I’ll be rocking a d/d ele next patch.

+ s/d thief nerfed
+ stun warrior nerfed
+ Tempest Defense 60 cd to 25 cd
+ 5% to 10% increase dmg fire line
+ 16 attunement cd to 13 w/ no arcane traitline

30/30/10/0/0

Yes please run that build, that way I can kill you in roughly 0.5 seconds with my Engi or Mesmer haha. Or actually I don’t think I even need to bother, just random conditions and AoE damage flying around will be enough to kill you when fights break out on capture points.
Ele’s have what, 14k health +1800 armor ? All their survivability is tied to Arcane/Water + Cantrips.

Ele’s running Fire+Air builds = free glory.

I still think burning procs should be changed into a crit then buff situation. You crit which activates the buff which says “your next attack causes burning” this allows the other person to dodge and puts importance on landing your next attack. It will distinguish good players from players who happen to hit 1 auto attack every 10secs. It stops it being faceroll damage that is unavoidable (unless the enemy never hits you – and not everyone has feline grace <- btw why did they go for vigor over this bullkitten?)

Excited to see what comes out of the new meta, but definitely going in the right direction – reductions on damage and branching out to the sides.

you don’t get crits when you’re a spirit ranger, dude. we dont trait for crits. we trait for vitality, toughness, power and condition damage. it looks like you don’t have any idea about the spirit build. no offense meant. your suggestion is not helpful at all.

That’s a step, but an extremely awkward and odds say innefective one.
GW2 is hell to keep track of everything going on atm, adding the NEED to watch someone buff bar for a burn proc…
kitten no.

Nothing I said can be remotely classified as mean. However, you are another person defending an overpowered build because of your bias toward your main class and that will always get on my nerves.

I play thief/necro. I understand the nerfs coming to these classes and I don’t mind because they are honestly helpful for this game’s pvp. The same goes for the minor nerfs to spirit ranger. I actually quit playing my necro in tournaments after the Dhuumfire buff because I knew just how facepalm overpowered it was.

i’m done with this thread. this nerf surely made a lot of rangers unhappy. anet should had nerfed spirit rangers to oblivion if that’s what everyone was complaining about. one class gets a viable build and they just take it away like that. rangers are bad in pve not even considered useful in wvw. pvp is the only place that we feel we can be useful but no, we can’t have anything at all. zero. totally fair and just.

Ranger class in PvP has had a long line of overpowered builds carrying mediocre players. Ranger is also totally fine in PvE and is actually taken in speed runs now. It’s also fine for WvW, both zerging and roaming: You see plenty of roaming rangers and rangers are also taken in GvGs.

It seems that you have a great knowledge of the game but you are lacking in Rangers mechanics-gameplay..Or you are using wrong words…If we want to deeply analyze Rangers you will see that its not the builds that are overpower but the combination of them with the current meta.If you recall trap Rangers were for a long time an overpower build, since then nothing, and i mean NOTHING at all have changed in traps but now its an mediocre build..

I can agree that Rangers feel passive for most ppl, especially for those who dont play em.
But before we start stating a build OP its better to see in what meta is it and what aspects is making it OP..

BM got a nerf on pets dmg but the great aspect of it still lives on tho, its the huge regen. So why its not viable in high lvl pvp?Its because now jaguar hits instead of 8k for 4k?
No.
Its because is selfish, its because with all this condi spamming you have constant poison on you..Its that Engi do it better, its many many things that matter….So right now the BM isnt OP at all.

The same goes for Spirits, in a great cond meta 75% chance to cause burning on hit its huge..In a more power meta it wouldnt matter at all. Also Warriors dont have any problem with Spirit Rangers right now.

We all agree that Spirit Rangers became an totally passive build but you cant say its OP cause it fits in this meta..For me is weak and unfun to play it, defently not OP..And i want to make it a true support build, instead of a tanky cond spamming..

Either you like or not, Rangers should be able to support, and the way Rangers were build to support its the passive one, through healing and spirits..You should keep this choice, you shouldnt remove it cause some Spirit Ranger autoattacked you to the death. But i agree that you must also give Rangers a more skill rewarding build to play with..

But i think it comes down to the low competitive population, ppl dont try new things..Also i believe that Anet dont allow true roles to shine out.In LoL for example adc die so easily, they are making huge dmg, they have some ways to escape but it all comes down to the team to support it and protect it…Without a dedicated healer how can you actually protect a full glass cannon Warrior?Or a Zerker Ranger? There are not strong support builds to provide room for builds like these..So it comes down to the support-tanky, or support-burst, or support-cond-tanky etc etc

I was meaning for engi and necro burning effects. Just cause you’re feeling defensive about your ranger kitten doesn’t mean its the only thing on ppl’s mind.

Nods. We’ve actually seen some pretty interesting Ele builds crop up internally, based on the changes we’re trying.

My I first of all commend your team on reducing the attunement cooldowns. I am really looking forward to the changes on December 10th.

I am a dedicated dagger/dagger elementalist and I have been running a very unusual condition build for several months: 30,0,30,10,0 with cantrips and carrion amulet. I am consistently successful at holding points and surprising thieves and warriors with my skill and setup. Therefore, nobody more than me is excited at the prospect of the upcoming faster attunement swapping thanks to you guys. Having said that, there are some notable failings even with this setup in respect to utilities and survivability.

1) Is there any plans to look at utility cooldowns? In particular, “Armor of Earth” (90s cooldown), Cleansing Fire (40s) and Lightning Flash (40s). Of course, traits can shorten cooldowns by 20%, but what I recommend is to reduce by 20% by default and remove/replace the trait with something else.

2) Alternative to the above, how about increasing the base HP, perhaps to match a mesmer’s base HP?

Either of the above will introduce yet further viable permutations for dagger/dagger elementalist as well as for other disciplines.

3) Finally, the current Ride-The-Lightning (RTL) ability is flawed and is considered a buff to certain classes. If a thief goes invisible at exactly the same time RTL is invoked, the elementalist is immediately penalised in that the cooldown is instantly doubled. What plans, if any do you have for this problem?

Many thanks for reading this and I look forward to your response.

Kind regards
Candar

I’m thrilled that you have shared these changes with us. As an avid Mesmer player, the IC change is exactly what I’ve been looking for, and I think it will open a world of new builds to us.

However, for as excited as I am about IC, I’m as disappointed about two glaring Mesmer problems that have been around since the beginning.

1. The scepter autoattack. Scepter 1 is so bad that IF a Mesmer chose to use the weapon, then it would be for Scepter 2 and 3. If I ever use this weapon, I completely ignore the autoattack all together. This is unfortunate because I’d love to incorporate scepter into more of my builds, but it’s barely viable for a phantasm build, and it’s overshadowed by the use of sword 2 in shatter builds and most hybrid builds.

2. Phantasmal Mage. I HATE this phantasm. It tends to serve almost no purpose for me except for shatter fodder and a quick confusion burst. The Prestige is well worth running, so on occasion I’ll throw out the iMage, but every time I see that skill on my bar it makes me a little nauseous.

PLEASE, ANET—I and other Mesmers BEG you to do something with these two skills. At the very least, share your thoughts with us on this, because I think most Mesmer players see these as the two biggest problems with Mesmers.

There are hundreds of dead skills in this game and that is just the tip of the iceburg of GW2’s issues.
If you ever want to complain about misc weapons, go look at ele offhands, I mean the one no one uses.
Ever.

If it mattered (or if you think this does), focus on improving what already exists. When that is in a great state, work on expanding it to other setups.
There is so much cheese/shenanigans and just straight up badly designed stuff in this game that diversity is the least of it’s issues.
