How to defeat: Riffle Cele Meta Engi
You should be able to beat cele engies with condi ranger. I main engie. It takes me playing 100% perfectly against good condi rangers to beat them. Their condi pressure is too much for me to fight if I tank any of it.
Condi ranger, longbow ranger, condi necro, shatter mesmer (a really well played one) are all specs that can deal with cele engineers.
You can’t just spam your skills and hope to win your 1v1 against them. If you run entangle on your ranger, don’t use it right away as you want to proc their condi transfer into boon trait first. They are extremelly vulnerable to cc, so take that to your advantage with the immobs and knockbacks.
Always, ALWAYS dodge the Magnet Pull from them or use your Lightning Reflexes if you get caught by it, as you really don’t want to get hit by the pry bar. Also watch out and try to guess when the engi will use their knockback on their rifle (they always try to get as close as they can to you to maximize it’s effectiveness), this skill can be quite deadly if you don’t have any break stuns available.
If you take your distance, use your stealth well (use your barrage after that to make sure the engi doesn’t want to come close to you) and know when to use your greatsword, you should be able to win most of your fights versus them as you practice.
Hope the tips will help, don’t give up!

Condi ranger, condi necro (or power necro pops out lich), shatter mesmer are the main counter.
I’ll add another 1v1 build to the list too. Hybrid guard.
Rank: Top 250 since Season 2

On ranger you want to entangle halfway through the fight when they use gear shield. Try to prevent them from getting out by wolf fear/knockdown and whatnot.
As power ranger you will lose on node but win in open field.
Condi ranger can rolfstomp engis basically. Run around them and press 1. Frailty sigil on shortbow is good too.
As dps guard you can win if you don’t panic burn your condi removals. Engi is weak to immobilize and you got 1 unavoidable one(scepter) and the hammer one too. If you catch them in ring of warding(which is easy with judges) after they wasted the block you can easily kill them.
On thief if you s/d and engi is decent he will overcharge you at the end of flanking when you are kinda rooted. But that’s not enough to kill you. On d/p try to keep blinds on them. Using head shot to interrupt certain skills also confuses them and if you can predict the heal you can totally shut them down. Try to blast/leap through the ethereal field from throw gunk. That really hurts them.
Most engis walk close to you and overcharge. If you can predict and dodge that you already negated their whole burst.

Think straight up burnguard is worse than hybrid. You and Quilja have BBQ’d me one too many times.
Reroll a Digums.

I play dps guard and the only thing that I run from are turret engineers because you know…. Engi + 6 NPCs. Other than TURRET engineer’s you SHOULDN’T be having issues vs any other class as a dps guard.
Your combo should be along these lines:
If you’re running scepter/focus
Chain > Smite > Ray > Swap to GS > JI + BB > Symbol > Pull > WW > Leap > Swap to SC/F > Chain > Smite > Auto > Ray > Swap to GS > Leap > Smite + WW
All the while, don’t forget to use your CoP (I prefer using it just as he pelts me with condis and then knocks me back so I can clear his condis, stunbreak, and heal all at once) and your blocks to negate his damage while you hurtle around wrecking his face.
If you run sword/focus:
JI + Zealots defense > Auto attack if he’s in range. If he’s not, SW3 and then auto attack > Ray > Swap to GS > BB > Symbol, if he runs after getting hit by BB to make sure you can’t pull him, just go straight for the pull > Smite + WW > Auto attack > Leap once he tries to make distance > Auto Attack > Swap to sword and repeat the combo if you feel like it.
Edit: In the scepter combo, I meant smite as in the scepter skill. I mentioned you use smite + ww, meant smite condition.
Not encountered a cele engi that can beat my gs war yet. In fact its beaten every turret engi I’ve dueled this weekend too. Lol.

Please tell me those Turret Engis know how to mirror rampage or land overcharge shot. Because I find it hard to believe that a guy kitten-rolled from Warrior to Guardian can do anything crazy on Warrior really.

actually a sucker 100blades move on an engi seems about a good choice for an engi.
Cele engi (or was ) here. Currently ranked 110, NA.
I was having pretty good success with the build, switched slick shoes for Mine (extra aoe knockdown for caps, decaps). The main way to blow me up I noticed has been tons of immobs. Anything that can get me not moving or unable to use abilities. So rangers, hambow warriors, shatter mesmers, condi necros. Those are all great counters.
I have actually abandoned the build altogether as my MMR seems to have gotten me in a higher tier of players, now I am using something I put together that keeps the teams guessing. =)
“Corralll!”
Engi has very little condi removal and only 1 stunbreak. Basically you need to have a CC or condi heavy spec to beat them. If you don’t land your stuns or immobs, you can’t kill them. At best you will do enough damage to send them running, but not enough to finish them off.

Theres something wrong with that engi if the warr is able to land a full 100b once.

Was actually thinking I should make a montage vs shoutbow/turrets.. shame I didn’t record last weekend.
And to the stun lock hero above, I actaully have ‘kitten’-rolled to guard, ele, theif and engi as well as keeping my warrior up to scratch. I think you’ve been misinformed.
Also you don’t actually use 100b on a turret engi, its useful for cleaving the rocket turret granted. It’s the 3 and f1 skill that you should be landing on them without fail.
Why do people obseess over the 2 skill, like it defines the whole weaponset? It’s like people just watched some 2013 video of a guy hitting 15k on a zerk 100db and assume that must be what its used for.
If you think that’s cool though, I’ve got builds on other classes that will blow your minds. for real…..

how does giving me chaos armor hurt them ? for these measily 2-3 short cndis they get on?
Long duration condis overwhelm their mediocre condi clear, burning is good one.
