Solo PVP 1> thief equals insta loss
This is true when the thieves are bad (mechanically and with rotations). Most thieves want to go be 1v1 heroes, rather than playing a team role.
It works out just fine if they are smart. If both thieves on a team stick together, they can win their team the match by just bursting down targets and 1-shotting them, especially in soloQ. However, that would take the two coordinating on a basic level, and not just trying to be a hero.

Norn Guardian – Aurora Lustyr (Lv 80)
Mia A Shadows Glow – Human Thief (Lv 80)
While I wouldn’t go so far as to say that it’s an instant loss, I do agree that thieves don’t seem to stack as well as most classes. But, you never really want a team that’s full of just 1 class anyways. =P
TBH it is completely random… Sometimes you’ll win because of very good thieves, sometimes you won’t. It’s better to TPVP by yourself or with a team then at least you learn what to do or why you lost.
Am I the only one who understood exactly the contrary (“less than one thief equals to insta loss”) because of “1>thief”?
I bet you havent play with double mesmer comp – it’s 120% loss

regarding mesmers, nowadays, it is a bit different in hotjoin though.
if a hotjoin team have some good mesmers, that team tend to have an advantage.
it does seems like the average hotjoiner have trouble dealing with good mesmers.
Yeh more to do with one thief going far and losing, repeatedly.

Not if the opposite team has 2+ squishies. If they have 1 power ranger and 1 mesmer, those 2 will just die instantly because of the thieves.
I agree that against 3 engi teams , double thief will always be a loss. But that’s because engineers are balanced ( sarcasm).

This right here^^^ in soloq with no one really helps each other out to much thiefs can just burst down targets really quickly. Even just spamming daze on a engi while your team makes kill him is a freaking pain, Caed is one of the few that always does it.

Played one game vs sizer+collero. They were like storm and thunder. We had no chance.
Played with my engi and 4 thiefs in soloQ. We won the game because the thiefs jumped like mokeys on every target and killed it at no time.
2+ thiefs are not bad if the thiefs are good
Average player on a bunker/celestial class > average player on thief
Also the D/D Thieves with dual incinerator and t3 cultural armor who come from WvW looking to pwn
Those are the two main reasons for this phenomena
theives and mesmers own khylo. if they are halfway decent they will be out rotating the kitten out of you and probably dropping you before you can even make it onto a point, unless you blow all your cd then your dead anyway

You’re not alone.

Yeah it’s really just good players vs bad players. People put way too much emphasis on classes in soloQ.
OP, sounds like you get in teams with bad thieves. Doesn’t make all thieves bad.
There will always be team compositions in random that are less ideal than others; 2 Mesmers, 2 Thieves, 2 Bunker-Guardians etc. etc. or simply full teams of squishy dps (just had a S/F Ele, 2x Thief, 1x Mesmer and me) or full Bunker/Support without enough decap potentional. Though in SoloQ bad players lose the game more than set-ups in my experience. Like thieves at ~450 points realizing they really can’t beat that person on far.
All you can do is make sure you cover some opposites and relog when it benefits your team. Though I think this isn’t possible anymore after the next update which is aimed at fixing the problem completely.
as a thief i hate when i see another thief in my team . . .
i always switch to engi but this wont be possible now lol
