For what it’s worth, Ferox was right. You can be the best DPS in the world, but if your team isn’t peeling for you, or putting out enough pressure to down another target, your going to just get trashed, or be unable to safely burst a target. It’s always easy to blame the DPS when kitten doesn’t get done.

It wasn’t possible for us to protect him better.

I listened to the entire VoD, I think this might be an opportune moment to mention that I will be enforcing the Guild Wars 2 Code of Conduct for the World Tournament Series at my own discretion, including punishments that can result in a player or entire team being ineligible to participate in a single or multiple World Tournament Series Events.

If you know who I am or how I’ve gotten to where I am today, you’ll know that I’m very passionate about Guild Wars 2 PvP, and I’m excited to finally be in a position to help drive a project like the World Tournament Series forward. Having been on both sides of the player/dev fence, I know that what we’re trying to do with the WTS is going to be a communal effort – meaning I’ll need your help just as much as you’ll need mine.

The first part of moving this project forward is to start treating your fellow teammates, competitors, and players with the respect they deserve. The World Tournament Series and all the associated events should be an exercise in community building and education, with new and veteran players alike getting interested, whether they’re participating or not. Players in the WTS effectively represent Guild Wars 2 as a whole, and toxicity will not be allowed to be a part of that.

So please, take this as a friendly reminder – you should always treat your fellow players in a decent manner, and in accordance with the Guild Wars 2 User Agreement and Code of Conduct. If you’re planning on playing competitively in the WTS, community events, or otherwise, you will be under additional scrutiny.

We will be releasing legal documentation on the World Tournament Series in the coming weeks, but if you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to contact me or create a thread on these forums.

Thanks!

So what about “known” players going off the deep end and being completely racist kittens? The player I have in mind served no suspension even when mass reported, and has been in multiple tournaments of yours.

So you are going to ban a player/team from competing b/c they talk trash?

You can’t police chat between team members in the voice coms. So this must be typed text between the 2 teams.

Sorry but trash talking is a part of every competitive sport.

Getting into the other teams head is a viable and legit tactic that has been used for ages.

So i have to say I respectfully disagree and personally think you are making a terrible mistake.

Sorry but trash talking is a part of every competitive sport.

Really? I’ve yet to see Roger Federer slagging off Rafael Nadal in the middle of a tennis match. Or Tiger Woods calling James McElroy’s mom a “kitten” during a tee-off. Even for direct competitive sports like boxing or MMA, there’s still a certain respect and decorum that exists, and should exist, between the contenders.

As I’ve said elsewhere, maybe games like League of Legends or Call of Duty may have players insulting the skritt out of each other during the match, but I personally approve of ANet trying to cultivate a better class of player for their PvP scene.

While GW2 PvP is a sport for real men who trash talk and swear and eventually end up shedding each other’s blood, right?

Starcraft 2 in the World and especially in Korea has a strict set of rules for talking to your enemies and for everything that is visible or audible to spectators of a match. The same goes for Dota as far as I know (I chose these examples, because I have been following competitive scene there for a while now, so I at least know what I’m talking about).

Most tournaments in SC2 don’t allow you to write anything but a variation of “gl hf” and “gg” during the entirety of a match. I would like to see that kind of enforced sportsmanship in GW2, but that’s me and my opinion and not everybody might like it. I’d like Anet to enforce strict rules like these at least for the events they have a say in.

Trash talking has nothing to do the lack of changes in PvP. Your post is pretty much not related to the topic at hand. There are a lot of topics that will best serve you, this is not one of them.

Harassing players happens in every competitive environment even those that get updates, so you really don’t have a point.

A real player would respect his team and his opponents. Sure its easy to mock others and try to discourage them but it takes a real skill for some one help and work with their team or be a team player. a good player would finish and leave the game and earn both his team and opponents respect. Kids trash talk so they can look “cool”, or show poor ability to let their steam off. a good players doesn’t need trash talk, they would come defeat their opponent and leave. and if they lose, they will accept it as part of the game and work on themselves to make better. Rather the raging and pointing fingers, because you will never progress if you do that. And please don’t take your life morality from professional athletes like Mike Tyson or others. Just because they are in professional sports doesn’t mean anything. These men go home, beat up their wives and think they are real men. If you learning lesson from them, then you looking into wrong place.

I think what ANet doing is good. toxic community what would destroy the community, hence its called toxic. And than people question why there aren’t so many people playing pvp or the pvp is dying. I seen many people leave their server and join another world for WvW because they don’t like the discouraging community they have in their world. And guess what happens when other players leave that part of the game, it affects you and all of us. next thing you know, you have no one left to play with.

And if some one arguing with you, just ignore or block. Because that argument will not go anywhere; “it takes least two idiots to argue”.

Pfft. If you want to go down that route, I could claim that football and hockey aren’t REAL sports. “Oh, they’re just poorly disguised excuses for low-brow, unintelligent people who want to see blood and violence, the same sort of audience that went to see Roman gladiatorial fights. Or public executions.”

Now, is Tiger Woods an upstanding citizen? No. But I DID respect him as a sportsman, where his conduct has always been exemplary. There was a reason why I didn’t use Mike Tyson as an example either; he’s not what I would consider a good sportsman. To give him credit though, he’s made an effort to clean up his act in later years, and I respect him for that.

EDIT: @Brunners: Whoops! Yeah, I did mean Rory McIlroy. I don’t know how I came up with James in my head. >.<
