Mesmers have PU for stealth and more stealth.
Thieves now have Daredevils for dodge (triple bar endurance) = leap for more stealth and more stealth on DP builds, more stealth available on SP and PP builds.

Do we need more stealth and more stealth?

s/p and p/p absolutely needed more stealth. DD stealth uptime will be better than the current meta d/p but it will still be nowhere near mesmer.

Yah, seems fine.

Also that is such a bad name. Thief seems completely disconnected from its specialization. It is a Monk or Martial Arts fighter, but they just call it something completely different and unrelated.

Predictable “The sky is falling because I’ve lumped up every possible advantage a profession can have into one imaginary spec” arguments.

You can technically get stealth in builds like S/P with the dodge trait, but you won’t see tons of evades in this since dodges will be burnt just for stealth, rather than for evasion.

Meanwhile, the new staff weapon involves almost no stealth and will only stealth if you bring a different secondary weapon or a non-physical utility.

You still won’t see any thief build stealth as much as a D/P or D/D thief, even with S/P thieves able to stealth, so really you’re going to be less likely to encounter a thief stealthing after a patch, even though there will be more builds that are technically capable of stealth.

Honestly, the stealth options for Daredevil don’t worry me. They’re giving up dodges if they’re using the extra leap finisher to stealth.

you won’t be seeing any staff thieves in pvp

new spec is different story though, i think sd trickery/acro/dd might be a thing
no change for dagger builds though due to low synergy

It honestly sounds neat on paper and I can’t wait for the PoI tomorrow. I am a bit concerned about how other weapons will interact with the traits and abilities though. Especially Pistol Thieves who already have very lopsided coefficients on their pistol attacks.

Here is what a lot of you do not understand. A thief will need to give up a trait line to get daredevil. What will they give up?

Shadow Arts? No heal or condi clear on stealth? Great!
Deadly Arts? No panic strike, improvision? Great!
Trickery? No extra initiative or steal buffs? Great!

Sure, more evades, but the person will need to give up a lot also.
