I Am NeXeD awful d/D ele NA
(edited by NeXeD.3042)
Oh so you’re resorting to questioning my skill are you now? You have no idea how lucky you are that you’re on NA.. I have probably played every common and less common build in existence on all classes for multiple hours. What do I destroy the most with? The three celestials and the common zerker builds (shatter mes, medi guard, thief). Yes OFC you can play them skillfully but the problem is you can still play them badly and get away with it. The difference between a shoutbow who can properly use his intelligence sigil and one who can’t is minimal. But the difference between a scepter dagger fresh air ele who can pull off a full, proper rotation and one who can’t even tell when his air is off cooldown is MASSIVE. One will one shot, one will get oneshotted. If you really think you are a good player cos u can weapon swap on cheese bow before your bow 3 hits I feel sorry for you. Anyway I knew I was derailing this thread a bit but this has gone way too far and I need to sleep. Have fun indoctrinated meta worshipper cheeseplays!
I can play on eu.
Great counter to my argument there… Cos I totally wanna see how amazing you are at celestial ele.
But if you insist… Where and when?
I could use an ele but I prefer my necro
Didnt really see the point in counter pointing you’d probably never stop.

i think a skilled theif has the upper hand vs medi guards at least in a 1 vs 1 fight

Thieves have the upper hand in most 1v1 fights. They’re practically 1v1 kings but a poor class in zergs. That is, in comparison to guard, ele, & war.
It’s why a lot of people think thieves are terrible in everything except backcapping and causing a +1.
Erm I eat meta builds for breakfast on a regular basis it’s just it gets boring after a while cos once I beat them once in a match they all start running away from me unless it’s 2v1 or greater, fgs such skill yea. Keep telling yourselves ur good players not at all being carried by passive easy to play builds.
Oh for Narnia’s sake man!
The OP going to start with a metabattle build then s/he is likely to realise that the beat from an anti-meta build is inevitable. So s/he is likely to start an anti-meta build like you did. So s/he is going to follow YOUR build which is an anti-meta build.
The fact that your build is made to beat meta-builds does not reduces their impact. You did a great job realising how to beat a meta build! Hands down!
But your anti-meta build is also a meta-meta-build
(if I write the word “meta” one more times my head going to explode!)
And if your build is made specifically to beat meta builds you have no right to call yourself any better since you abuse the weakness of the other builds you know well. You are built to expose the weaknesses of any metabattle build.
Sounds even for me…
Saiyan: ofc the thief has an upper hand except the guardian is fighting for or on a point. The best thing they can do: get in let the guardian waste some CD and retreat. Get back in about 15 seconds. That means full ini for the thief and at least one wasted CD like Hammer4 or 5 or scepter 5 for the guardian. In this situation the thief wins. If some reinforcement arrives… This is a 2v1 already
The guardian is really weak against poke(fake) attacks since they usually burn all their abilities trying to kill their enemies.

This "meta"’ word is slightly overused I feel :P People don’t really know what it means anymore.
1st of all – if there would be an “anti-meta”, then that would be meta and top players would have figured it out long before anyone on this forum.
2nd – not every build on metabattle is a “meta build” – only builds that are actually labeled as meta are parts of the current metagame, which is a very small portion of builds. The rest is simply viable.
3rd – c’mon, there is no way he found a build that can beat basically nearly every viable build in the game and it remains unknown.
4th – shadaux, if despite all the odds what you say is true, why don’t you sign up for weekly cups and win money with it?

What people like shadaux want is for the Easter Bunny to be real. They want this thing they call balance which I am guessing means that every class is just as effective at everything as every other class and diversity which I guess means just being able to click buttons at random and do as good as any other random clicking of buttons. I’m not sure what these kind of people call perfect balance exists because there as certainly never been an MMORPG where people haven’t complained about lack of balance. The only way to have that is to have one class with all the same stats and doesn’t allow for any build changes and that would mean perfect balance but then there would be no diversity and people would complain about that. Basically they want fairy tales to be real.
Witcher: I do not want to be a troll but I call anti-meta build that if someone modifies his build to be effective against a very likely enemy. Like taking Wall of Reflection or Sword against a double ranger team. You only GUESS if they are LB or not. But since LB-GS is the meta ranger build your chances are high to destroy them. If the two rangers are spirit and sword-torch you are screwed
I modify my build every single match depending on my and the enemy’s team composition… As I said a sword, an ice bow or a doom sigil does make a difference.
So my build would be considered anti-meta in that particular situation and team setup meanwhile it would be a piece of poop in any other scenario.
I never heard somebody complaining about my WoR against a double ranger team… Or about my IceBow when our team had two thiefs. Or my Mesmer having Portal.
I’m pretty sure you understand my point.
These builds are not meta builds they are suboptimal but I as a player felt and feel that in that situation these builds help me to achieve my goal easier.
And to be sure: I’m not against the metabattle if you feel so. I think everybody should (or even must) follow it, check it or adapt for it for a certain time. And then use the most effective build compositor… The brain!
EDIT: after reading this again I realised it sounds like I wanna be a unique snowflake…
Not. I just think that making some loose-and-gain decision does improve my chance to win.

Ah I see. Well the expression you are looking for is “counter comping” not being “anti meta” :P
You can’t “verse” someone. Versus is not the plural of verse, it’s the entire word and it means “against”. Drives me over the kittening edge when people say “_ verse _”. That’s not a word! World VERSUS World.
Why do some people think they weren’t carried by their build? Everyone is. It’s the build that gives us the stats and skills to win. Shoutbow is carried by shouts and cele, as is the thief by teleports and zerker.
It’s no shame to admit builds are important to play, but don’t forget it goes for everyone.
Wow, I’m surprised a newbie thread will get a red post.
Anyway, it is natural to find those obstacles as a new player because this game is quite old, and many people have play quite a long time by now, so don’t expect easy matches.
DID SOMEONE FROM ANET JUST RECCOMEND METABATTLE?!
Jebus digging your own grave just wasn’t enough? Have to buy the coffin jump in it and scoot your way into the grave like a canoe too rofl.
You know they mentioned Mettabattle on the sPvP livestreams too?
Hi my name is Harley i have been playing gw2 for about….2-3 months i think and ive found 99% of this game extremely enjoyable the devs did a amazing job in my honest opinion its one of the best games of its kind… however when trying pvp i found a lack of balance for example… Guardian, ranger and warrior classes i have noticed when versing these they almost seem impossible to kill on a 1v1… warrior super tanky cant scratch them, guardian just heals to full as soon as they get low giving a super unfair advantage over others… ranger.. i dont know exactly why maybe its the first few hits they get or something but imo they seem overpowered even when using melee…. so that leaves a couple of really under powered classes left that just get destroyed completely from this making pvp not really fun for these classes. This is in no way a hate speech or a troll post its just how i feel about this area in the game and i hope they balance pvp at some stage to make it a little more fair until then i will stick to the story and farming goods…i cant wait for the new expansion >.< come on!… ok thats enough from me thankyou for your time please let me know what others feel about it.
You can kill them as a thief, but it’s haaaard! My thief is my favorite character, first character and only one so far I have champion status with. If you have build questions or anything of the like feel free to PM me It’s a lot about knowing your enemies rotations and avoiding their aoe rings, knowing when to dip out and back in, etc. Ranger is my favorite to kill, love stealing that healing tree and stacking it with Shadow Refuge and Dagger Storm =) If they pull out the sword though, ya gotta move!
That topic should be mentioned here because that’s why I think it’s unbeleivable that a dev would endorse metabattle…
It’s not just used by beginners. The vast majority run exact copies of those builds and destroy diversity, it is killing the game and will continue to do so until there are just 5 viable lumps of cheese any skill level can play with ease, and it seems anet are fine with this.
No, the fact people want to use effective builds doesn’t destroy the game. It’s actually good that a new person is interested in what it’s good to play and he doesn’t quit because he usess a bad build, but rather stick around and learns.
What destroy the game is the fact that there are very little effective builds for each class. You will have no diversity if things stays like this and honestly why should anyone bother playing something that’s just bad? For the sake of diversity? Yeah, I don’t think so.
There is nothing wrong to suggest Metabattle newer people will appreciate, this gesture so they can begin to learn a good build.
It also does not mean its the only build. I always say "start out with Metabattle then once you understand, pvp and your own preferences strengths, and how you can effectively play the class, tweak the build to suit you.
