Most Unplayable I Have Experienced ATM
are you talking about anet 5 vs 5 hotjoin games starting off as 1 vs 2 while the rest wait for one team to get a lead in points before they join in for the free win ride?
Ppl on these forums are champions at being vague. Its really hard to discuss something if you cant define whats so bad about it … or whats imbalanced … or whats lacking systems or gameplay wise. If i had to summarize your post it would be something like this:
1] This game is bad -> and not explaining why.
2] I play hotjoins and this is why … -> No need to defend yourself. Everyone should play how they want to play.
3] That other game was bad too, but this is even worse -> not explaining why again.
4] Plz help. -> with what?
So please make a summary of things you dislike about the game atm and add some examples to make it easier for people to understand what you mean.

I stated my problem was with hotjoins. Let me tell you that it is ridiculously and blatantly obvious what the problem is. Nothing vague about it friend.
I suggest that you go play ten games. It will explain much better than I ever could.

What is this blatantly obvious problem? I can think of a few but I have no clue which one you are attempting to discuss here.
I had an argument with a player in game, he said I was being elitist by saying he should learn how to play his class in hotjoin and not arena. We went back and fourth, and then he said “you go to hotjoin and tell me its a good place to learn”.
Now I havent been in hotjoin for god knows how long, so I figured well he made a few good points so I should give him the credit of doing as he asked, as I had been the one to say he should go back their.
Went in, 450-10 with 2 players on one team and 5 on the other. This was strange to me as the server browser said the match had 9 players on. Spectators.
Go to a few more, the story is much the same. People wait for a team to show promise and then jump in and plow the other team until only one or two players are left. I checked the specs and it was just nonsense (I am talking thieves with soldiers amulet and 2/3/2/1/2 or something like that, but with no trait choices either, all blank).
So this went on.
I then thought I will try the “Play Now” feature to see if that would get me better results.
First game popped in, and its just started and its 5v5. Woo hoo, seems we got something going.
My team is crushing the other team, and not in a funny way at all. Something is up. So I looked at the other team fighting and a few were clearly new players learning, one thief was putting in a good effort but my team were just on him in seconds, he had no chance.
So I check my team, all 4 beside me are in the same guild. Really, pub stomping, thats a new low.
Next match, ahh back to 5v1.
So yeah, in about an hour of hotjoin, I decided it was dead to me again. Its a complete waste of time. I still think soloQ and teamQ should have a rank requirement, but hotjoin should have a similar set up. Keep the groupings for guilds and stuff, but put them up against other teams. I know of course you can get around it by all joining the same server individually, but if you see a team of one guild just leave. They will get the message in the end. But yeah, I can understand why newer players will just give up. Between getting destroyed in hotjoin, to verbally abused and still stomped in arena, whats left for them.
i’ll keep saying it, we very rarely had this problem with 8v8s, since missing 1-2 people from a team wasn’t as big of an issue.
making hotjoin 5v5 was a stupid idea, i’d wish they’d revert it,
but its anet, so no matter how stupid their actions are, they won’t revert them.

justin told me they wanted players to learn how to play conquest by forcing 5 vs 5 servers. but it seems like players learned how to spectate and force auto balance instead.
and also let games start off as 1 vs 2 until one side racked up the points.
then it all goes south from there.

Thank you for this story DaliIndica; as I said the problem is not subtle.
Yes I agree it has changed since 8v8 went away.
You will never learn how to play tournament games in hotjoin in my opinion. What you can do though is learn how to have fun in hotjoins. I had many many epic moments in 8v8’s even though I knew it wasn’t the meta of the game.
I stated my problem was with hotjoins. Let me tell you that it is ridiculously and blatantly obvious what the problem is.
“Sigh”
There are a lot of possible issues i can mention … which one is it?
1. High ranked players entering hotjoins to faceroll new players.
2. Autobalancing / players picking certain teams
3. Balance related issues.
4. Afkers
5. Flaming and trolling.
6. Having only one gamemode / limited diversity.
7. Lack of a decent tutorial / Hotjoins in general , goals, scoreboards and dailies not teaching ppl to play properly.
7. Lack of other formats (2v2, 3v3, 8v8, 10v10, …).
8. Etc, etc, etc.
Please stop being vague and explain what your issue is …

Locuz,
i think he meant “2. Autobalancing / players picking certain teams” because a trend i have noticed is that, games often start 1 vs 2 and the rest wait for one team to have a lead in the team score before they decide to join.
I suggest that you go play ten games. It will explain much better than I ever could.
Exactly! It’s just lose after lose after lose because you’re always pitched up against 5-man organised team while you’re on the team composed of 1’s and 2’s with no communication.
Plus you’re also always up against OP unkillables (Necros with 500pets & 500million hp, Guard’s with unlimited blocking & immunity etc etc).
This is what my experience of GW2 PvP is…
- Join game
- Look at the scoreboard and realise you’re probably going to lose coz of the enemy team compiled of Guards/Necros/Engineers
- Go capture a base, move onto another one
- Try kill an enemy that’s at the next base, then realise it’s impossible to kill without another 15players assisting you because they’re OP unkillable build and die trying.
- Spawn in the base, check the score to see a 100-150point difference and that you’re losing … again
- Afk and come back now and then to avoid the auto-kick
- Repeat

In hotjoin it is not like that at all… usually it is just 2-players in TS team and best set-ups for that is Mesmer+Thief or Warrior+Ranger but yea there are other and it can happen that you end up fighting a 5-Man TS team though I don’t think so.
But what ruins the games in Hotjoin is not the TS teams it is the Leavers, Switchers and AFKers just becouse you are under with 150 points.
I have been in matches where we are loosing with scores like 60-290 and all cap points had been enemies but I have got away from enemies farming spot and while enemies been farming kills I have taken All cap points while they have been blinded by blood and finally pushed it all around winning the whole match.
This is what I think you should do:
- Solo Cap Your cap (The one closest to your base).
- Team Cap Middle Cap.
- If fight goes well, go Neutralice Far Cap (The one closest to enemy base).
- If fight is over and you have controll try cap Far Cap.
- Far Cap is just a bonus, don’t try to cap it if your team needs help somewhere else.
- If you are loosing and don’t have any cap, don’t fight in the open (If it happens that you can keep the whole enemy team at you alone that is while your team caps, that’s good then).
- if you can’t beat a bunker alone, don’t even try if the cap isn’t yours if so fight as long as possible while keeping the cap yours.
- Don’t ever look at your score and don’t leave, switch or afk(If you don’t have to, for emergancy IRL stuff).
I may be wrong but that is what I have learned by playing Hotjoins to R41 :P
Btw I play Guardian with alot of blocks and Invurnabilities but remember that
Guardians have low HP and let them waste their Condi Cures and they are done for.
MMNecro Meta is easy atleast for my guardian, just kill their healing minion and then they are easy as pie. Though I have heavy problems against Spite and fear Necros (since they are my builds poison) and against my Girlfriends MMPowerNecro build that I have built myself.
Engineers are tricky but most of them is beatable, the only class I find hard to beat Engis with is my Mesmers but I think I loose mostly becouse I go in to close on them, try to kill them with distance if you can.
The trick is to know what classes/Builds your Class/build can win against.
