Why is it that we need SOTG to actually achieve any sort of transparency between the developers and the players ?

Why is it that when you reply to questions you cannot give a straightforward answer?

There is no chance that you’ll get time to ask all of these questions but honestly the GW2 Devs should be making it their priority to communicate with the people who play their game. Answer their questions on the forums – and no I don’t mean one response per 100 threads.

2h weapons have higher base damage than 1h ones, the tradeoff is losing one sigil slot.

With the recent changes to Illusionists Celerity (reduces cooldown on Illusion summoning skills by 20%) from a 5 point minor to a 25 point minor in the “Illusion” tree, many mesmers have felt that the recent patch has resulted in a net reduction of viable builds, as opposed to the stated intent of increasing viable builds.
One of the reasons is that Illusionists Celerity reduces the cooldown of offensive phantasms such as the Berserker, Duelist, Swordsman, as well as defensive Illusion summoning skills, such as Decoy, Phantasmal Disenchanter and Phantasmal Defender.

Will we see any mesmer changes in the future that would allow players to reduce the cooldown of Decoy, Disenchanter and Defender without having to invest 25 points into the Illusion tree?

Are there plans to further separate sPvP skills from WvW? Recent changes to skills and utilities have made some professions/specs that were already extremely difficult to kill in WvW basically impossible to kill in WvW. Without changes to segregate the behavior of these abilities, I fear that parts of parts of WvW, just as world roaming, are no longer viable to many professions.

What reason is there for making the elementalist have the lowest HP, lowest Armor and lowest damage?

What purpose to the elementalist serve in the game? right most classes are better than them in everything while having advantages listed above, how is that fair.

it takes 5 action more on average to achieve the same results as other classes, is that fair?

Is dragon tooth and water scepter skills ever going to be fixed?

1. Why were the Warrior healing change proposals nixed? Warrior heals definitely need some tweaking.

2. What was the reasoning for Dhuum Fire being placed in the Necromancer Power trait line? Close to Death is still a better choice for Powermancers, but every Conditionmancer wants burning, so now everyone is running a build with massive condition damage.

3. Any ETA on better PvP rewards/incentives, and more ways to spend Glory? I’m sure you’re well aware, Glory has no importance right now. There is almost no incentive in PvP currently.

Probably too late to ask … but do they plan on allowing thieves to viably play condition builds … or are we going to be pigeonholed into burn them down as stupidly fast as possible? -.-

Condition isn’t a thing for thief. It’s considered a stupid troll build, worthless trash … pointless. And it really is compared to burst damage. I can die just as fast with 300 bonus toughness, 19.5k health, as I do with 17.5k or even 16k health, to a burst thief. And do I have any benefit? No … I kill turrets slower, treb, walls … etc. Condis just get cleansed off insanely easy, so skills like Deathblossom are a kittened joke at best.

Oh, 3000 damage bleed over 11 seconds (10% condi duration) ! Thousands of bleed damage … oh … nevermind, cleansed off immediately! Oh darn, I tried it against an Engineer … he simply converted all my bleeds to ridiculous length regeneration. Too bad I’m playing D/D and not S/D, I could at least take that regeneration and not hate life as a condi thief.

“Build Diversity” does not exist in this game. So yeah, I’d love to know if thieves might ever have a chance to actually be condition based without being considered a worthless troll build.

Weapon base damage is meaningless when all skills have their on damage coeficients and are always modified accordingly and individually; even if given the case, the trade off is too harsh considering there are lots of two handers that have vastly different functionalities… but… fine… it’s…

Hey thanks for all the input everyone! I really did read every post and tried to get everything in. I shared my notes and everything went pretty well!

Grouch accidentally had the stream on a delay, so I was getting a lot of feedback from people but it was too late for me to address, and I wanted to keep my initial answers kind of short since we were low on time.

I can’t say it didn’t happen, but no single damage skill does enough damage to take down a necro.

The Phoenix movemenet speed change was needed, though. It should be easier to dodge, if you notice the change to fire attunement and knowing that an ele will be waiting for a time to launch it. It is faster now, but not fast enough to not avoid it, if it is cast from a distance. If cast from melee range it will be tough to dodge, but if you keep running unpredictably, it might not hit you properly for full damage.

Interesting talk though.

P.S. I need to stick up for the ele, haha.

it is indeed possible to kill a necro with 0 life force and 0 stun breakers with a s/d burst rotation as an ele
all it takes is hurl+earthquake -> flash -> switch air -> 2-arcane wave+blast-rtl-updraft -> switch fire -> phoenix+ring of fire + fire grab. Easy, right? :p

so yeah, not really a oneshot, but you can gib them if all conditions are met (and they rarely are.)

Sure go do all your tournaments but you wont have as many viewers because all your viewers are getting farmed by all the elitist in hotjoins.

Zero promotion for newplayers.

And the elite are still doing hotjoins over tournaments because its more rewarding. Hence why newplayers are getting destroyed because elitists instead of winning games in tpvp are farming newplayers instead.

I found it pretty good overall. Some of the parts where a little dry, but it wasn’t bad. Also bring a Warrior and Guard like you said next time is a good change.

Glad they brought up retal.
I think it be very interesting if they’re actually able to give skills “retal resistence” of sorts where maybe they take 5-10% less damage per hit from retal would really add up.
Skills like flame jet, pistol whip, BF, HB, nades, firestorm.

Interesting Sotg, feels like there wasn’t much insight gotten on what is coming up forward for classes but eh, guess I’ll find out when it happens.

Imo, playing thief. Current Necro isn’t really shocking, there was a point when thief had a stronger arsenal, and undoubtably this Necro would not be as shocking as it is now if we had some of that back. Though I can still play around it.

I know SoTG is more sPvP oriented. But I really wish Thief being the only class with 900 range was brought up. It makes us pretty much useless in sieges sadly. Also disappointed that the only thing brought up was Shadow Trap wanting to be nerfed, I have no problem with it getting a duration on it, but please get it to actually work properly all the time. It is a good utility and if it did work correctly all the time I would agree in it’s OPness, but in it’s current state it’s too unpredictable to actually rely on. Also adding a cast timer on it would be stupid, why even make it stun breaker to begin with…?

I hope you guys can get a good tourney thief on soon (dunno if you have recently as I have not watched all SoTGs) because I don’t want to pretend I know what is all best for the class. Thanks for continuing to do this for the community.

Can anyone explain why the developers feel like they talk too much and why class balance discussions are typically rushed through? Does anyone really watch State of the Game for anything but class balance discussion with the developers? I feel like we know enough about the game’s features and mechanics at this point that it’s pointless to emphasize anything else.

I think it would make a lot more sense for the State of the Game to actually focus on discussions about the metagame. That would be a lot more interesting than hearing about how ArenaNet plans to adds tournaments and solo queue in the future, which everyone knew to begin with.

Zoose was supposed to be in one once, but never showed if I remember correctly.

I still don’t get why it’s ok for an engineer to get an RTL like ability (better and on the same 20s cooldown) to get out of trouble, but an elementalist can’t. This just doesn’t make sense to me.

As a intensity stacking condition, we will have more source of torment in the near future (via traits, utility, weapons)? If not, why the damage is so low?
The condition will stay bound to necro/mesmer/thief or will be spreaded to others professions?
As a movement related condition, why don’t make it deal more damage to enemy with active movement speed buffs (like swiftness or traits) or dashes?

Pretty good broadcast over all, but I would have loved if the build diversity of the different classes had been discussed more.
I don’t know if it is because they always have turnament players as guests, that most likely run the typical specs (guardian support, shatter mesmer and so on) that this is not addressed much.

During the show, when it was mentioned that guardians can use a lot of different weapon sets, I realised that I would have loved a more in depth discussion of viable weapon sets for the different classes as well. (Which aren’t used much and why as an example.)

(I know it’s a bit late to ask for that ^^ but maybe in the Next broadcast…)

With all of the new emphasis on E-Sport, shoutcasting and custom arenas is there any chance of bringing back some semblance of the Xunlai Tournament House? When the Xunlai house was active I was all about keeping up with the PvP players — had to know how everyone was trending so I’d know how to place my predictions.

I’d love to see a comeback.

There are also concerns outside of sPvP and how the changes in sPvP have affected other game modes that is discussed sometimes in the SOTG that they can bring up. Such as the RTL nerf and how it might have fit for the small map gametype that is conquest, but not PvE or WvW. Or how there is a conjure build that works in PvE, how can that be made to work in sPvP or WvW and so on.

The class is not “fine” and anyone who says so is wrong. The class has 2 builds that allow it to be viable in sPvP (a S/D burst build and D/D tank build) but the class is not “fine”. It still has bugs, still has lots of traits and talents that are lackluster/not viable, still has issues in other gametypes that should be discussed as this is a balance discussion that affects the whole game. The talks that happen here affect all 3 gametypes even though the players brought here are only really sPvP’ers and have sometimes little to no knowledge of how WvW or PvE are affected by their discourse and an elementalist would be able to. If you don’t main the class, you can’t truly give feedback, only imagine or think, how changes or suggestions would affect it.

After watching it, I must say I’m sad there has been no talk about PvE/PvP split nor about the state of Illusionist Celerity/illusions CDs while it had been asked on the Guru thread …
Guess we’ll have to wait more. Not a lot of information here, expected since we’re only in a monitoring phase after the big patch, we’ll only see some tweaks here and there.
Glad for the nerf to necro much deserved.
