So today i went to craft some more ascended armour, and thought i might aswell do it through the PvP system as i have lots of Ascended Shards of Glory. But i noticed that, in my case (i was making Viper’s), it actually cost more to make 3 Grandmaster Tailor’s Marks, than to make the full piece through the normal system?

Surely this cannot be intended? Why on earth would we use Ascended Shards of Glory AND a higher cost for ascended armour that doesnt even have an exclusive skin?

Perhaps 3 Grandmaster Marks is too high?

EDIT: chest/leg pieces actually require 4 Grandmaster Marks. Which in the case of light viper’s makes the PvP set more than 30G more expensive than PvE crafted.

What is it, 115 gold + 400 shards to make a chest piece, 75 gold to make it normally? 70 gold + 400 shards if you do the daily crafting mats over the course of 8 days?

Yeah it doesn’t make sense. Why waste money crafting Grandmaster marks? The same problem exists in WvW and fractals as I understand it…

Maybe it’s because you can upgrade them to legendary status?

So the ascended legs take 77G 22S to make using normal crafting. And the Grandmaster Tailors Mark cost 27G 09S each. So even without the PvP parts its more expensive.

Both of these are if you buy the ascended mats.

It is even worse than i thought. You actually need 4 marks to make the leg piece.

This is the only reason to craft ascended PvP gear.
Same goes for the T2 ascended WvW gear. The difference is that you can get a T3 WvW ascended set that doesnt use marks but require a really high rank.

Would be nice if PvP got a T3 set that doesnt need marks, with some shinning effect to differentiate from T2 and maybe related to tournaments rewards and/or PvP rank…

I would like it if winning daily tournaments rewarded marks so you can skip crafting them. I think winning monthlies already awards you with the ascended pvp armors.

In the current economic state, you can just about afford 1 mark each time you loop Byzantine. Marks are not unreasonable.

I do feel like 3 marks is a bit much for the weakest three armor slots, but considering it’s basically “free” endgame armor with any stat choice I have a hard time complaining about accessibility. I had to work much harder for my original PvE ascended set.

This doesn’t make any sense.

The whole point of this post is that it costs quite a bit more than the PvE equivalent. For both you need a maxed craft, and the ascended materials, which cost more for the PvP version. You then have the required ascended Shards of Glory on top.

I’m not attempting to say it should be more accessible. Only that the costs across gamemodes should be more comparable than they are. Reducing from 4 to 3 marks for leg/chest pieces would achieve this.

Let’s put aside for a minute that you completely missed the part where you can select any current stat set on acquisition, which bypasses a lot of grind. (And I’m willing to ignore the legendary upgrade thing for now since that was not by original design.)

A quick check of a few ascended pve chestpeices’ material costs shows that:
1. They hover around 70-80 gold, with leather being the most expensive.
2. They require some small measure of grind for vision crystal components.
3. There is some variation of cost due to insignia material’s prices.

Grandmaster marks:
1. Hover right around 16-20 gold, with metal being the most expensive.
2. Don’t require any more grind than the base need to craft them, AND are currently a non-farmable reward for pvp.
3. There is no tangible variation in cost.

So there’s a fundamental problem here in what you’re saying; if we’re on the same page here, there really isn’t that huge a difference in cost from what I can tell. MAYBE this is because the wiki base cost calculates absolute base cost, beyond the usual price jump caused by the time-gated crafts, but both crafting recipes have time-gated costs and comparing luxuries is a weak argument.

Finally, realistic pricing(rounded to nearest gold):
Tailor: 19*4 = 76 gold, 4 gold more than the armor
Leather: 17*4 = 68 gold, 15 less than the armor
Armorsmith: 21*4 = 84 gold, 10 gold more than the armor

I don’t really feel like doing this number-hunting for the legs. I will admit the difference will be a bit greater(7+ g for at least light legs, at a quick glance), but you seem insistent that both chest and legs need adjustment.

… That’s it? This is what you’re taking issue with? Given how suddenly the economy can change, I’d say this is some really fine calculation on Anet’s part. If you think 14 gold(taking vendor into account) is “quite a bit more” then I have to admit, I’m not terribly sure how you’re getting the gold to begin with.

Maybe legs should be adjusted to 3, but based on stats I think both the marks and base crafting recipes for shoulders/hands/feet should be reexamined.

I don’t really feel like sitting here all day chasing down numbers. The short of it is though, it’s absurd to think of these recipes in a vacuum. I disagree with anet’s game economy choices a lot, but the economy can’t be ignored when making statements like how something should cost less.
