if they meet the criteria because outside of the achievements there is nothing stopping anyone, pvp is mostly a skill based game mode, yes there are flaws that need to be addressed.
Personal score doesn’t mean much (no offense). I remember being scaled up early sometime season 2 and we had a couple of primordial legends in that game, yet I had the highest personal score and lots of “top” stats. Sometimes it may even be indicative of something bad, like if I have top damage on a thief I know I stayed in a teamfight too long (though getting top healing is weird on a thief or rev especially with a ranger or ele in the team but rez healing counts so…)
If anything I likely hampered the team since I only got Ruby in season 1.
The matchmaking is disgusting. Almost impossible matchups for low MMR players and free wins for high MMR players (see all the screenshots with 20-40+ winstreaks on these forums).
There are plenty of instances where people have allowed higher skilled players to use their so called “MMR HeLL” accounts. You know what happens?
