PvP, rewards, and you

There are plenty of ways to bring pvers to pvp:
- Gold
- Laurels
- Unique skins
- Gems
- Black Lion Key rewarded for… something (3 round tourney? daily?)
Will we ever see it happen? Maybe after current PvP community completely dies off and they’ld have to bring in people from PvE to keep PvP alive. (Who needs PvP developers if no one plays PvP?)
because gratitude is a burden and revenge a pleasure.”
I think they need to do something with the reward system, because rank-based armor is not satisfactory. It’s not exactly a goal one can strive for when it takes literally months and months of hardcore grinding every day to achieve it. The game has been out for 7 months, and the highest ranking is only like 63. Well, they have only 13 ranks to go, right? Technically the first 60 ranks are half the required rank points for 80, since it’s exponential.
So, in other words, after 7 months, no one is even close to rank 80. I myself really like the Flame Legion and Twilight Arbor armors, but it’ll be months before I can get them. It’s not going to keep me playing like a week-term or month-term goal would.
I don’t think they should remove the rank grind, since that’s fairly neat. They should just not base armor rewards or any rewards besides finishers and /rank off of it.
Some ideas:
-PvE Gold
-Gems
-Progression in WvWvW (like, 100k glory cost in order to get a full level 80 exotic set you can use in WvWvW, but through Heart of the Mists and on a level 2 character)
-Unique sPvP Skins
-Much more guild influence (you get like 5 per map, oh boy)
-Legendary skins for monthly/yearly tournaments
They could also try and convert their GW1 system over as well, like you said with the chests.

No.
Except the daily thing. Should award rank points instead of silly boosters that no-one needs because they already have 200.
- Unique skins
This x 1000.
Seriously wtf, the progression of rank points is a little absurd at 40-50 and it’s all just for skins from PvE that take less than a sliver of the effort to get in PvE. Getting flame legion gear in PvP requires rank 50 which takes months of nonstop grinding, meanwhile in PvE land you can get the same set in just a few days of dungeon running. Seems totally fair right?
And from the few insane souls that have pushed to 60, have discovered that at that level you get random T1 cultural. I’m sure they feel well rewarded, 6000+ games played for an armor set that takes about 10g to buy in PvE, outstanding.
Actually there’s only one soul in the world at 60+. And he’s pushing to r70 now.

10g for Tier 1? Not even. The pieces cost like 10-40 silver each. Assuming each piece is 40 silver, of which I know for a fact they’re much lower, that’s a maximum of 2.4 gold for a full set. You can get 2.4 gold in like, 30-60 minutes.
Yet it requires half a dozen thousand hours in sPvP to acquire.

I know there’s one on EU, and there is one I know of on NA so there’s at least two in the world.

People like this in pve have 2 or 3 legendaries by now.
Why does it suck to pvp?
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all.
It’s not working because you get more rank-points in hot-join then in tournaments. So the real pvp-players are below the rank of a no-life hotjoin farmer. This makes not any sense to me and results in the fact that rank is meaningless in this game.
kittened up from the beginning.
I dont need any rewards or rank point gain, i play bc its fun.
For many ppl it’s a big issue to achieve something and get rewarded for it. That’s why 99% of the old top-players from HA and GvG left this game. Where in GW1, rank-emotes and gold-capes were something special, here there’s everything accessable for every player.
I could not agree more. It is an absolute joke. I’m stuck in the 30s and haven’t had any new armor or weapons for like a month or so cos I got the wolf ranked armor when I hit 30. If I spent the same amount of time in pve I’d prob have a legendary by now and any kitten armor I feel like wearing..

Most likely. By the time you hit 50, you could probably farm 3-5 legendaries in PvE.

According to the wiki, C L I K still needs to play 52800+ matches before he can unlock the last title. That is, if he gets 250 points or more in every match.
So the points you need to unlock the 3rd last title are only about a 1/14 of the points you need to unlock the last title.(Since the win bonus from each match does not count towards the achievement, you’ll need to be acquire all of these “win match” points after you reach rank 80 before you can unlock the title).
You gotta remember that there are 9 titles too. (Rank 90)?

As PvP stands right now it is non-rewarding. Why such a thing as the Zaishen Chest is not implemented, I do not comprehend.
It seems to be a huge (and completely failed) part of Anet’s philosophy to strictly apart different currencies. (Like Karma to Gold, Karma to Glory et cetera.)
I consider myself being a PvP player, but I need as many others more “real” rewards.
cosmetic effects are not everything for dwayna’s sake
Making /rank available in GW2 was definately one of the better choices and I am sure that the responsible devs will soon realize that Anet’s previous game philosophy regarding these issues were at least a million times better. So what do I suggest?
1. Better Dailies.
2. Optainable Keys (yes…just as GW1) to open chest where literally EVERYTHING could drop out of.
3. The ability to wear any cosmetic armor piece that you actually own on your PvE characters. I mean why am I forced to play a newbish-looking character when I palyed thousands of hours of PvE?
4. Improving the art style of /rank? I double dare anybody to go back to their GW1 account to /rank or /fame. Man… those were all absolutely awesome… Now I am dropping a flag out of absolutely nowhere hmmm… maybe I have terrible taste
TL;DR
I am to lazy to sum up

I got kind of sad when I realised the unid dyes I was getting from chests where account bound, so I couldn’t sell them. I think there should be some incentives for PvE players to try PvP, but not so much that it becomes a viable way of farming gold. I’d love to get some sort of token after a win, and after getting so many tokens you could buy cosmetic items such as backpacks/ funny weapon and armour skins which you could then also use in PvE
I would really like to see the fancy looking weapons such as Vision of the Mists or the Foefire ones in PvP. Also weapons like Ambrosia, Courage or Flux Matrix for example.
It could be argued that it may be confusing to see them ( e.g. Foefire ones ) on the character and from specific skills, but I think that won’t be an issue for good reasons.
I also want to mention that some high ranked stuff in PvP is easily attainable in PvE through paying a few gold on the Trading Post. Even though they may not have the best stats, there are still Transmutation Stones.
So the accessibility of some weapons and armors in PvP is far off.
P.S.: I actually find nearly all weapons below rank 70 more or less boring, same goes mostly for any armor below rank 80 too. I doubt I am the only one who thinks that. The really interesting stuff comes higher rank.

cosmetic effects are not everything for dwayna’s sake
In PvP respect is essential, there’s no two ways about it.
We have no tournaments, the winners of which would have their names engraved on the wall of champions (why is that even there? is there some big beta tournament they forgot to tell us about?).
So, what’s left? How does a seasoned bear differentiate himself from some nobody rabbit? Cosmetic effects are the only remaining difference between bears and rabbits, and even that is diminished to some degree with the easy access to paid tournament tokens.
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all.
Crazy idea maybe but I would take the ranks out of the game and set items at a set amount of glory. If you have enough glory you can but it. Rarer armor like T3 Cultural should be at a high amount for example.
There better be some skins from ladder too. Or any challenging achievement in case we should get them.
P.S.: Even Clik approves of this.
Edit: Give us some rewards for rank though.

I’m really loving pvp and tournaments along with testing new builds. But I also like to do WvW! So whu can’t I gain money, exp through PvP? What exactly is the reason of not having it? All I can see is that more people would play PvP instead of PvE.
-Back slot item that “grows” every 10 ranks, similar to the Fractal Capacitor. As an example, at rabbit its just a single skull hanging on a piece of string. Then it becomes a couple of skulls on a chain at deer. Then one large yak skull and few smaller ones at dolyak rank. Then they are covered in blood at wolf. Then they are flaming or ghostly at tiger. Pretty much something thats always visible, really distinguishable and when someone sees you they instantly know “ kitten , that guy is tiger/bear/shark rank”. I think by the high ranks players have more than earned something like it, since PvE players would have a legendary with similar time played.
-Endless Finisher tokens.
-Unique tonics (e.g. svanir/chieftan)
-Unique Minipets
-Unique weapon/armor skins.
-Purchaseable armor instead of tying it to rank brackets, as suggested above.
-Zaishen Chest as suggested above.
As far as I know, at the beginning of 2013 Anet announced some drastic changes and improvements to PvP in March/April ?!
One can only hope to get something so heaviliy demanded as seen here… While I for myself hope for additional game modes
Just imagine a 5 vs 5 Death Match Arena where you get higher rewards for every consecutive win. Mabye 3vs 3 would be even better since there is no dedicated healer.
Of course there would be a VERY strict seperation of premade teams and randoms.
I swear I would start to cry if Anet would implement this kind of Arena like in GW1… I played nothing else for at least 4 years of my 5 1/2 year GW1 career.

click is not the only one…there are at least 3 more….maybe others i didn’t see yet, cause they’re farming hotzerg all day, obviously..
r70? Jesus!! I consider myself to be quite a PvPer (r40 atm), but it would take over 4 years to get to r70. The scaling is just insane. Before I get to rank 70, there will be GW3.
WTB some massive glory boosts to get some motivation. Goals should be achievable.
