Clarification: Professions have their own MMR tracked, but it is not currently used in matchmaking because players can switch professions after a match is made.

So a loophole is disabling a powerful tool to generate good matches?

I’d, uh, kinda close the loophole…

The problem with doing this is that players can no longer switch to a more effective profession once they see the enemy team’s roster which happens quite often.

perhaps you could implement a toon select system similar to mobas’ champion select.

once map select happens, have players draft their class (and maybe show the specs they choose) (but maybe not amulet/rune/sigils/traits, so there can still be a huge element of surprise, but invested vets will know general build archetypes well enough to attempt to counterpick) in a 1-2-2-2-2-1 format, switching off for their choices.

at that point you can then lock professions in for a game, and make profession mmr meaningful. but that leaves the question of how to even make an mmr based match, cuz this idea is not implying that a player needs to be on the toon they decide to use for a match. maybe you would have to scrap profession mmr. after all, the big mobas dont try to calculate a different mmr for people based on a subset of selections, they just give one number and imply “play the best you can” or whatever.

Please, make rank games more serious without possibilities to switch. So group can form up and adjust in unranked their comp before doing some solid thing for ranked queue. This will remove all cancer, aids or trolls builds because people will choose wisely since they can’t switch.

Your MMR is still volatile since you haven’t played many matches. The more you play, the better matchmaking will become for you. Also remember that ranked and unranked have separate MMRs so if you decide to jump into Ranked when you hit 20, you will have a similar experience until you adjust for that new pool of players.

Evan i have a great idea!! You probably never thought of this one….

But what about putting new accounts (which are more often than not new players) or even accounts that havent played pvp yet at the lower end of the MMR spectrum.

Can you imagine what a miserable experience it must be for a new player. Within a handfull of games he is forced to play vs world champions/tournament winners instead of players of his own level.

Why are you doing this to new players? Why are you making their lives miserable? Why do you maintain a system like this?

And they shouldn’t be able to change based on that imo. You should just hide the enemy roster and lock people into their base until the match starts – this allows teams to refine their comps but not to counter the enemy’s comp. Guild wars before build wars.

Just curious if anyone from Anet has an answer to this:

The last match i played today….where these players really even remotely close to my MMR? We won a game that was for a big part 4v5. Solod 3 of them at one point. Couple of them probably didnt even know its possible to dodge in this game.

A staff ele teammate of mine stood on a ledge in the middle at Khylo and tanked a warrior untill he died. I peeled and healed from below the ledge. He just stood there and turreted damage on to the middle untill he died.

Perhaps there is a flaw with this, but that seems to eliminate the issues and excuses for changing class, etc. Why not do it this way? Of course one big problem would be yet another UI change, and I don’t think Anet wants to do it…
