I completely disagree with the comment that HGH engis are brain dead. It’s the best spec in the game yet it has one of the highest skill caps in the game. Any class can kill an HGH engi if they kitten up, but if you don’t kitten up you can kill any class in the game.

Landing nades, proper cleansing, proper application of condis, proper use of kiting and range, all things that most classes don’t have to deal with. Furthermore it’s a reactionary class, you won’t explicitly determine the outcome of a fight like a thief, warrior or ele. You must understand every other spec in the game to win. Finally, it is a relatively squishy build with only 1 48s CD stun break and an exceptional lack of CC. Still the best though

Couldn’t show it there, but I run Knight’s Gem in the Soldier’s amulet.

Both the might and lifesteal work for your allies as well as you.

I like different builds. As our core thief allrdy tested quite the same build, we saw it didn’t work cuz without any fast burst you won’t kill anything. So for this you need some other burst class. Also this build just work in teamfights. In a 1v1 you’re in a lost state.
Try to roam around with this build and catch an ele. Will never happen cuz conditions won’t kill the ele. Mabye you could name your setup so we get an impression how you fit in it. Like to see that. Thanks

We run 2x bunker guards 1x D/D ele, myself on thief, and a GS warrior. Ele floats between guards and GS warrior and I roam for PK. I fill the role of primary CC for the team.

I do win nearly every 1v1 I just don’t “insta-gib”. My dps isn’t shabby at all due to sword’s natural high auto-attack dps, and my ability to keep protection/regeneration stripped off my target. They pretty much stay locked down from venoms during the fight.

Adenshade there is obviously only ONE way to do things, I’m willing to bet you are talking to guildwars one players who won’t budge from only thinking there is only one viable option and everything else will not work or be viable no matter how often or high end you prove it even if you beat a top 3 team in 3 minutes making them just straight up resign in games that are normally like 10-15 mins.

They probably see it as throwing your thief in the same team build, not a new team build for your thief also.

I must’ve missed the sign that said it was a fire sale.

I am inclined to agree, HGH engi’s can either be extremely easy to kill or extremely hard; I guess thats testament to the skill level of the player on that class.

Well – I didn’t say braindead… But the whole mechanic (use elixiers for might/condi cleaning) feels…odd…

I use the F-skills of elixier which are random and therefore mostly stupid, to gain different things than they were supposed to do.

Also I find it a lot easier to play than a good 2-Kit Engineer.

I agree with you that you have to know every opponents skill to perfectly dodge the spikes and I also agree that you have to play more reactive – but that counts for the whole class Engineer!

At least for me – it’s a boring playstyle as an HGH Engineer (also it is probably the best build currently as an Engineer)

Mesmer – Greatsword got buffed a little bit and time warp got rightfully nerfed.
1 viable build: Shatter with staff or greatsword, whichever you want. There’s a few variations but I don’t like em that much.

I disagree. There is a completely different build in terms of playstyle. Many refer to it as “Phantasms”. Just because Xeph doesn’t play it, doesn’t mean it isn’t viable. Although I would like a buff to Mantras, so that a 3. build can emerge.

We used a phantasm mesmer quite a bit just recently on our team and I don’t think its viable. Just my opinion though. Maybe you could say its viable but its not optimal, you could bring something else in its place that performs the job better.

It can be used for bunkering. I think 80% of the community has their eyes closed when thinking builds…

Also maybe it doesn’t work with your team, but it might be a basis for another.

As an Ele who likes to play balanced to the burst side I am also sad that all main bunker classes got a… “passive buff”. It’d be nice to have the same possibilities as a Mesmer.

So if you don’t mess up you are an unstoppable killing god? Where is the signup button?

That’s pretty much how she works. But messing not messing up is a lot harder on an engi than it sounds. Whiff a shrapnel nade and you’ll probably lose a fight. Don’t dodge bulls charge and even with the frenzy nerf you gonna die a quick and painful death. Get hit by a backstab and you’re kittened.

Very rarely do I use elixirs as an RNG tool. The only times I use them regularly for the RNG is throw S, h/throw H (for swiftness/protection respectively) and throw B for swiftness. It’s honestly not a fire and forget mechanic, because if you fire too much you’re gonna not have swiftness while roaming, not have your heal up while fighting and not have enough condi cleanses. If you don’t fire enough then you have no damage at all!

And the engi isn’t reactive by default. What I mean by reactive is that when I walk up to someone how much will I determine how the fight progresses. As a rifle engi I have multiple forms of CC and burst. As a condi engi, well, all I can do is try to survive what he’s doing and kill him in the process.
