Why is it so hard to find information about the PAX Invitational Finals? All I can find is one news post from two weeks ago. If you want people to show interest in this format, make the appearance that you as a company are interested as well. I’ve had to dig and was only able to find the most basic of information on the Mist League site, as well as this forum’s sticky. Call it an Invitational if you will, but this event is the closest to a World Championship that we’ve seen and should be treated like a big deal; information should be easily visible from more places on the GW2 website. The sticky in this forum should be updated with detailed information about date, time (can’t find this anywhere), location (only mentioned once in the news post). Less than a month out, surely you’ve had to finalize times with the hotel you’re renting the space from?
Are there going to be more than the NA and EU winners at the PAX tournament? It’s disingenuous to call a best of 5 finals a separate tournament if these are the only teams competing.
Finally, why is this tournament being held at an off-site location, half a mile away from PAX? If you want to drum up interest, you do that by holding the finals at the main event, not tucked away in some corner where no one will see it. I’m attending PAX and would loved to have watched the finals live; watching a restream from the ArenaNet booth (assuming that restream exists, and it’d be extremely foolish for it not to) isn’t nearly as compelling or exciting — there is a ton of stuff to see at PAX and a better use of all the attendees’ time than watching something they can catch a VOD of later.
I’d really like to see sPvP succeed in the eSports arena, but things like this – lack of information and visibility – make it seem like ArenaNet isn’t putting the proper time or resources to take it seriously. Some of these issues are minor and would require minimal money and time investments (how many press releases have been sent out to gaming sites?) while others may be indicative of a lacking budget for advertising and events (with a $10k prize pool this seems likely). Regardless, if ArenaNet wants us to care they need to treat this event like a big deal.
