Idea for future to win people back to tpvp.
Solo queue
Voice chat
Ladder
Spectator mode
The population would explode with these additions.

I disagree with the solo queue part, but I have conflicted thoughts on that.
Ladder is critical. Imperative.
Observer mode is very important for both entertainment value, tournament (esport) value, and most importantly – for players to learn and improve!
Finally… and I saved this for last because I think it’s most important.
Without a built in voice system, the conversion rate from solo→ free team → paid team will forever be slow and unfriendly.
If you really want people to progress from hot join games all the way up to paid tournaments, you’ve got to supply the stepping stone of in-game voice coms. It doesn’t need to be in depth, hell you could even offer a “Deluxe” version for gems; but without this, a player never gets a chance to really begin to learn and enjoy the difference between random solo PvP and organized team PvP.
Good post.

Spvp is terrible really, every friend who enjoys pvp i know has left this game due to how terrible it is and it put a bad taste in their mouths and mine. They would need a complete overhaul of SPvP to actually get people wanting to play this again.
And as this id now Casual Wars 2 i doubt that will ever happen

^ Agreed. sPvP is a joke. The less than 100 people clinging to it in paid tournys are in denial. Hoping a population will form. It won’t. The PvP is fundamentally flawed and needs an overhaul from the ground up. AOE vs OBJ and other random clusterfu&$ is not a challenging PvP experience. This game went way too hard on the fire and forget attacks and AI controlled pets and too weak on actual targeted skill shots.

I actually purchased this game for the PvP.
Upon release, after a lot of PvP I found it lacking. I switched to WvW for some time, figuring they would fix stuff eventually. They had my loyalty from GW1 and some awesome promises made before release.
Then Ascended Gear. I quit. Haven’t come back yet.
I would consider returning (maybe) if sPvP gets fixed, but apparently it still isn’t. It may or may not be in the next couple months. I’m no longer willing to trust them. I want to verify before putting another minute into the game.
Eventually even the possibility of coming back for sPvP will fade.
I imagine I’m not the only one… judging by the comments of people I know, and some here on the forums.

I’m in a similar same boat. I bought this game for both the PvE and PvP as I enjoyed both in GW1. However, I quickly got bored of the mickey mouse PvE in this game (made it to level 14) and decided I would dedicate myself to PvP only. Unfortunately, that part is lacking as well. Not in terms of gameplay, but in terms of features.
i personally feel that the core of all spvp (wvw and dungeons as well) problems lies in the way professions and combat were designed.
i personally enjoy the freedom of movement while attacking and the added tactics of the dodge and rez mechanics, but the limitations to powers/skills/traits, powers/skills/traits at hand/ready, counter attack powers/skills/traits, viable weapons choices for most situations and lack of powers/skills/traits customization outside of gear choices are my main issues. gw2 combat is built like a limited and bad console game so naturally it won’t hold the interest of complex and competitive players who enjoy a robust combat and character/profession experience.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.

I have an issue with the voice system, Mostly because people are nasty when they can speak freely. ESPECIALLY IN A COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT. And they will rush to blame the next person instead of accepting that it was their fault or a team issue.
Ok, those are some other ideas. Idk about voice system. alot of mmos dont have one.
However, what do people think of the live event? It would draw crowds at least, and assuming by the time they do it, spvp is a bit better, then maybe it would get people back into that scene.

You need voice chat if you want to be competitive. Every single team game released these days has voice chat.
Saying that you don’t like it because of trash talking is like saying you play sports with earplugs because you can’t take the trash talk.
You’re totally gimped without voice chat in this game.

Too late. Even solo queue and events won’t revive this death horse.
There is only 2 ways to “sort of” revive it, gw2 spvp becomes free to play with cosmetics as source of revenue, or you give gold, karma and some kitten usefull for pve or wvw for playing spvp (and give it to everyone, just for playing, not 100 gems if u win a paid a tournament…).
I think it can be revived. Apart from relatively minor gameplay mechanics issues (say, rallying off of a jagged horror, etc) most of the turn-offs to the game have to do with entry barriers and a lack of close matches. When people have to spend a long time researching on GW2wiki to figure out how to play, it’s bad. When people spend hours researching and still lose 500 to less than 50 many games, it’s bad.
The good news is that there are simple, effective ways to stop those two population killers. Now, if we could only make up our mind to support those ideas on the forums…
Wait, are you guys saying there are other things Gw 2 needs beside a comprehensive ingame ladder????
mind = blown.

Live event might be a useful tool to show off improvements.
Having that before making serious, meaningful improvements that are absolutely required for competitive PvP would be suicide.

Honestly, without the ladder (or MMR or ELO or whatever) system, nothing else matters.
But, ranking alone can’t fix what’s broken.

I know a match making system can be tough to impliment. But one Quick and dirty one that would be easy (though extremely limited).
Free tournies-
ADD up the ranks of the players quing. So 5 rank 10s, would be 50, then put them against the next lowest cumulative ranks. so 74 lets say. So a bunch of r10-12s fighting each other.
Take the two highest cumulative rank teams. And basically group them in the same way. So from top to bottom each team is matched up with the closest cumulative ranked team with a randomizer for the rare tie.
I know its not perfect as it doesnt identiifty premades. And low rank premades will destroy there low rank pugs, and high ranked premades will destroy high ranked pugs.
But thats better than high ranked premades destroying low ranked pugs.
It basically helps the first round alot, the two highest rank teams fighting each other first round. the 3rd and 4th highest ranked teams fighting each other first round. All the way to 7th and 8th highest ranked teams matching up.
This isnt a long term matchmaking solution, its a free tourny adjustment that would be (relatively) easy to code. all they would have to do is have a way to count up the pvp ranks compare and matchmake on that basis. ITs very crude, but it would help, not solve the current problem.
team rank 400 would be really high (team of five 40’s for example). Team rank 330 might be second highest, and they would face off in first round.
It would reduce, not eliminate the amount of bad match ups in free, and its a simple formula till they come up with a proper elo or w/e they have planned.
Making the most difference where its needed, in the first round.

to the topic:
-Pvp-Events similar to GW1 (double fame WE etc.)
-lower entry fee for paids to 3 tickets (sure lower rewards with it)
-get a soloqeue for free tournament where only random teams and not premades are playing. So it would be easier for beginners to have fun and reach something instead of getting stomped in tha last map by premades.
-put in free tournament where only premades are, so you can learn as a average core-team and have a competitive level. (Good practice for teams to reach a “paid” level)
-besides matchmaking (based on rank/QP or w/e), a guild ladder similar to GW1 where you’re guild has more worth and get better known.
-Alliance system (as in GW1) where guilds with similar levels can connect with each other as a community and not being on 4 guilds seperated.
-last: put the servers together to get heart of the mist full and not only full in the pvp-server (Desolation, Anvil Rock), because beginners don’t know where the big crowd of pvp is. So the LFG function would make sense.
Hope some ppl think as I am doing
Solo queue
Voice chat
Ladder
Spectator modeThe population would explode with these additions.
One game type
Conquest game mode
Broken classes – useless/broken skills, traits, utility
Pathfinding issues (mobility skills)
Infuriatingly vague and incorrect tooltips and skill/trait descriptions
Pay to play/pvp “tickets”
3 maps
No current ability to improve at a significant pace; fight either team hercule and stomp them or team goku and get obliterated (due to the polarized player population and small amount of pvpers, leading to extremes in skill, and resulting in few middle-range pvpers)
etc etc
Fixing these would bring back a kitten ton more players than adding end-game things spectator mode to a game that is basically still in beta.

Normal chat is just as bad.
I mean calling someone a kitten for not taking points on voice chat and not only – OK.
Cheap shots towards your choice of profession/tactic/build – not OK.
Guess how many fall in the first category and how many in the last.
Spvp delightful moments: elementalists switching from air to earth when about to go down that naturally get chased to be finished off. His message on map chat: “chase me more”. Same elementalist who previously overuses his laugh emote with EVERY kill, to belittle his fallen opponents. Mostly scholars using the “heartseeker noob” accolade even though all of them have some annoying and much more effective calling card skill so to speak. Yet it`s perfectly normal for them to spam those aforementioned game breakers. I mean if u want to be foul go ahead but do it if it`s warranted.
