I’m still struggling in t3 Sapphire where I’ve been for a couple of weeks now, trying to get my profession achieves.

I’n this 14 hour + session I’ve been matched twice ( in Sapphire ) with players displaying Team PZ guild. This most recent match was 500-36. The first was 501-110.

The matchmaking is making this miserable as it is.. I’m taking losses of 300+ points regularly. May I politely request that the Legendary and Diamonds stay out of the lower ranks?

In the first picture the PZ member is the Emerald Engie partied up to get into Sapphire. 8 or 9 hours later, in the second pic they’ve breezed through to Sapphire, on my back.

Note the time and the score in the second picture. This is “fun” and “Competitive?”

they are not trolling, i think they just want to play but the Q times in legendary is very long given that most players like me stop playing once we hit legendary.

This season isn’t designed to be fun. It’s designed to allow the better players to rise to the top faster. Matchmaking intentionally matches people with teammates of their own skill level, but the other team could be of ANY skill level.

Couple that with achievements that provide incentives for struggling players to keep queuing for ranked, and you have a recipe for lopsided matches.

exactly the same mate have just been farmed twice by pro team masquerading in sapphire on alts as well because they cant play in there own division probably from long queue times . I’m stuck in MMRHell like you lost count of my losing streaks long time ago I wont give up either but know its all in vain and this farming of lower level players is the normal now – at least it gives the pro’s something to do!

question was not meant for you, but thats good it sounds like you have a competitive spirit. Also i highly doubt all of your games are like that. Mine were like that until i got to upper sapphire and they started getting a little bit closer… but if im constantly able to 2v1 indefinitely the other team should have no chance. I expect my scores will become better in high ruby and diamond.

4th tier of sapphire 2 weeks now and unfortunately most are blow outs at least they were just the extreme – my teams rarely get over 400 and most are below 300

He/She stated the reason, is because they want the Legendary Backpack. This is why I think the backpack has caused a huge problem. People that don’t like PvP, are forcing themselves to play a mode they hate, just to get the backpack.

I enjoy all the modes (well, WvW is dead so I can’t really play it, on my server at least), and I don’t care about the backpack, so I’ve been playing Ranked very casually (I’m about 2 pips away from Sapphire). It’s unfortunate that all the backpack has done, is made people that didn’t have an interest in PvP, hate it even more.

Well, the issue is that once someone hits legendary, there isn’t a lot of fun in playing that anymore. It’s not like anyone looks at the leaderboard and says “oh wow, those are the best players in the game” The best players are in the pro league.

So, that returns to the key point. After legendary, why not start over on another account?

To answer the questions; I know it was a pro team because they displayed there team.

As to why I keep coming back, I love a challenge and I love to compete. Yes, I’m also going ranked because I want the backpack. What I need is something resembling a fair chance though.

To compete is fun, to re-enannact Massada multiple times a night gets old fast.

I was looking at a team I just lost a match to: My whole party were sapphires and this team we lost to were 3 rubies and 2 sapphires. This is exactly what I don’t want, a matchmaking queue that puts rubies and sapphires together/against each other.

But if there aren’t enough sapphires to queue, then where else we get opponents?

Losing is bad enough. When you lose to higher tier team though, there is an unsavoriness to losing pips against higher ranked players. I know you have to lose your pips when you lose … but there is additional penalty to being queued against higher ranked teams besides just losing a pip.

Back for more after some sleep. Here’s my most recent match. I wonder if this is what is meant by “competitive” and “fun?” Needless to say, I was on the Red side.

How is it fun to endure long loss streaks? How is it fun to constantly get close to moving up a tier only to have the matchmaking ruin it for you and have a long loss streak undoing all your work? It’s crazy how much the leagues are pretty much just destroying interest in PvP. I’ve not had a losing streak, as I don’t play the game that much to have been in one. When I play PvP, I’ll play until a loss, then I’ll stop. However, no one likes losing. It’s not fun to always lose and it really does just make people stop playing, because, well who wouldn’t if they’re not having fun.

I think it’s to do with how PvP has been designed in GW2. By that I mean the game has been designed around small scale 5v5 battles. That coupled with the MM, puts players in the situations we keep seeing. Players at the lower end, getting steamrolled by the experienced ones.

I think it’s clear that the reason people end up going against players of a vastly higher skill, is because there aren’t enough people playing PvP at that time, to be put against you that are around your skill level.

Obviously the class imbalance doesen’t help much either, especially with Elite Specs being way more powerful than F2P. I honestly can’t see the PvP in the game being more enjoyable for the people that have come to dislike it. I can understand it, as I too have those days where I just think “This really isn’t fun, getting wipped out, not being able to put up a fight.”. If just one person on your team decides to go AFK, your whole team suffers and you’ll most likely lose.

I think the PvP would just need an complete overhaul. Conquest has a steep learning curve too, so it’s not exactly the easiest PvP game type to just jump into and start “being good” at. A lot of players seem to be lone wolves in the game too, which doesen’t work well in a team based mode.

The last screen shot looks pretty normal to me. The blue party had 2 emerald ranks and 3 sapphires, your party had 4 sapphires and 1 emerald.

I can’t see what profession the 2 individuals were that were disconnected from the match were, but their team was well balanced. They had a couple power players, a good condi player and likely an auramancer. They likely outperformed your party.

I know losing is hell, even by a big gap in score like that. But … it’s happened to me a couple of times. I’ve been so “outmatched” by the other team that I’ve suffered a score under 100 to their 500+ score.

Sometimes that happens. It shouldn’t happen every time, not even most of the time, but it can and will happen once in a while.

This +1 – interesting that anet made the changes for S2 matchmaking to allow the expert pro players to get to their right place and compete properly against each other quicker (that was presumably what they wanted!)- but instead they now prefer alts and demolishing the lower players, the exact opposite now – role reversal – and in fact for whatever reason it does not seem they want to stay in their right place! instead make it miserable for the lower tier players just for ? kicks or whatever.

I would like it to be fun – and I keep trying but eventually the endless losing streaks make this impossible without any hope of escape.

been stuck for 2 weeks keep getting close one or two pips then ruined I cant seem to string more than 2-3 wins together and that demoralizes you day in day out

Most of mine are blow outs now as MMR tanked – used to it though by now – does not affect me anymore – marked sense of apathy has overtaken me now and I consider it the norm!

Yeah, that’s the point. It can be clearly seen that skillwise those two teams were very, very far from each other. No reasonable matchmaking system should ever allow them to meet.

agree +1 most of my matches are complete blow outs and mis matches

People have this issue in ruby and diamond too, even in legendary. When I was ruby I played with 4 sapphire against 3 ruby 2 sapphire, when I was ruby tier 5-6 I played with 3 ruby 1 diamond, against 3 diamond 2 ruby, when I was diamond I played with 2 diamond 3 ruby, against 4 diamond 1 ruby, when I was diamond tier 6-7 I played against 2-3 legendary, my hole team diamond…
How I won and got Legendary
- 75% solo ,25% duo-trio, when I had a winning strike I played, when I lost 2 times in a row, stopped playing for 3-4 hours, to not get the same team/opposite team.
- played ele and reaper from ruby mainly, with ele I carried the hole team
- I believed in my self, that I’m good, and that I can carry

And yes, I’m a toxic player, who is trash I write it down, so many ppl don’t like me, but before I write it down, I really ask the team mates what to do, where to go, they don’t do it, many times, and because of that we loose points; and sometimes we loose because of that trash player… I really don’t mind to write things down, I feel better that way… and note this, this trash players are still in ruby or max diamond, and never gonna make it to legendary, because I will play against them! I will not let trash player get to legendary, there are enough legendary players who are still trash….

If you are representative of the legendary division (and I suspect you are) – I would not touch it with a bargepole and thank my lucky stars never to end up there

There are so many variants to unique individual players on the human level that computer science can’t predict or recreate. They can work with “results” and go from there, but that’s after all the actions that brought about the result have occurred.

Human beings adapt/react instinctively. You can write a program to predict what might be considered a “proper human instinctive reaction” to such and such stimulus but never be able to properly account for any and all circumstances that might trigger one response or another from the player.

If any program developer can do it, they’d be God … maybe.

I agree. The devs seem convinced that players don’t “earn” wins if the matchmaker is set up for 50/50 win ratio. That may not be true, but it’s the impression I get.

If it is true, I don’t understand the reasoning. At any rate, the previous system worked and the current system does not.

The taking a break part is so stupidly important. It’s not just that you get stuck in and against the same teams but losing, for most people, puts them on tilt. Taking a break and resetting really does help a lot.

You need to stop worrying about the system….and start to think about how to get out of the mess by carrying.

Im not saying MMR hell isnt there…..but there are ways to get out. Ppl at amber -> diamond arent that good in most cases so steamrolling them with (condi) burst builds is a very valid option and can turn games that seem unwinnable around. U just need to think outside the box and play super offensive builds.

I can literally grab a f2p account. Play a zerker amu + wells pre hot necro build and go without losses to sapphire since ppl will just stand, try to ress or stomp on top of wells. U can literally kill entire teams like that in the first 3 divisions.

Yes its hard….hard to drop wells on the floor. You dont have to be remotely good to do that -_-

Its not rare that im doing 1 mil + dmg on my f2p account by just dropping wells pretty much. And since all lower div players just stand on top of wells…..or stomp 1 teammate with 3 or 4 right on top of wells u can literally kill all fo them as if they where some pve mobs.

Nothing hard / pro about that.

Its not rare that im doing 1 mil + dmg on my f2p account by just dropping wells pretty much. And since all lower div players just stand on top of wells…..or stomp 1 teammate with 3 or 4 right on top of wells u can literally kill all fo them as if they where some pve mobs.

Nothing hard / pro about that.

Especially in soloq u need to play it a bit over the top untill u reach legend or the later half of diamond. So high risk high reward builds mostly.

Stalemate fights are not in your favour if you want to carry.

Im currently starting on my 3rd journey to legendary on my 3rd account (2nd that is non hot). It didnt even take me long despite some losing streaks here and there since i found ways to carry.

Im not saying MMR hell isnt there…..but there are ways to get out. Ppl at amber -> diamond arent that good in most cases so steamrolling them with (condi) burst builds is a very valid option and can turn games that seem unwinnable around. U just need to think outside the box and play super offensive builds.

I can literally grab a f2p account. Play a zerker amu + wells pre hot necro build and go without losses to sapphire since ppl will just stand, try to ress or stomp on top of wells. U can literally kill entire teams like that in the first 3 divisions.

well good for u I fully admit I am not elite, never will be and definitely will not be good enough to carry my whole team endlessly through the number of matches needed to vaguely improve my MMR – so I will never have the chance as solo q’er to play alongside those with similar skill, no one will want to team with some with my historic MMR so I am screwed. As stated season over as I have suggested If this is the only way out then I have no escape no matter how much I have improved -

What does your MMR have to do with finding players to team up? If you convince them with duels and some queuing they should see what you can or can’t.
For example we were looking for a new engi, now queuing, duelling and talking with him. So we see where he lacks knowledge and maybe he can find stuff that we are doing wrong. Not sure if MMR of single team members actually impact anything in the matchmaking. If it does, most likely only the MMR from the highest player matters.

As to why I keep coming back, I love a challenge and I love to compete. Yes, I’m also going ranked because I want the backpack. What I need is something resembling a fair chance though.

To compete is fun, to re-enannact Massada multiple times a night gets old fast.

Grab a 5 man team and compete. This suggestion goes out to all those people who are struggling in “MMR HELL!!!!!!”

If it is true, I don’t understand the reasoning. At any rate, the previous system worked and the current system does not.

The previous system didn’t work because of mmr tanking, allowed literally anybody regardless of MMR to reach legendary. This should never be the case. Legendary should be limited to the best players in the game, and this season’s system in that regard is far better than the old system.

I’m not talking about legendary I am not in that league and know my limits, would not want to be in legendary anyway for reasons I have mentioned on the forums in the past

Well previous system was better if:

1. There would be placement matches before the season
2. MMR reset instead of placement matches
3. Separation of SoloQ TeamQ
4. Scraping of Safe guards
5. Increased number of pips needed for every division
6. Anti smurf/amber shopping measures.

That way the system in s1 would have been complete copy of LoL ranked.

Almost. There is no solo queue in LOL anymore, only dynamic queue.
