I may might have got what OP is trying to say:

First, the signet issue. Signets have two different states, one passive and one when you activate it. In passive mode, you have the signet effect at constant time, no needing to do anything to proc it. However, once you “activate” your signet (pressing the button) the passive effect no longer works. Example:

- Signet of Renewal
. Passive effect – Cure a condition every ten seconds.
. Active effect – Pulls conditions from nearby allies into your pet

Now, analysing the duel between you and the thief, I’d recommend not activating this signet. Why is that? Simple, activate state takes 60 seconds to recharge, making it useless against a thief applying bleeds (but fantastic when you have 50 conditions on you). In the same amount of time, you could have cleaned the bleed stacks 6x,with the passive effect.

Now the fighting issue. Judging from your post, I’d assume that the thief is running a Caltrops build. What it does? Caltrops is an aoe that causes bleeding and cripple, at the same time. How to avoid it? The animation is pretty visible (caltrops all over the area), so you just need to get out of it.
Then we have Death Blossom, 3 stacks of bleed + invunerability. How to avoid it? Stay away from the thief and keep kitting him. This attack has a very low range and it’s very expensive if missed, so make him regret for his mistake.
However, if he manages to get those bleed stacks on you, don’t remove right away. Bleeding, despite being powerful, won’t kill you in only one combo from the thief. So be patient, at let those stacks on you. Just remove then when you have 8+ stacks or when you are losing hp pretty kitten fast.

I run Empathic Bond and Signet of Renewal at the same time on my ranger. It takes a buttload of conditions to completely overwhelm me, and most single characters are not capable of that if I also focus my efforts on avoiding the skills that apply the bulk of their conditions.

Edit: I do understand that this should not be necessary; burning a grandmaster trait and a utility just to get condition removal that is still not as good as most of the other professions. However, I can definitely attest to the power of the combination if you play well and control the amount of incoming conditions to the best of your ability.

If I’m understanding correctly, I’m fairly certain Atheria isn’t talking about “dodge” (as in dodge rolling) at all, but rather using it as a poorly chosen synonym for “avoid.”

But what’s actually happening here is likely that bleeds are being reapplied. Most likely, Atheria is standing in caltrops, so cleansing the bleeds does nothing because new bleeds are continuously being applied. Also, I’m not a ranger and am uncertain how exactly “Healing Spring” removes conditions (wiki article doesn’t help either) does it remove all conditions or just a certain number of them? You can see in the images that the OP is also burning in one and poisoned in the other. If bleeds were applied by caltrops she’d also be crippled. So there are other conditions at play here.

You have a trait to remove conditions, a signet, a pet skill, and you can drop your spring and use axe 5. The options are there, talk to some rangers and learn.

Conditions can be difficult to understand and counter at first. The “death breakdown” you get after you die will be especially discouraging, because if you have 15 stacks of bleeding on you, each one will count as a “hit” every second.

In other words, with 15 bleeds on you the “death breakdown” will show that you got hit 75 times in 5 seconds, because that’s how the counter works. It’s understandable to be discouraged after seeing you received “75 hits” from something.

Most enemies in PvE do not use conditions at all, so it’s even more surprising to jump into PvP and see them stack up on you.

Especially now that tournament players just hop into hotjoins for a couple of minutes between rounds, there is no comfortable place to start PvPing. That’s the mechanic that needs to be fixed—the OP could very well be playing against people who have already spent 500 hours in PvP.

This isn’t just a learning curve—I don’t know/understand very many boxing techniques, for example, but I’m intelligent enough to figure them out. Currently, a new player trying PvP is like me going into a ring with world-champion heavyweights, and seeing if I can “figure it out.” Maybe I’m smart enough to figure it out, but I won’t because half of my teeth are on the floor and I have a concussion. I’m going to leave the ring and never come back. Goodbye, PvP population.

I admire a few of the noble and patient souls here.

“If my healing spring is working why aren’t others and myself being “cured” of conditions, why do they continue to “stack” rather than “heal”?”

There are builds where thieves can apply stacks of bleeding quickly, and it is possible that they are “stacking” much faster than you are “healing”.

+1! I almost got a brain aneurysm after the first posts. Gold star you Aragiel and co that can keep calm for long enough to post a civil reply to this guy.

It will most likely be voted the most pointless but still funny/infuriating post of 2012 though

Dodge conditions..rofl!

Rangers have one of the most anti-condi builds with their “pet taking conditions” trait (triggers like every 10s, pets hardly die if you keep switching them) and Healing Spring which last for like 12s and removes 1 condi every 2-3s. If you cannot kill bleed thieves 1v1 then I’m sorry to say so but that’s a huge l2p issue.
Me and my friends tested caltrops bleed thief 1v1, never won against the other player. You can easily dodge Death Blossom and Caltrops and live.

I feel like this whole thread is an elaborate ploy to get people infractions, and judging on a moderators post in the thread telling people to avoid personal attacks I think the OP has been quite successful.

Rangers have one of the most anti-condi builds

No, lol.

Rangers have some of the worst condition removal in the game, which is what the OP is actually complaining about, not dodges. Couple things:

  • Healing Spring removes a single condition on cast. The regeneration lasts 12 seconds, not the condi removal.
  • Signet of Renewal removes a condition every 10 seconds, but only if your pet is alive, and only if it’s within 600 range of you, and only if you haven’t used the Signet active ability.
  • Signet of Renewal’s active only works if your pet is alive, and within 600 range of you, and is on a 60 second cooldown.
  • Empathic Bond requires a 30 point investment for a trait that removes one condition every 10 seconds, and requires that your pet is alive and in range. Compare that to Guardian’s 10 point trait that does the exact same thing and doesn’t require a pet.

Ranger hardly has any condition removal, and the removal it has is incredibly unreliable and on a long cooldown.

To the OP: the reason people keep telling you to play a Warrior is because Rangers are simply not up to par in sPvP. You are right to be frustrated, because Ranger is the worst PvP class in the game right now. You can make it work if you really want to, but you’ll be working harder to succeed than if you play a different class.
