Mesmer Frustration
Still a brainless class with too much “I messed up” buttons, map control, and team fight presence. Seriously a godly Mesmer will be a trash Warrior or Ranger, that’s just how the skill relation is between the Mesmer and those two other classes are.
I agree on that. They got alot of “Get out of jail free” cards.
I know they are the mind-kitten class,But why must it come with so much damage and utility as well?
Start playing mesmer and learn the abilities and to evade their burst (shatter). Another help is experience. The more you duel with mesmers the easier it gets to counter them. It needs time to get comfortable with them.
Does no one remember GW1 at launch? Mesmers absolutely dominated in pvp.
My only real complaint is that they never have to reacquire their target (except in the case of fighting another mesmer or a stealthed thief), and can continue to toss clones at their leisure, while the rest of the professions have to re target before engaging again. Drop target abilities in this game are exceptional.
I’m just going to say this before i let this thread run it’s course, cause i don’t believe in thread stalking:
I know very kitten well how a mesmer works and how to counter them. I’m just saying that doing that on a normal Spvp setting with everything going about around you is laughable.
I’ve faced more mesmers then i have wanted to , mainly because how popular they are at Spvp and WvWvW (Odd right? ).
There are the new ones that haven’t got the overflowing bag of tricks down yet, so they die moderately fine.
And there are the ones that got that down and it usually takes 3 people to bring them down, if at all.
Not counting that the mesmer need not do anything special at all to kitten my world up 3 days from sunday since i ain’t got invisability, 4 illusions of my self and invunrability.
Actually in hotjoin and wvw you will see rarely a good mesmer. Second: I don’t get why you bring this topic up, when you have a lot experience with them. You said now you know how they work and to COUNTER them. So why the topic “Mesmer Frustration”.
I thought you want the get advices here how to handle them. Instead you just QQ about there strenghts… Not getting this, sorry.

Troll? Warrior in “High-End-Competition” is the hardest class in this funny Range/BlinkBlink>ALL Game.

Ha, this post sounds like you’re mad. Mesmer requires a great deal of strategy, quick reflexes, and great positional awareness. You have to monitor your health and the the health of three clones/phantasams. You’re squishy as hell so you need to be fast to distortion/clone/dodge or else you fall quickly. It takes a bit more than just sicking a pet on the target and firing away or popping quickness and lunging into combat.
It requires thinking.
Their class mechanics don’t fit very well into this type of game. Unfortunately, they’re a GW class and they’re not going anywhere, nor are their core mechanics.

^This.
If someone gets to the Mesmer (the real one)… 1 2 3 and it’s dead!
I would reccomend every one to roll on a Mesmer and try it on, and then you will say "ohhh, thats why … "
I play a mesmer. I disagree. They’re not THAT inherently fragile. And I play a glass shatter bomb much more often than confusion bomb (significantly more survivable).
The fact is, mesmers do have a number of target-drop, oh-[kitten], and invulnerability skills available. And, short on those, there’s always daze when you’re in a pinch.
I like my mesmer. I play it often. I don’t think it’s horribly overpowered, but kitten if it doesn’t have tons of utilities available for all kinds of situations. It’s very demanding to play, but I think it’s totally inaccurate to say they’re inherently squishy, supposedly balancing out their strengths. I don’t think they’re that squishy, even built [well] as glass.
That said, I don’t think they’re horribly overpowered—though they can be, given stealth rendering issues still present 5+ months after release. I just think they’re annoying to fight.

That is the problem with all the high utility classes in every game.
It so happens that they also do the greatest dps.
And in every other game as in GW2,devs seem to not get
class balance at all.
lose a pip,win 2 pips,lose a pip,lose a pip…………..-
-Go go Espartz.-

Umm. An equally skilled ranger will trash a mesmer in 1on1 if speced right. Everytime.
Traps just mess up shatter.

At the higher levels where its good players against good players yes. The major problem is that mesmers (and I find thieves to) are to easy to initially pick up and succeed with.
Bluntly put a bad mesmer will beat a bad-average player of any other class just through the inherent abilities the class has. It only becomes difficult when players become better and learn to counter those abilities that you have to start being smart with using them.
Now you might think this is a perfectly reasonable thing and I’d almost be inclined to agree with you except for the fact that it is issues like this causing this games pvp to stumble.
When relatively inexperienced players join and get roflstomped by a team that is 1/2 to 2/3 mesmers they either a) get frustrated and leave or b) roll a mesmer believe they are awesome decide to eventually try tournaments and get beaten by the smart players there and decide not to again.
Both of these instances make it decidedly unenjoyable for new players and frustrating for the veteran players as the player base they have to go against isnt growing.
It is just the ability of the mesmer to constantly move around and teleport. Avoiding the damage is not so much the issue from a war PoV as it is dealing the damage.
You simply can’t trade hits as well.
Let’s not forget the other half of the OP—we’re talking about engineer vs mesmer. I’m not saying engineers are trash (they’re probably at least the seventh best profession in PvP!) but mesmers are a hard counter to engineers in a 1v1. Except for ranged-pressure grenade builds, engineers don’t have significant mid- or long-ranged damage; a mesmer who stays at 300-400 range shattering will beat us almost every time. We also have bad gap closers, so it’s hard to force the mesmer into a melee fight.
Best solution I’ve found so far: maneuver into close range to utilize one of our many knockbacks. Neutralize the point and try to trick the mesmer into going melee. Dodge his blurred frenzy and he’ll be in sword/pistol for the next 7 seconds…it’s difficult, but possible, to take him down.
Mesmers were the hardest profession for me to learn to fight as an engineer. You’ll have to outplay the mesmer significantly to do it, but it is possible.
I kind of disagree with what you say for shatter. The Dmg is high like any other burst class, and condi builds are a little bit more tanky with decent constant damage. But what’s kind of stupid is phantasm builds that take literally no skill.
They have 3 phantasms that do more damage than a full necro minion master army, and are super tanky. if that wasn’t enough they also give mes constant regen and some builds protection every 15 seconds (after nerf) multiple solo combo fields from just throwing stuff down.
I know it’s not balanced around 1v1 but push 3 buttons and win majority of fights vs decent players without trying Is just dumb!
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
If someone gets to the Mesmer (the real one)… 1 2 3 and it’s dead!
So mesmers don’t have dodge? Oh, you don’t have staff 2? Oh you don’t have blurred frenzy? Blink? Shatter 4 invuln (distortion)? Shatter 3 interrupt/daze (diversion)? Oh, you don’t run with Decoy?
Sorry man, I have a mesmer I use for trolling spvp in ezmode lazy status. Saying that all people have to do is get to the mesmer is simply saying you refuse to use any of the MANY built in defense mechanisms the class has, which most other classes could only dream of. Mesmers have the same imbalance as thieves in that regard. Too many ez mode buttons to survive doing dumb things.

^ This. I pretty much only play my Engi and no matter what, mesmers are always the most difficult, unless you can catch them unaware of you and you’re 100 nades and they don’t use blink, then it’s GG. Some classes just have what seems to be a hard counter to them and mesmer is ours. Like someone else stated, it’s their utility that I’m most afraid of in addition to pretty good sustained damage. I don’t necessarily think that they’re OP, just insanely difficult to fight if they’re handled by a good player, because they seem to have an answer for everything you can throw at them. GL OP, the only thing you can do is practice, as there is no instant ‘I win’ combo that guarantees a dead mes, sorry
