Ladder / ranking / custom tournaments
Why do people keep using this term “pro teams”? Pro is short for professional. professional means you make a living doing whatever you are a professional at. Unless I’m missing something, I seriously doubt that there are a bunch of “pro teams” in GW2. If I am missing something, please let me know. I’d love to replace my income by sitting around the house playing video games. The catch is, it has to pay 6 figures. Anyone?

Arena Net please don’t listen to any of this nonsense.
Do your thing, do it well.
Release when ready.
That is all.
Xynthe – The game is ready since 28. August 2012 if you missed that information..
where is compettition? where is what was promissed? PvPers get like 20% of what the game should offer and we have no information when the rest will be delivered.
no wonder there is so much QQ.
Blog post is still coming, just has been pushed out about a week, it is written and sitting in locs hands!
We found some major issues with the tournament backbone we’ve spent the last couple of weeks focused on making sure it’s 100% right before we start expanding any other functionality. We’d hate to for example start doing say…tournaments with more meaning, and suddenly have you not get rewarded, not matched up properly, etc.
We’ve almost got all that stuff ironed out, soon as we do we’ll follow up with blog posts about our plan for PvP/E-sports in the coming months.
Thanks for your patience folks and sorry for the misquote on timing. we were under the impression that stuff would get up earlier and wanted to wait until we were 100% sure we knew how it’d work after addressing the issues we found before talking about it.
Thanks everyone! Once new features start turning on, you should see them, and our E-sports support growing on a pretty rapid basis. Our goal is to be faster than the timelines of other major recent esports games like LoL after they launched in the rate at which we roll out competitive features and make sure we’ve got all the major pieces needed for long term success up and running. We know it’s very important to you, and it’s very important to us to grow and build that competitive gaming community.
Best,
Colin

you should hire someone to write a short post about what you guys are doing that week and release it every Monday… there would be a lot less “useless” post asking the same thing all the time

Thanks Colin for some answer.
So you found an issue in tournament system.. you should tell us btw.. and we would be quite for a while.. just remember.. small answer is 1000 times better then no answer.
so once again, even i still dont know any time shedule, at least i know what are you guys working on right now.
Thank you for the update, Colin! Even without the the blog posts, its better to keep us up to date once in a while (if its possible – let it be more often), instead of complete silence for weeks. So, if you still have some more bits of info, pass it along. It will be more then welcome.
Again, thanks for posting and see you ingame!

We all greatly appreciate this information, to tell us so much about what’s going on in the company to your playerbase really strengthens our commitment and trust in you. I don’t want to come off ungrateful in any way, but could this not have been told to us a week or more back :P? It would have probably prevented a lot of threads being made, a lot of hate being passed back and fourth, as well.
Thank you, Colin.
Good to hear, and related by Jon Peters:
how about paid tournaments first. then we can talk templates. how about ranking too and stuff. templates are coming. but only so many people working on it at a time
paid tournaments first. lets get that stable. then keep it roling. paid tournaments will split premades from pugs a bunch. which is imprtant. its also a feature that was done at ship. but now had some scalability bugs and fixing it requires some server rework. which is neede(d) for all other features anyway
^thank you Dashel, good read.

The turnaround time on the blog post seems pretty silly but I’m glad you were able to give us an update and let us know that you there were people at least working on things for tournies.
“We’ve almost got all that stuff ironed out, soon as we do we’ll follow up with blog posts about our plan for PvP/E-sports in the coming months.”
I’m no expert, but shouldn’t a blog come first especially if it includes the future plans? I appreciate that tournaments are being worked on, but all this just to get a blog post out? Something doesn’t feel right.
Let’s keep things in perspective. GW2’s sPvP at launch was undeniably far more balanced than the vast majority of PvP in other MMO’s, and arguably the most balanced. I’m quite happy they’ve hit so close to the mark so soon from launch.
It will be nice to see some kind of PvP manifesto coming out (if that happens), and we should be patient. After all, this game is already quite good off the bat and there’s no subscription fee! :-)

Are you serious? We’ve been waiting for 4 weeks just to be told that you’re going to release some blog posts in the coming months?

No, silly!
They will release the plans for the coming months in the blog posts that will come as soon as they’ve got all the issues ironed out. I’m pretty sure you misunderstood it.
