Q:
Paid tournement: Queue without a team?
A:
It needs to be possible. I do not have the time or patience to join a team, and some of the people in this thread do not realize how barren most Mist environments are. Requesting a team in Map chat is not as quick and easy compared to servers like Anvil Rock.
The “competitive scene” in this game will always be small and continue to diminish if people do not want to see more people, solo players or not, included in that environment.
they definitely MUST MAKE IT POSSIBLE
I hope it will never be possible, if you want to play solo, there are hotjoins and free tournaments, leave paids to organized teams.

If I cannot have a premade team running 365 days every night because I have a social life, I should be able as well to join the competitive scene, and not only be restricted to hot join and free tournies.
Adding the option to enter as solo/duo queue is also healthy, and it will be of course at your own risk, but there should be the option.
NONE should be restricted to play only hot join/frees just because they don´t have a daily team running.
/map randomclass rank whatever lfg paids

Look for a group in map-chat. Paid-Tournament belongs to organized team. Most of the teams in paid are allrdy not competitive enough. Don’t want to see this mode to get even less competitive. So if you wanna play, go free as ppl said.
Again no.
And no because if there are no people online in the mists or there is no people going to organize paid tournament, I shouldnt be restricted to play paid at that time.
And no, because if every team asks to be in teamspeak raidcall or whatever voice programm and I don´t want to play the game having to do that, I shouldn´t be forced into it and relegated from paid.
The fact pvp is not enough competitive is very wise and not only just because of 1v1 paid tournaments. It is also because of the very little population which could be mproved by part by doing this I mentioned above
I’m really sorry to say that but then it’s the false game for you. Allrdy in GW1 to be competitive enough you had to have a voice-chat. I don’t wanna say ppl that haven’t much time to spend into GW2, shouldn’t be able to play on a competitive platform, but this is how it goes in every game. And I actually don’t wanna play against a random team as in free-tournaments. I prefer hard matches instead of free wins.
also, you say you want to be in the “competitive scene”, and you want to do that by solo queing and playing with random people without voice comms or any strategy of whatever…it makes no sense.
This just sounds like someone whining “I want to farm copper chests for the l33t skinZ but I’m too lazy to find a group”.

And then again, I´m really sorry to tell you that you are wrong.
Voice chat was not needed to win hall of heroes, neither a gvg top match.
Voce chat was not needed to win 60+ games in random / team arenas. And I say this because I have the personal experience from it, since I was Glad 9 Champ 2 in old gw1.
In league of legends you don´t need a voice chat to be competitive in high elo solo queue.
In Guild Wars 2 you don´t need voice chat to win free & paid tournaments, as I from personal experience have done multiple times before.
For “Hard Matches” you´ll get matchmaking / monthly tournaments. So, there should be an spot for everything.
Synthesizing: There needs to be an option to enter paid tournament on your own if you feel you want to, since it is at your own risk, it does not damages anyone and enriches the game experience and options for casual and hardcore gamers.
Remember not everyone can hold a fixed daily timeframe to train with a team because of social life, and that should not be an excuse to get him out of the fun part of PvP.

The game is flawed, it’s not simply “not for me”. I understand you want to a challenge, but the issue is more that the game should provide a competitive environment for “all” players. Without providing that environment the population playing the pvp will never increase, unless you and the people who posted above are content with how small the competitive environment in the game is at the moment.
I have played a number of games (not MMOs) that provide provide proper rankings that makes solo play both fun and competitive, so that really is not how it is in every game. Unless you expect new players/teams to enter the current system and automatically provide a challenge for you as the game is now, I do not see why anyone would be against the possibility of a feasible system for solo players to queue in paids.
The only alternative is that the competitive environment remains unwelcoming to new players and the competitive environment will never grow as a result.

Show me a “match” between your guild and a another top guild where no voice-chat was used? ye you can sync. There you didn’t need it.Voce chat was not needed to win 60+ games in random / team arenas.
There you have it. “Random”. And don’t compare TA to paid. Because you play a deathmatch, not a tactical high pvp-mode.And I say this because I have the personal experience from it, since I was Glad 9 Champ 2 in old gw1.
Glad-Rank compare with Rank in GW2. as hotjoin farming. In league of legends you don´t need a voice chat to be competitive in high elo solo queue.

Sorry, but I hope smn close this thread. It’s an absolute nonesense.
It has lot of sense, and it is a very important petition which would make pvp community happier than before.
If you cannot discuss with arguments, you are giving us the reason that we need this option to become available in paid tournaments.
Unfortunately for you, the discussion right now is under the rules, so no moderator is going to close the thread, unless they decide to move into suggestions “subforum”.
first of all just to be sure:
competitve scene = “proplaying”
in gw1 you didnt need voice chat if u ran iway of lame stuff. i would have seen you playing some spike build with no voice chat.
RA, TA were not in competitive scene.
gvg you needed voice chat to play properly.
then lol, competitive scene of lol is tournaments. i would like to see you joining a tourney with a team with no cvoice chat.
as the guy above me said, this thread is absolute nonsense

You are very wrong in your statement,
competitive scene is not “Proplaying”, a competitive scene can be considered any competitive environment regardless if the player who plays is pro or not.
Some of the best players in games aren´t even professional, so, no.
like there is solo join in free tournament, there should be the possibility to do the same in paid.

honestly. do you feel you only speak the truth or everyone else can have their opinion even if different from yours?
just this.
The success of temple paids among casuals just shows how much the game needs a single match, competitive solo queue. It doesn’t have to be in the same pool as premade vs premade paid tournaments. It doesn’t even have to be paid, although that would be cool.
What needs to be done is 1 round free tournaments i believe. These are really taking too long to pop these days and i believe it’s a pure time wasting when you finally end up being 3v5..
I do believe the topic was made because paid tournaments are more active, because of 1 round tournaments. Otherwise, you can’t really be " competitive " with a random team against premade teams
The problem here is that you want to play without a voice system just play with ppl that let you do XD , of course if you find it.
I see how ppl cry about casual community need to be helped and hardcore players accept and some of they try to help.
But now hardcore players get bored and lose competition, what is the response of casual players on the forums? do it more casual even if hardcore players get bored and quite. Jesus a ppl still saying thinks like nolifer, elitist and arrogant.
Come on we need did if for all and its easy, ladder, and separate queues.
Now I know what people who talk about the bad community of lol try to say.

A misunderstanding—people who talk about adding features for casuals are trying to think of ways to increase the PvP population. If we were rank 5 baddies who just wanted everything in the game to be catered to our casual level, we wouldn’t be spending time in the forums.
The problem is that rank 5 baddies aren’t having fun, so they’re leaving. Right now, with 1 team vs 1 team, casuals are coming back. Ergo, it would be a good idea to have a 1 team vs 1 team option for casuals.
The issue here is alot of servers have empty HOTm.
This is somewhat mitigated by being able to guest to anvil rock or desolution if you are EU.

You are right but I refer to so much hate post to try to insult to hardcore players and said that their opinion shouldn’t count, really I don’t see that kind of post so often but you can see ppl who think that what they said is always truth, of course that’s not the usually here but I’m just afraid of that become normal here.
But of course 1vs1 is perfect and it pop all day, I think ppl must understand the opinion of the rest, and its obvious that 1 vs 1 team give some hope for the population of the pvp and in my opinion with the usually duration of 1vs1 mach can be possibly remove hotjoin and get 1vs1 free as normal mach for new ppl to improve with one simple matchmaking with rank (I know it don’t represent nothing but just let ppl with rank 5 learn) but there still be a problem when some more experienced players must go some time for free because they need tickets.
i think that anet should be make something for allow ppl to play competitive stuff with solo or duo queue, is not a bad idea there is a lot of ppl that have life, cannot play during the night etc etc..
hotjoin is BORING and queue frees solo or more (not team) should be cool for short time so ppl can’t enjoy the game
maybe other mode, with other “point” if u want qualify point only for pro teams, ok no problem, make something new like “donkey point” but atm is frustrating for ppl that wanna something of competitive but dont have (or cannot have) team
i saw enough topic ppl who asking that, ppl who wanna duelling etc etc… anet should give a solution for all that ppl, no excuse…

you know, the only difference between what you said and a solo queue feature is that with a solo queue, arranging a team is much faster. do you think people saying and getting a group spamming “randomclass rank whatever lfg paids” will use voice comms? they will use as much strategy as they would in a solo queue, they will chat before the match about it.
its so funy, you suggest we look for random people in /map and then criticise those of us who want a solo queue for wanting to play with random people (who wouldnt be random cuz matchmaking).
Edit: i don’t have the time to look for 4 people to play with me on a regular basis, so i will end up playing with random people anyway, wich is pretty much the same as a solo queue with matchmaking system would do. and to people complaining that they wanna have difficult matches and not just stomp the other team: MATCHMAKING, you stomp, you improve your rating and never have to face that team you stomped ever again, problema solved, please tell me more problems of a solo queue if you can find any
(edited by ahuba.6430)
there is a pretty big difference between solo queing (and ending up with an unbalanced setup, like 3 thieves 2 mesmers), and spending 5 minutes in Anvil Rock/Desolation HotM forming a balanced group (guess what, they added guesting feature!)
you don’t have the time to find a group? solo queue for frees or play hotjoin, they will be “competitive” enough.

no they wont, no matchmaking, no rating to know if you’re actually improving or not, no motivation to play for casual players who play at 2/3 hours at weekends.
unbalanced setup? its not like you can change professions after you see your comp, guess what you can!
please no leave paids to be competitive other wise good teams are stuck playing pugs for the off chance to fight a real team like it is right now in this week

Hotjoin is a crap, mindless zerg. I would like to see Solo Tournament Queue (free and paid).
Why not change it to how blizzard diwith bgs. 1 pool for random people and 1 for premades and just separa them.
And after that add matchmaking(separate pools should be easier/faster to add i think.
Gosh darn phone made this typing experiance rage worthy
With guesting you can now go to Anvil rock and form a group as if it was Team Arena’s bro.
This hatred to Hotjoin is so pointless its not funny.
Just because you join by yourself instead of selecting a room from a list doesn’t inherently mean jack. As evident from the RA vs TA of the past.
I fail to see how this would make Paid less competitive. The fact that it’s paid means there is an inherent barrier to entry and the fact that it adds more people to the Paid pool means it adds to the competition. Free tournament anyone can play in. Paid tournaments are 5 tickets per person which means they are either playing/winning free tournaments, doing lots of dailies, or spending lots of money on tickets. The people that are grinding out dailies and tournaments to get into the Paid tournaments and solo queueing are likely:
A) Decent, but lacking a group
B) Looking for improvement/greater challenges
Having people solo/duo queue in Paid offers people a chance to meet new players that may be looking to form a group but weren’t able to find players. If someone is dedicated enough to grind dailies and free tournaments to meet better players and improve in a paid tournament then they should be able to.

Bad experience both ways.
First off these pugs, if they run into decent premades will get stomped.
Secondly, if these premades run into pugs it will be boring match where they wont learn anything.
without a matchmaking system , at least require paids to have a team.

Just to clarify, Paid also has no match making system? It’s just a complete RNG? If that’s the case, I think this is a good idea once that gets released. But to be frank, if it’s a match making problem then a 5-stack could get just as screwed over in that scenario as a group of solos.
Since paid has no matchmaking they have to introduce solo queue entering paid tournament.
But even with matchmaking there should be spot for solo queue.

This week excepted, the teams that tended to Q for paids where , on average, competent teams. But yes, matching making would be nice even in paids.
Free tournaments should be setup with a solo and duo queue system. While Paid tournaments should be left for Custom built groups.
They should have a separate Ranking system for both Paid and Free tournaments. I think this type of separation would allow them to manage the ranking system easier with them being separate. It would also allow them to open the SPvP system so they could have all worlds participate together in tournaments.
I don’t see a point in having the SPvP being separated between worlds anyways. Why the heck would you want to split up your user base like that? Who cares if I’m the best on my server! I want to be the best between all servers!
Edit: If you leave in the middle of a match the person who left should not be able to get into a new game till the old ones over but should be able to get into the old game again.
(edited by Earthacis.3862)
Before they implement this, they need to have matchmaking in place. If they did, the paid system will still be competitive. Other then that i agree because I know more people would que if there was no team required.
“Best Guardian NA”
Of course matchmaking is one of the multiple things this pvp needs, like other modes, hall of heroes, etc…
but being able to solo queue paid tournaments is important, if possible just face another people in solo queue as well, and match them via rank.
