The Ascended Ones – Anvil Rock
This is a HUGE problem for me. Currently I am 8/11 for the YotAP1 achievement; all I need is 1 more day of 3 ranked games, make my essence… and somehow complete League Professional… The first two are easy. But getting League Professional is somewhat “impossible” for me. Here’s why.
Back in beta, or early launch, my friend and I vowed never to play any class in PvP besides 1, I chose Guardian. And playing almost 2k matches over 1220 days, I have held true to this. But now, I have two options, 1) Say screw it and play 5 matches with some random character, 2)Not go for this achievement, and for me.. that’s hard. I love getting these metas and titles like “Spirited Drinker” for some reason, and Im proud of my 18k AP.
This really upsets me because I love kitten near everything Anet has put out, but this single achievement is really bothering me.. I think it either should be changed/deleted/not required for the meta. I can’t be the only one who took up this vow of keeping that circle on the PvP panel a single color.
Thoughts? Anyone else agree?

I think there is a very high chance that you and your friend are the only people in the game with over 2000 matches and all of them on one class.
You’re angry that you won’t get an achievement for playing multiple professions because YOU CHOOSE NOT TO. Your choice, you live with it.
I choose not to do jumping puzzles. I will never get those achievements. I’ve come to terms with that. It’s your choice not to do the achievement. You can’t blame anyone but yourself, especially since it’s a super easy one.

This so much this… You don’t even need to be proficient, just not a lame liability to your team…

Tbh I’m not going to cry about it or angry, I was just curious if anyone else was in my same position. Apparently not. Lol.
And to compare JPs to PvP isn’t really the same at all… There are no stats for what toon you used for JPs…win rates/games played/etc. But that’s besides the point.
Yes, I agree this is 100% my choice, and I’m cool with it. Just kinda, mehhh.
And with me playing Guard, I honestly feel like I’ve never held my team back at all. I have a variety of different builds to play in ranked/unranked. What team doesn’t need some sort of Guard/DH on their team? Or at least, would complain about having a good one.
i can’t get the 3rd class done because i can only play 2 well enough. playing a third class that i’m not really good on in diamond/legendary division would be a bit selfish for the players in my team. just because of this i think that those achievements are terrible.
I’m sure 2 or 3 games won’t really show up on your circle, especially after the ton of games you have on your one toon.
What kind of vow is that? Just……why?

Why not? Staying true to a profession allows you become more proficient with it albeit you probably won’t know enemy class mechanics as well (you can always refer to the wiki).

That isn’t necessarily true :P. Staying true to a profession means that instead of playing the game as the game is meant to be played, you play it through your class’ viewpoint only (hence some of the ridiculous neff request threads).

Staying true to a profession doesnt mean you have to avoid playing all other professions like its the plague, just play your games for the achievement and then go back to only playing guardian, theres no good reason to put that kind of restriction on yourself
i have over 2500 as guard…. he isn’t the only one who plays one class!

Yeah I already said that.

Yeah but staying true to the profession, in this case, doesn’t mean that. It’s, quite literally, exclusively one class.

Well as long as you’re not the one calling nerf for other classes I’m cool with whatever choice you pick…
I have over 2000 games on my warrior. I used to be like you, but now I play warrior, necro, engi, revenant and some thief. I’m much happier and a better pvper because of it.
I wish it would require 5 matches on all 9 classes not just on two classes.
Just to let it be known… I only strictly play Guardian in PvP, not across the entire game.
I have all other classes with full ascended gear/elite spec/decent map completion/and have spent hours and hours in WvW with all of them testing “meta” PvP builds to see how they work/CDs/combos/etc. By no means am I just seeing PvP from just a Guardians PoV, I have also never complained about builds in meta because from my exp, there is always some sort of counter.
I’m trying to get that achievement on 2 separate accounts. I’m currently running a 10% win rate on elementalist. I had similar “success” on Scrapper. There’s something to be said for profession MMR and for playing what you know.

The most stupid and cluelessness post ever read.

He wouldn’t be wrong to guess so. There are people who farm dailies, there are people who want/have to try at least a second class for whatever group they usually run with. There are newbies who spammed every class looking to see which they enjoyed more. There are people who just played something else out of boredom.
If you aren’t in any of the above mentioned groups, you’re one of the very few.
Actually I totally understand what the OP is talking about. I was going to leave the meta achievements alone as I had very little experience playing anything other than my main. I had a thief that I have barely played and decided to use it for the year one meta. Got the 5 ranked wins in Ruby league which was actually a very painful process as thief which requires a lot of skill to play properly and gets eaten by DH traps too easily. By the time I got to my 5th win (many matches later) I was starting to get the hang of it. However you do realise you are gimping your team because you aren’t used to your new class, and are instrumental in losing some matches.
My advice to the OP is give it a try on another class, which may take a little while to achieve 5 wins but it is absolutely doable.
On a side note, whoever decided to put profession achievements in the league and even dailies should remove them. These types of achievements encourages people who main 1 class to use a class they are unfamiliar with in ranked PvP and no doubt is one of the reasons why matchmaking sucks and pug teams end up not being even close to each others skill level.

i have something like 4k matches on thief across 2 accounts..<_<
>Mesmer main
>Get halfway through Ruby and realise I need to win 5 on another class
>Wait till beginning of Diamond to try so dont lose tiers
>Can’t play any other class to a decent standard
>Lose 4 in a row on Tempest
>Given up and waiting till next season

I think Seyiwaji.4082 doesn’t read much if he thinks my post is the most stupid he has ever read. lol
Anyway maybe you misunderstood since obviously you don’t read much. My point was its very unlikely to have 2000 matches and ONLY have played one class. You can obviously have 2000 matches on a class but to tell me you have not played any other class in pvp even once is extemely rare.

Yes but that means you have 3k matches on other classes right? My point was its rare to have played so many matches and ONLY on one class.

I aggree totally with jekkt. i play quite well 2 profession, and im trying to learn a 3rd one only to this ach, and i just hope that for the 4th thier it wont be a 4 profession ach..
You willingly chose to limit yourself to one class. I don’t think they should change a pretty reasonable achievement to cater to the very low population of pvpers that only plays one class.
I don’t play PvP but browsing the forums I found this thread and the responses here made me think: Why not?
I started to play this game because I saw engineer gameplay. Bought the game and love engineer. I don’t give the slightest kitten about the other professions. Got my principles though. Same with race. Asura only. Forever.
Cheers!

Why not? Because you won’t understand the subtle intricacies that go on for every class. If you don’t know these, at least partially, you’ll let several openings go by without punishing them. You won’t have any idea as to what regular cooldowns or rotations look like. Sure, you can wiki it, but you won’t learn everything you need to know nearly fast enough. You don’t need to be a god at every class, but at least knowing the basics behind every class is, I believe, a must.
Sun Tzu-
It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.
Playing the other classes in PVE doesnt really count that much. Yes it helps a little but you need to play them in PvP to really know how they work.
I don’t think they should change a pretty reasonable achievement to cater to the very low population of pvpers that only plays one class.
but this achievement infect everybody, because it force to play classes you do not know and it hurts the entire team.
