Elementalist teleport exploit
Does it REALLY matter? An Ele coming to kill your Treb, if they know what they are doing, will ignore you and kill your treb with AoEs. I do this alllllll the time. The only thing that stops me is 1-2 more defenders, and sometimes I can ignore them due to their badness. LOSing with the treb while killing it makes it easy.
Not sure if there’s necessarily a problem with this, as many classes can do it. Guardians are another good one to send at a Treb as they are tanky enough to ignore the user while killing it.
Does it really matter?
I dont know. I think is an exploit. If Anet thinks the same they’ll fix it. If not they’ll ignore it.
With Ride the Lightning?
If its with Ride the Lightning, the its fine in imo, one of the cool things about mobility in the game, chances are he would get there almost as fast going the normal way round.
Mesmers can do it as well, and thieves. Imagine that. How about we take away your portal, then you can take away flashes ability to get us straight up.
Many people consider mesmer portal a exploit, me too.
In battle of Kyhlo the elementalist can jump directly on the trebu from one of the roofs. If it’s intended I find really stupid that the best tank with the best mobility and the best aoe damage is able to do it.
Paid tournaments will become the exploit fest.
Please PM me the build that makes an elementalist the best tank.
thanks
My problem is that A.Net specifically stated that the ability to span gaps like that is an exploit. A Mesmer using blink to do it…exploit, ..ele to do it with Ride the lightning, exploit, an engineer to do it (dunno what kill it was, but saw one do it in Forests of Nifehl…Thieves doing it with sb 5*….these are not supposed to ‘clear gaps’ but they can be used as blink abilities, or faster travel, but not to be used to span distances you can’t make on your own with a jump.
This would indeed be exploiting (or voluntarily bypassing set game mechanics).

Ride the lightning isn’t a blink. Lightning flash is.

Spanning gaps is not an exploit, and I would challenge you to show where Anet specifically stated that it is.
Teleports and shadowsteps have a specific path detection mechanic to determine if your target is accessible. This has been described as a “walkable path” meaning if you could walk from where you are to the destination, then you can teleport. The walkable path CAN allow for walking off ledges. The paths that are not possible are those which require you to jump. Since a player can easily walk off the wall and over to the treb the path is legal. There is also a maximum distance for the path, which is why some teleports that look like they should work don’t.
This is really easy to test. Just stand on a crate, or table or whatever and try to teleport off, then try to teleport back on. It will only work one way. You can walk off the table, but you can’t walk onto it without jumping.

i really need to know this because o.w every thief in the game should be banned. there are a lot of known “teleport” in every stream you see. anet didn’t do anything about it. seems right so.
@eatthisshoe
That in essence is what I meant. If the ‘gap’ requires a jump between two starting and ending points, then a blink, teleport (minus portal, that runs off a different mechanic) and other such things is NOT allowed to clear this distance. Yet I have seen many a people abuse this. I, myself, could not get it to work for me the way they do, and I have given up. I know (and yes I read it by a DEV, but I’m sure it was during teh BWE’s so I can’t get that info even if I wanted to) that the DEV’s had said that using abilities to clear gaps (and by gaps I mean distances you could not clear yourself even with a jump(even if your ability can clear that distance).
This was supposed to stop people from porting up on castle walls I guess in WvW and prevent people from making impossible jumps and trivializing jumping puzzles or something. I know I can’t use blink to jump to a higher pedestal in jumping puzzles, yet I have seen thieves use teh shortbow 5 skill to go from the bottom of the treb towers to the top, and then (as explained awhile back) keep using the dagger(sword) skill to make a permanent place to warp back to.
The sword (dagger??) skill is acceptable…yes, but you can’t even have LoS to make a port from down there to up to the top, yet I see thieves do it in tPvP all the time. I know that they are using what they have, but it just seems off.

Oh dear.
OP, if you really think the ele is the best tank with the best mobility and the best aoe damage. Let alone you imply they can do this at the same time.
Tank = (generally staff) water+arcane. 0 dps. Still not as good as guardians or engis.
AoE = (staff) Fire arcane. 0 survivability. Debatably not as good as Engis or same warrior specs.
Mobility = D/D Air arcane. Still not as good as thief.

what if i say you you can be tanky/dps with sceptre/dagger ele?

Avoiding profession considerations. What I want to know is if all that map “shortcuts” are known by Anet and if they think is legit to use them.
As far as I know competitive maps tend to be symmetrical, and designers just try to hide that fact in order to make the map more fancy.
I still remember Counter Strike, when players started with “bunny jump” (very large jumps). Every player was able to do it, but game designers thought that it was an exploit.
So here is the question, I know I can roll one of that classes and do it, but does it help to game experience?
Do I have to learn and use this “tricks” if I want to be competitive?
my favorite is getting people to chase me (which always happens since half of you came from WoW) and then using lightning flash to jump up to the rafters on Khylo and then ride the lightning while jumping off the other side. so I can pretty much go from 1 courtyard in front of the treb, over to the other starting base with 2 cooldowns!

That is a great tanky build, but its DPS is actually quite low. I was using something very similar about a week and a half after release.
Clerics+Dwaynas+water/life+ 20 earth/20water/30 arcana is not a dps build. its not even close, even with CE on dodge.
It can outlast an enemy, that is for kitten sure. (and thats why you need skill) But dont be confusing it for a DPS build, since A -675 power before you try and stack might (which is easy btw with that build :p). I run with almost twice that, and can still hold a solid 15-20 might stacks if i time myself right.
B – 0 crit dmg/0precison. Yes its not a crit build, thats fine. But if you want to have any semblance of ‘DPS’, crit dmg is awesome.
C – 14,000 health and ~800 armor. Decent armor value. Awful health value. Guardian tanks have more of both, and not by a small margin.
Now im not downplaying that built at all. its great, but its not what you claim, and seeing some guy 4v1 in wvw means next to nothing. firstly, its wvw, meaning automatically its imbalanced. Secondly, while they are 80 they are without a doubt masterwork or at best semi-rare geared. This actually means they’ll probably have LOWER stats than people who get buffed up and are sub 80. Now thats just my assumption from their terrible damage. Moreover, they played terribly, thats a given.
Have you seen this build 4v1 in spvp? no.
Ill close by saying i dont think we’re that UP. We have some bugged skills and some bad traits, but overall we’re actually pretty okay.
But lets not pretend that we’re actually top of the dog pile when we arent.
