I want to link the VoDs from yesterday and highlight the fact that every single kyhlo game against Rough Boyz, we are ahead 50-100 points when we get DDOSed (it’s like 5 games in a row with that same pattern).

I hate to say it, but I’m also leaning to the rough boiz being the perpetrators. All of the DDOS’s I suffered were too well timed for someone not to have done them in support of them… It was never when they were ahead and never when they were catching up.

It was egregiously well timed to the point where it had to have been someone who was watching the game, at LEAST.

We didn’t expect to win, but we did put in alot of practice hours in order to do a better showing. Fact that the same respect wasn’t shown was irritating and made it feel like the hours we put in were thrown away.

My team also came to that conclusion for those reasons, Ostrich.

I’m surprised it took this long for this to actually happen. DDoS isn’t difficult to accomplish. Pretty much any computer literate person could perform one. That’s why tournaments are generally always LAN. It prevents any type of latency advantages and also prevent attacks like this.

As much as I make fun of gw2 esports it’s still sad to see things like this happen. Everyone should have a fair chance of competing, it doesn’t matter if the game would have been a blow out. With attitudes like these what’s the point of even having a qualifier?

Nos and Caed had to bow out for school reasons (the date is literally their finals week). Props to them, as well as backpack for helping us get chaith and toker up to snuff to still stay on top.

That is the correct roster. Chaith and I replaced Nos and Caed because they weren’t able to attend the event in China due to personal situations. Although Wakkey, Chaith, and I were all three once Good Fights , we are now representing Abjured for the tournament. I know the roster has confused a lot of people.
The events yesterday were unfortunate and unexpected. I have my mind dead set on who I believe was doing the DDOS attacks. I shall not disclose my opinion on the matter because I cannot provide any concrete evidence. What I can tell you is that every time Ostrich’s internet was attacked and disconnected, was a crucial moment in the match and could have costed us the match or set us behind very easily. Yesterday was stressful for all parties, but I would like to thank Grouch for making excellent calls and fair decisions for the events that nobody was prepared for. I’m sure Arena Net is working diligently to prepare for future interruptions. Despite the unfortunate events I still love and believe in the community and this game. Abjured will continue to prepare and represent North America to the best of our ability in China. Thanks to all.

We won when we were the only ones DCing with a set of “honor” rules that were agreed upon before the match. Kaypud sat out when I DC’d, but when I came back into the game I would DC instantly or be so laggy that I should have just sat out.

Even though I didn’t really participate, the fact that my team pretty much 4v5’d the finals should show that it doesn’t need to be redone… Yes, I know that doesn’t change how you feel and I understand your perspective entirely, but asking to redo the thing is pretty crazy IMO

I’m sure everyone will have a fresh IP when any tournament that matters occurs again, these attacks have sure set an ugly precedent.

But I’m not sure what power anyone has here to force restart the WTS qualifiers. Due to pressure on the World Tournament Series Event #1 schedule, I’m not even sure if the Arenanet higher ups could possibly approve it.

Personally, I feel very robbed that the event couldn’t be streamed for being an un-watchable viewing experience due to hours of restarts/disconnects.

Personally, speaking only for myself, I would welcome any opportunity to play the same match-ups in a clean game, on stream.

This is troubling. Hope ANET can control this before it gets out of hand. Rules have to be put in place I really hope to see GW2 tournament scene grow because the game is fun to play and watch. The scene is young so their is still time.

Haha.. people don’t know, I think the WTS qualifiers clocked somewhere in the realm of 60 total disconnects during games, throughout all the matches. Those numbers are not fact checked, as I wasn’t able to view the Rough Boyz vs. Memory of Vyndetta matches, which were from what I hear, hours of disconnects, completely on the player’s end.

Glad I stopped playing the game. Every time I drop by the forums, there is a similar post about “X” issues in this game/tournament.

I’ve stopped in to check out the last 2 tournaments and it seems pretty stale. I’ve seen the same 15 guys in the finals brackets that were playing in the “top-tier” a year ago.

Good luck in China, hopefully there has been enough competition to keep your builds fresh and skills up to par.

Speaking from the perspective of a Twitch spectator, what happened on Sunday was just tragic. I wish I had taken screenies of the chat, some of it was heart-breaking stuff. I can only imagine how it must have appeared to someone new to GW2 stumbling on to the stream, wanting to check if the game is worth hopping into. You’d have to be a colossal masochist to even contemplate giving GW2 a try after witnessing the circus that took place. The bad publicity goes well beyond the PvP aspect of the game and impacts the game as a whole.

As for the players, it’s a demoralizing blow to the NA community for sure. So much hard work and practice down the toilet. Still, I hope NA can regroup once tempers settle and come together as a community to support the Abjured as they prepare for China. NA has a realistic chance of putting up a good show in Beijing, but only if the scene stops cannibalizing itself. The person(s) responsible for Sunday’s antics might not realize it, but NA just sabotaged itself. Very shortsighted.

Hahaha, isn’t it wonderful? NA spvp community has 15man strong know how to play conquest, has a good commander/leader, NA can make a Guild now. oh and i agree Stale meta is stale, believe me you must see the day when they resurrect those Champions of them on that tombstone.

Given that no one could watch it, and the lack of teams participating (i heard only 3 in EU and 5 in NA, but could be wrong), I’m guessing they will redo the tournament in some way.

Right now it is just too embarrassing to have a final after all that.

Another thing that hasn’t changed was that during PAX (not officially claimed esports), it had the same viewership which it has now, which means practically nothing has changed.

Any marketing effort conducted by the GW2 marketing team has failed because it meets or (a good word opposite of exceeds) falls behind what last years turnout was.

Another thing, if I remember correctly even though at PAX those teams were bad (if you watched last year, the 2 words most remembered is ‘butt’ ‘mustache’, there was more than 5 NA teams.
So another failure of the GW2 marketing team, all this shows is a decrease in the hype for PvP, which the goal of marketing teams is to increase hype.
So GW2 marketing team failed.

If you think about it, GW2 marketing relies solely on twitch shoutcasters when it comes to the tournament. To me looking from outside in, it seems like they do nothing at all (gw2 marketing team). Also, another observation is that BLU was shoutcaster for PAX and for this WTS qualifiers. PAX had more viewership previously than it does now, so the shoutcaster needs to step it up as well. If anyone, TapDatMouse has some good videos and that dude actually knows what the heck is going on and is entertaining.
Another observation is that, if I recall correctly, they (PAX) didn’t offer (or not excessively as/ it wasn’t main reason to watch the twitch unlike WTS, it comprised of more people who support PvP rather than leeching others) incentives like llamas and precursors unlike WTS but they had higher viewership. Which could mean that people don’t like the way the shoutcaster gives away precursor and llamas so they don’t even come to watch (mainly for chance) because they know they wont earn it, or maybe precursors and llamas have little value now. Contrary, GW2 should have that spectate mode implemented to all viewers to watch these tournaments. I hear other games people get to watch them itself and not rely on twitch. This is how I see this difference, think of GW2 WTS like a college basketball game. Being able to spectate the GW2 WTS game yourself is actually being there. Twitch is watching the game on a TV. People want to be there, when they are there that’s when hype builds up. (Hype builds up from within the stadium, to people around the world who then become interested, in games term, from the video game to people who are thinking about playing the game or seeing how it currently is and if they should come back, twitch should be of those diehards and people at work, or people curious, and not for people at home who could view it in game if it was possible)
If your worried about chat room getting filled have a active playing chat for active players and a spectate room chat for spectates but allow active players to look at spectate chat if they like.
If you worry about cheating, look at it like this, in real sports sometimes the fans will help the players out by yelling that guy is wide open, you got to guard him or pass ball to him. And when fans help there favorite team out, the ref’s don’t call foul, its game on still. It goes both ways and is fair. Team A can get help but Team B can get help too, its not like they handicapped. If its a home game and everyone supporting team A than tough luck for team b. The fans are hyped and want there team to win, its all good for big business.

One thing I have to add is that whenever they do something like comment or like us on facebook or twitter (for the chance to win something), most people will not do this, because facebook and twitter is personal and they don’t want GW2 into there personal lives, so its a good idea not to do things like that. They don’t want people to know who they are in real life.
StarCraft, Diablo2, Halo, WoW, Super Mario, etc didn’t become popular because of facebook and twitter.

You completely missed the point. 8 teams in the WTS qualifier is fine. The question was how many of those 8 actually played. Did all 8 play? Was it only 3 in EU and 5 in NA like I heard? For a tournament this large, you’d expect all 8 teams to be present.

Condi spam meta.. yeah I dunno about that one, bud. And if it was, Oegg’s Rabid Engineer would probably be the first to get rekt.

EU Meta has next to no condition overload. On NA, it’s just a core of Engi, Ele, Thief, with the optional War/Necro/Ranger/Mesmer/Guard based on what the people play. Just for the fact that you can bring any profession, and not be behind (when using a suitable strategy) attests to the decent balance happening right now.

Engineer meta builds always have high condition application due to grenades, but damage output is more power oriented than condi. Eles do rely on burning, but don’t have a ton of condi spam. Don’t look at the Thief, either.

Basically, the conditions are more from what you choose to bring. If you choose a Rabid Engi, Terror Necro, or Entangle Ranger, alright I guess you have condition overload – but that’s the option, not the meta pick.

Either way, on EU or NA there aren’t more than one player per team running a Rabid/Carrion amulet, that’s for sure.

Condi spam meta.. yeah I dunno about that one, bud. And if it was, Oegg’s Rabid Engineer would probably be the first to get rekt.

EU Meta has next to no condition overload. On NA, it’s just a core of Engi, Ele, Thief, with the optional War/Necro/Ranger/Mesmer/Guard based on what the people play. Just for the fact that you can bring any profession, and not be behind (when using a suitable strategy) attests to the decent balance happening right now.

Engineer meta builds always have high condition application due to grenades, but damage output is more power oriented than condi. Eles do rely on burning, but don’t have a ton of condi spam. Don’t look at the Thief, either.

Basically, the conditions are more from what you choose to bring. If you choose a Rabid Engi, Terror Necro, or Entangle Ranger, alright I guess you have condition overload – but that’s the option, not the meta pick.

Either way, on EU or NA there aren’t more than one player per team running a Rabid/Carrion amulet, that’s for sure.

Is this abjured or good fights? Can’t really tell. Not sure the point of qualifiers if people just rebuild their team.

Regardless, there needs to a replay of the NA event. Right now, the tournament is a disgrace. Not what ANET wanted for their first WTS event.

The point isn’t to rebuild the team and we had no intentions to do so. We found great replacements for nos and caed in both toker and chaith. Nos and Caed had to bow out for school reasons (the date is literally their finals week). Props to them, as well as backpack for helping us get chaith and toker up to snuff to still stay on top.

you played necro in this setup?

For a while I did, but it was mainly to play against comps that hard countered my condi engi with stuns and condis.

Also, to everyone not excited about this tourney and point to the previous ones, I feel pretty bad for you.

The horrendous balancing over the last year + prevented anyone from even caring about the game. Now we have 2 top teams with their rosters filled with stellar players. This is something that has never happened before, especially in a decent meta.

Pax was a joke to begin with after the disaster of dhuumfire. Get with the times ladies, we’re goin esports.

Ostricheggs is playing on this stream engi or ele most of the time. Ostricheggs is esports if he plays engi. But necro? I watched the MPW cup. Hope to see Ostricheggs with pistol

I like the fact that people think GW2 is gonna be esports. It’s a positive attitude we need. I am one of those who hope for GW2 to really become esports

For anyone else thats actually wondering about Guardians viability, if a team wants to run a Guardian and use the appropriate strategy, ie: playing for 2 points, forcing teamfights, and decapping, that can be done, it is competitive.

This right here. Guard never went out of meta or wasn’t good. Playing with a guard forces you to play 2 points instead of 3 so you avoid bad match ups. Problem with that is to avoid that, you essentially need to have the threat of a decap or the ability to +1 a a fight.

So you essentially need a thief and there were none playing at the time until toker and caed came back.

It’s nbd, does suck that it’s unblockable but nowhere near as big of a deal for us considering the number of cleanses and invulns and dodges we get
