Ive been wondering what will happen to the high value skins tpvpers have after the march 18th update. If things really do become transferable then its interesting to think about whether tpvp or pve was faster for obtaining the item. I went ahead and calculated it out for the fiery gladius at its current market prices. Feel free to leave your opinions!
My warrior is currently duel wielding fiery gladii (the pvp equivalent of firebringer). On one hand you can make them relatively easily in pvp, so high ranked players could flood the market with them; however, getting to rank 40 is quite the time commitment.
So lets do some easy maths with numbers from the wikipedia to see how hard it is to get them in pvp vs pve.
———————————————————————————————————————————————
Hours to get Fiery Gladius:
- Rank 40 is 361,500 rank points.
- You get 1200 rank points per soloque win and 150 per loss
- I have kitten win rate in soloques
So that means if i leveled to rank 40 using only soloques (after the patch that dramatically increased rank) with my win % staying stable we can easily calculate how many matches it’ll take to get to r40. My rank points per round is going to be: (the rank gained from winning)(percentage that i win) + (the rank gained from a loss)(percentage i lose).
- With an 55% win rate you’ll be averaging (1200)(.55) + (150)(.45) = 660 + 67.5 = 727.5 rank per game.
- With a 50% win rate you’ll be averaging (1200)(.50) + (150)(.50) = 600 + 75 = 675 rank per game.
- With a 60% win rate you’ll be averaging (1200)(.60) + (150)(.40) = 720 + 60 = 780 rank per game.
Lets assume that the average soloque has a 3 minute que time and each game lasts 10 minutes. That means we can easily calculate how long it’ll take use to get N amount of rank points using our win percentage.
The general equation to find the time to reach rank N with a known win percentage (check the leaderboards for yours) using only soloques we need to multiply our rank/game * time/game to get rank/min and then we can set the time to reach rank N as Time = (Total rank N) / (rank/min) which gets us the total amount of time to reach a rank in minutes (you can convert to hours by dividing by 60).
So now its time to find a general equation for Time to reach a rank using only your win percentages and an average game time of 10 min with a 3 minute que.
[(1200)(win%) + (150)(loss%)] * (1 game/13 minutes) = Some rank/ 13 min which you want to reduce to X rank / 1 min.
Time = Total Rank * (1min/rank). Notice that we have X rank/ 1min but need 1 min/X rank. So we simply divide our Total Rank by X rank/ 1 min or if you want to do it in one step its:
Time = Total Rank N / {[(1200)(win%) + (150)(loss%)] * (1 game/13 minutes)} which should get you the time in minutes to reach Total Rank N.
Now using myself as an example we already know that im getting 727.5 rank / game from our calculations above so we can use our nifty equation we just derived to get:
Rank/min = (727.5rank/game)(1game/13 minutes = approximately 56 rank/min.
Time = 361,500rank * (1min/56rank) = 6455 minute (1 hour/60min) = 107.6 hours to get to rank 40.

Hours to get Fiery Gladius in PVE. Im not much a pve player, but from what i understand its not unreasonable to get 3-5 gold per hour doing dungeons or champion farming. Fire Bringer is selling for 149g on the trading post right now so 149g/3g = 49.6hours and 149g/5g = 29.8 hours. Its roughly 30 to 50 hours to get 1 fire bringer. (assuming my gold/hour is still accurate).
———————————————————————————————————————————————
So the real question is how many fiery gladii do you have to make after reaching rank 40 for you to actually make a profit on them over someone who farmed them in pve.
Well we know that its about 1sword/40hours in PVE and we want to know how many swords you need to make after reaching rank 40 in tpvp for it to be worth it. In 107.6 hours it took us to get to rank 40 we could have crafted 2.7 fiery gladii. The trickiest part of this is glory. Do we have enough glory to immediately create 3 fiery gladii? I’m not sure what the glory rates are, but if someone is willing to figure it out i wouldnt mind checking out your findings. The glory rate has to be high enough that you can create 3 fiery gladii after reaching rank 40 and have a high enough glory income that you can get enough glory for another fiery gladii in under 40 hours. With glory boosters it seems that it wouldnt be too hard to meet those 2 conditions.
