I’ve actually found that when the cursor is properly aimed, and the ‘grabbing-hand’ cursor appears, I still can’t take an orb from a downed player until that player gets punted, moves, or is stomped.
I feel like it’s an intended mechanic, but I can’t be sure – it’s only happened to me a few times.

If you don’t like pro cursor aiming, just use knockbacks to displace the downed enemy.

All I know is sometimes if the guard pops Renewed Focus while carrying the orb and drops it you can’t pick it up for 2 seconds allowing the guardian to pick it up again once the cast is finished. Is this a bug/feature or lag on my part?

Switch to hammer on Spirit Watch, it’s pretty good for stopping people orb capping with RoW and banish anyway.
And yeah if you didn’t pick up on it, banish is a launch.
