I’ve said this earlier, now I feel I have to say it again. PvP designers must part their ways with this game. Seriously, I am not saying this because I am angry. This game requires fresh&new&quality improvement, and all we find is a backward movie of 1 year’s ago.
If I have to describe the newmatchmaking system, I think “feces” is the most harmless word I would pick.

Ranked matchmaking is full of utter “feces” now. This MMR and skill-rating based system, mixing things up with pve players who are in also ranked arena for the new rewards. The players like me who have been playing this game for long, are having the same issue. Since our total game count is big, matchmaking system calculates the TOTAL matches I have played so far since the day I started this game. If you are in the range of %50 to %60 win ratio, system immediatly thinks you are just another avarage joe and matches you with other pve plebs. It’s not my fault I spent the first two years of pvping in this game with %50 win ratio, and its so hard to make it increase since the total game count is too big. But matchmaking MMR system just sees the surface of it and makes you suffer by forcing you to play with total clueless guys. If you are insisting this game’s pvp always will be based of 5v5 conquest mode, then you haveto make sure you set the best matchmaking system that FITS and APPLIES to anyone. This game is already 4.5 years old and it just can’t be used as a guinea pig. We are sick and tired of it.

I have 9k game count and today in ranked arena, a necro in my team tried to rush to kill enemy lord that we already had killed 4 minutes earlier. Yes, he pinged like crazy and actually went there. Also, another game I get the guys who curses me in team chat cuz I am not killing early beasts in Forest map. Result? Ofcourse we lose like 500-100 in best sceneario. Seriously dear designers, thanks for this total “feces” pvp arrangement. You just made this game horrible.

I am not even gonna mention how a terrible idea adding Skyhammer to ranked arena, or making competitive ranked arena gives repeatable new rewards so that pve players can grind and grind without caring lose or win.

Your calculations of matchmaking rating stinks, your understanding of pvp is gross. It is time for Anet to take action and get the necessary but late alterations. I am truly sorry if my words are harsh but I believe somebody has to say it. We did not forget what a disgusting era season 1 is . You are, basically just resurrecting it once again.

It’s not there designers. It’s not there system.
It’s there reward Vs Risk between the professions,
Having professions that will allow player’s to be in an MMR there not suppose to be in, is throwing there whole system out of wack. while it will stabilize eventually. i think it’s going to take longer then there 2 mnt pvp season.

Completely what the OP said. I have over 12k matches overall over the span of this games life time. The difference between a PvEer (not saying all of them, but ALOT of them ) who knows nothing about rez times, thoughtful rotations, holding a point ect…. and a PvPer who has learned these things through time, are huge. Factor in both have a 50% win ratio and are justifiably teamed together, its madness and frankly quite frustrating. Countless times these “new to the pvp scene” kids literally cap a point and run off it cause they are itching to battle is throwing games in a horrible direction. At the VERY LEAST, I hope A-net gives a simple rotation tutorial or something to help those understand the game better, If not changing the placement algorithm to factor in Total games played.

The game has no clue how to differentiate individual skill in a team setting. Others will argue here that your skill level is the same as the necro player and you need to get gud.

but man, I also had a brain-fart yesterday after 30+ in a row games I play foefire, we are winning by a margin and the enemy makes an attempt to our lord, I rush in to help and say in team chat “lord safe” cause I couldn’t see anybody. ofc I was in the wrong lord area, I had completely lost navigation (thought I captured close but I had far). We won cause we were way ahead but still… and I have 1600+ games, not a vet, but not a PVE scrub either. It happens

Total games should not be calculated for match ups in ranked matchmaking. This results big game count players to suffer. I can’t be responsible for the games I played 3-4 years ago. My game count is too big, it’s like almost impossible to make my win ratio getting higher. This also means I will forever be stuck in %50 win ratio and getting matched with new to pvp or pve players who have the same amount of win ratio.
For example; I have 9k games in total, 4700 wins. This matchmaking system just considers my %50 win ratio and pairing me with a guy has just finished his 200th pvp game with 100 wins. So, it basically says both of us have %50 win ratio, so play together!
Solution: Hard MMR reset for all accounts. Its the only way out actually.

On the other hand, progress on new pvp rewards must be deleted from ranked arena. Or yeah, at least make them win dependant.

What’s the division you’re in?

I won 7/10 of this season’s placement matches and system puts me into Gold T3 with 1590 rating. Now I am about to fall from Gold due to losing streaks.
I lose like avaragely 14-15 rating per game on loss and gain avaragely 11 rating per win.

This pretty much summarizes it nicely.i don’t need players who have a massive win ratio.i just want them to know how to pvp.every match I spend all match telling people the same thing and it’s not fair.fight on point/don’t run into a 1v5 etc.i like these 3 points.but no1 is the most important for me.

But I also have a 50% win ratio and I worked my way to Platinum from Gold… soooo even if you’re forced to have a 50% win ratio you can still climb…. slowly

Dirame this is what i also said in other treads. If you are placed below your skill (which happens quite regular with the random placement matches) it determins how much games you need to get to your actual position. I can only recomend play placement in duo … I did it solo and went 6:4 and grind through silver … The system works but …

So you killed the lord on foefire early in the match? Strategically that seems like a bad ploy as you likely lost most of the caps. I usually don’t go lord unless my team has close to 350 pts. Definitely not at the start of a match.

It was sitiuational. Enemy team had locked us in all 3 points. We killed their lord just to split them from points, and that worked till our necro went full confused.

One thing I don’t like about the rating in this game is how new players are rated. You should start with the rating equivalent of a zero. I don’t have the data but it seems like to me based on experience that at least 50% of the players in the game are probably seen by the matcher as fairly equivalent in ability and fine to be thrown into a match together. That is ridiculous. I mean Im not complaining where I am which is gold tier 2 but I still get many teammates that dont know the basics. Im still trying to explain basic strategies and why obssessing over things like the mobs in Nifhel is bad almost every match. Im still losing matches in Foefire because my team worries about a lord rush and pulls everyone off points while we are winning 400-150 with multiple points capped. They dont understand that just give them the 150 points and keep the points and you will still win easily. Instead they rush to Lord and all the points get capped behind them by 1 or 2 and we actually lose some of those games. I feel like A-net still does a poor job of rating noobies compared to average and slightly above average players that have been playing for years.

Every other match i have at least 3 people capping empty close when match starts. At this point nothing surprises me, i kind of got the feeling the pvp pool of people got some kind of IQ reduction by 40, so i can’t get mad at mantally challenged individuals.

One day anet will catch on that they need to use the stats players earn to adjust mmr.

They have made it incredibly easy to do now at least, by showing how you compared to: the entire match, your team, and your team vs alive (not downed) enemies.

Now they just need to work out how to plug those numbers in, to influence skill rating rise/fall.

I don’t know; that’s kind of a tricky issue. The top stats thing can be misleading I think.

Let’s say your team sucks and you lose the match by quite a bit. But you got top stats on your team for kills. Your team sucked so bad and couldn’t kill anyone and you got the one kill the whole match so 100% of your team kills, you’re given top kills stat? But let’s be honest you only got one kill. How is that really all that good?

If you are able to kill only 1 enemy player team while all your teammates are getting wiped hard, then yeah that means you earned that top stat.

Also Considering wins/losses for matchmakings only is so 2013ish. We need some bright and fresh ideas such as considering top stats affect mmr as much as win ratio.

So, there are two good solution for the problems at the moment.
First; Hard MMR reset is a must.
Second, Make top stats directly connected to personal MMR.

Hope Anet won’t play ostrich man this time.

The problem here seems to be that they don’t have a proper system for analyzing the individual worth of each player on each team on a game by game basis. Neither do they have a good system for recognizing the key factors for victory or loss for any given game.

So they’re basically just tallying wins and losses and assuming that a win meant everyone on the winning team was better than everyone on the losing team and that’s it. This is leading to erroneous rankings which is leading to terrible matches.

I have about 6k games played (total), about exactly 55% win ratio in ranked, and none of the problems you mentioned. The system atm isn’t perfect (it’s to easy to get a top tier rating just through ~15 games and then sit there) but it’s far better than anything we’ve had in the seasons. People just go full emo when they get a crappy team or a loss streak once in a while. Your opponents get those teams too, you just don’t realize because you think it’s you and your superior skill carrying those games, it’s (usually) not. You get bad teammates sometimes, but they get fewer as you rise in Rating, get over it. Also avoid playing excessively on weekends.

Because that changes literally on a game by game basis. Sometimes I play worse and mess up a few times one game then the next make almost no mistakes. One game you could be thought of as a god the next ridiculed as if you just entered pvp. There’s no way to reliably tell.

This is different for literally every game as well. It could be a condition tick on Chieftain or a CC skill shoving someone off a point to decap at the last second. It starts getting really hairy really fast.

It’s like no one here understands the concept of Occam’s Razor and wants to add a truck load of statistics and factors that they think will work and be useful, on the surface, but do they ever wonder how well it’d work out in practice?

I’d just love to see all your faces when you get wildly erratic matches and mmr gains/losses with a system that uses a million variables that try to do it all and keep track of everything at once. Guess what, ANet has admitted to doing that, and guess what, they admitted it doesn’t work.

Yes.

I’ve been plaing PvP regularly during the last 3.5 years, doing daylies, sometimes playing more, sometimes less. I have something around 4k matches played and a wlr slightly below 50%. I play for the fun of it, the AP and the rewards I get from it.

I’m an average player, sure. I play classes only for the AP/rewards/titles, even if I’m not overly skilled using them, sure. But I know a thing or two about PvP, things you can’t know when you’re taking your first steps into the mode. I took those steps in Hotjoin, then moved on to unranked, because there were more AP/rewards in it and I felt I could carry my weight.

I sticked to unranked, until the seasons started. Since S2, skipped S1 for Fractals and HoT mostly, I played ranked during the seasons, got the backpiece and lots of AP on the way…good times. Matchmaking was ok, the pips became frustrating though when I reached my skillcap, you know, the point when you win-lose-win-lose constantly.

As much as I enjoy getting asceded rewards for mere participation, I think it gives the wrong incentive. If rewards were win based, it would encourage players to get better. As it is today, it encourages you to be there, that’s all. I know I want to carry my own weight, but I also know I don’t actually have to.
Sure, getting that sweet ascended loot takes three times as long if you gather pips with losses, but then again it also gives you time to watch a movie, check your social media or fill out tax forms…

The issue isn’t whether the player earned the top stat or not. You’re missing the point completely. I’m saying that top stat is essentially a flawed and meaningless tool for measuring individual skill. It is a team-based game and as much as I’d also enjoy my top stats to increase my MMR (especially in matches where I get almost all the top stats of my team), I also recognize that a team can snowball another team pretty hard in GW2 which ends up making stats wholly dependent upon team play rather than individual play. The stats are really only there to show you what your contribution to your team was (i.e. 1 kill). They say nothing about your individual skill against the other team.
