This needs to be changed back to the way it was. This change took one level of depth away from the game. Plus, 20 seconds is way too long. It allows the other team to three cap and spawn camp.

I think the static timer is a great change. If you die now it matters, previously if you timed it right you were straight back into the fight, which was dumb. 20s is very long though, maybe reduce it a little. Still, better than the old system.

i wont pretend to be a tourny pro, i only play the free pug mode, but i am a pvper,
and i do play for FUN.
staring at a loooong countdown timer repeatedly IS NOT FUN.

if i were a pro i’d look at this:
Bunkers are a problem, but they are countered with glass cannons.
With the new “Stare-at-the-Screen-for-Half-the-Game” (lets call it “SatSfHtG”!) addition, alot less people will want to be playing the squishy glass cannon builds, so they’ll all reroll bunkers themselves to avoid the “SatSfHtG”
so the outcome will be an increase in bunkers, and a decrease in their counter.
brace yourselves for 30 minutes of tanks slapping eachother….

I think the new system has more potential than the previous one, however without some tweaks it won’t really work. There needs to be more ways to help a team regroup and get back into the fight earlier. With the ability to grief people in the downstate still it is really easy to stagger timers to greatly delay when a team is able to push again.

Ideally the respawn system should prevent zerg resing a point but allow the losing team to regroup in short order. This just doesn’t work without any control over when you leave downed state and 20s might be too long. These two factors cause this new system to be worse, though if they are addressed it would be a more balanced system.

Not sure I agree with it taking away depth of the game either, it is just reallocating it. Paying attention to res timers when you stomp helps you predict when you will have to expect reinforcements rather than just being used to stagger opponents res times.

This change essentially doubles your spawn time (if you consider a 10s average in the 20s window). I just would love to hear from Mr. Sharp as to why this change was implemented.

EDIT: on this note I saw many times late last night people leaving when they were downed (and knew they were dying) and re-joining because you get a fresh spawn time. Thus, you basically spawn as fast as you can load.

Which brings up another point …. can you leave before the stop and save the 5 points by leaving to the mists and reloading into the game?

And don’t even get me started on the whole “lulz we’re gonna be esports!” when they only a few PvP developers. Apparently they only have one person doing the programming for the entirety of sPvP. /facepalm

Me and my team absolutely love this change, makes our games much easier.

If a downed player tries to rez, we keep them down until they realise what we do, if they want to die naturally we let them, keeps them out of the game longer. of course bads will complain though because they can’t work a situation to their advantage.

Try not to die as much, maybe you wont have a problem

The change has made timewarp, quickness classes, and insta gib thieves very very very good to say the least, at least until the meta changes to tanky dps which I believe it will.

Hardcore players complaining about something that they abuse and casuals have a hard time with… Why wouldnt you want to make the game slightly more casual friendly? Right now casuals wont go into paids because the skill disparity of someone whos fulltime job is gw2 is too high. You guys roll triple guard and are blatant abusers of whatevers broken at the time and push the casual players to quit. Look where we are, you cant paid outside of primetime.
Its time to start catering more to casuals because there will be no more pops if we dont get casuals back.
This is coming from someone who sat on top 50 in north america in sc2. Most of us can handle rez time stomps, but we shouldnt have to be forced to to compete.

(Slightly off topic, and hence parenthetical — I would love to see a charted breakdown of normalized damage across different abilities -- i.e. ground targeted/aim based, AI-based, auto-aim-based, etc. — to see whether skill shots are actually rewarded with more damage. I am confident they are not, just another indication that Arena Net is not focused on skill gap whatsoever.)

Personally I am not opposed to the 20 second respawn timer, but it definitely feels as though I am being punished for getting in front of a zerg when I really need to hold a point. Zerg comes around and wipes the points clean then caps. 20 second respawn for me. I could run when I see 4 coming but low mobility classes suffer. No skill zerg groups suddenly became viable with max respawn.

If they are wanting to discourage the zerg mentality but still have some sort of balance and consequence why not change how the respawn timer works.

Here’s a couple of ideas that may be terrible or may work out great, so feel free to respond or completely ignore my ideas below.

1. Have the 20 second clock start the second you are downed instead of after you are dead. So if you manage to survive for 15 seconds in the downed state before getting finished off you only have 5 seconds remaining before respawn.

2. Have the clock start at 0 seconds once you are downed and the longer you stay in the downed state the higher your respawn timer goes. You stay downed for 20 seconds you’ll have a respawn of 20 seconds.

I have a real problem with people claiming to be top tier when there is no ranking and no one is actually playing the pvp side of the game yet.

I want a ranking system soooooo bad to get the WoW arena players comming to this game.

Anet, these are not top players they are farming a empty pvp system pulling from a low population. Get ranked systems for teams like WoW arena FAST.

You will get complaints for your current ‘top’ players when you try to add more skill to the game and tactics. They are the defualt farmers that really dont want challange when the real tactical pvpers that look for challange come you will not see these fellows currently in the top anymore.

Agree 100% with OP, new rez-timers don’t really introduce any benefits to tournament play, and takes away some of the more exciting aspects of the on-the-fly decisions as Jumper mentioned.

Honestly, I don’t really know why they changed the rez-mechanics of the game. I agree with the devs testing stuff out, as long as they also remain aware when some of their experiments don’t pan out in a way, where they improve the overall pvp game. And in this regard wont refrain from bringing the old system back.
