Nah, it’s balanced man. You’re supposed to start a fight against a thief with 10-40% your health, waste your heal skill right at the moment while they spam heartseeker, and then run away while they spam heartseeker. But I heard an extreme bunker build works.
So, you play this game like a rock-paper-scissors game: will you kill me in three seconds, or will you fail and be killed by me in the following three seconds? You know, like a proper rock-paper-scissors game.

you might want to rethink your build a bit. Rangers aren’t great with opening burst as far as I know so you might want to rethink the whole glass cannon approach. Rangers are an amazing 1v1 class but from what I’ve seen they rely more on condition dmg, CC, traps, and kiting. None of which required being a glass cannon.
Don’t buy into the hyperbole that these boards are so fond of either. You’re screen shot is an example of extreme burst, which is very easily countered with some toughness, awareness, and thoughtful building. I’m not saying you need to spec as a bunker either, but you do need to consider your defensive utilities, traits, etc. as much as you do your dmg output. Mitigating the opening burst with thieves is the hardest part of the job and some toughness, protection, and/or CC will go a long ways towards making that happen.
Don’t be discouraged though. Learn from it, adapt, and come back stronger.

actually if done properly you can dodge/counter the backstab burst.
that being said, you have to be willing/able to use a sword or GS properly.
lay a trap around you and stay in the center. if the thief is stupid enough the moment he activates it hit 3 with a sword. you dodge the back stab. immediatly after hit 2 and you’ve slowed him and have put some distance between yourself.
if you can read properly, your dodges can counter his first 6 or so attacks which means most of his initiative is gone and he’s most likely gonna stealth up and reset.
other option is be really tanky dodge the first back stab and with QZ+Sharpening stone Burst him down with conditions, and dmg.

I keep hearing thieves try to sell this dodge/block theory, but I’ve never seen anyone do it successfully when i play my thief.
I only have to sit in shadow Refuge for 2 seconds then I can leave the circle and retain stealth. I get halfway across a map before the stealth runs out so you didn’t see my shadow refuge go off and you have no clue that I’m there. Shadow Refuge is also a pretty large circle and it’s very easy for me to avoid someone wildly swinging a sword.
Even if my stealth ran out my steal re-stealths me, so the only way your gonna avoid a 19k dmg off mug/steal Bs is to be pyschic, Holy crap can you read minds?
I’m also very well aware of every viable ranger build and there all pretty much free kills never had a ranger defeat my thief 1v1 lol and I will prove that to any ranger in dead server duel

I’m saying I do it on my thief and i will prove you cannot counter it, i’ll explain how it’s done and how it can penetrate any lvl of toughness or countering.
All you say is L2P, it’s a very ignorant way to disprove someone using logic when all you do is personally attack someone when i’m saying I play the class and think it’s cheap and unfair. And sorry to burst your bubble but 90% of the players with champion are running radar hack and illegal macro mods. Believe it or not but i know thats true. There names can be clearly seen on tons of macro/mod/hack forum boards.
I think it’s clear to everyone except to several thieves that this profession is poorly balanced at the moment.
This is especially clear when all that can be said to defend the thief is “lol l2p”. I’d have to ask: why should I need to “l2p” after months mastering my elementalist, playing piano with my keyboard to be able to use all my 20 skills, trying to hit with my slow and predictable burst, when a random thief does not needs to “l2p” to do a lot more with a lot less button presses, while he is stealthed to boot?
The backstab/ heartseeker thief is, at the moment, the noob profession – with due respect to the thief pros. It’s extremely easy to get any results with it, and your opponent must play really well to stand a chance. It’s contraditory to demand your opponents to “l2p” when you’re using a cheap build that rarely puts you in such a situation where you must play as well as others to kill anything.
But the thief does NOT need to l2p, except against the really, really good players.
Hope you’re talking about bs, pw and hs thieves (Aswell as HB wars, mind wrack mes and so on) because you actually need to l2p if you run a P\D or a S\D thief…and if you know how to use it you’re FAR more deadly than those bs, pw and hs spam crap…and yes i agree, bs hs and pw are usually played by noobs to faceroll other noobs…nothing new on this point.

and btw…if they didn’t nerf bs maybe it’s because it’s not so op as people think, dazelock was op, hardly counterable even for high rank players and they nerfed it…same for DD dmg (50% maybe was too much but i don’t care, used it for crippling so dmg nerf is not a big issue) ..they decreased bs combo dmg nerfing c&d and you can say what you want but this combo only brings down people from full hp (with no cd) if they are full glass cannons AND they don’t know how to counter a thief…if both conditions are present yes, a bs thief is probably going to kill you…like pretty much everyone else around, thief or not, thief is only going to be faster..

No there not totally faceroll there actually a very underpowered class thats why almost no one in spvp would ever consider playing a thief. And this pic the two highest players didn’t gain those pts because there thieves they just happened to be the best players in the match lol.
