Team builds - synergies in Gw1 vs Gw2
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Lost-potential/first
It has already been discussed to death in multiple threads, with the one above shining as one of the most in-depth analyses to date.
Unsuprisingly, none have ever been graced by any of the usual generic dev replies, let alone a specific and straight answer.

Not as important as in GW1 (not even close), but some sort of synergy is still required to maximize class potential

You shouldn’t need a certain class setup to be successful…if your running a team with friends who are all different classes or mostly different then that should be enough.
I dunno what you’re talking about…I always call out for instance my massive water field on my Engi so other people can blast in it for additional healing.

What answer do you want them to give exactly? There are team build synergies within the game but no one chooses to use them.

Your post said GW1 in a line where it should have said GW2 OP……
There is zero team synergy in GW2. In GW1 your entire team of 8 players would synergize everything. In GW2 there is no need to synergize. The teams only consist of 5 players and all there is very little difference in the maps. It’s all conquest all the time. You will not win with 5 bunkers or 5 roamers, etc…Thus, you fill out the needed roles in an all conquest game type with the most powerful flavor of the month builds and then play. That’s it.
As far as combo fields are concerned people rarely call them out. Its normally not needed either. If you are a decent player you’ll see opportunities to use your finishers in friendly combo fields and act accordingly.

I went and played gw1 for just an hours. Almost cried. I want gw2 pvp to be more like gw1.
It’s less needed than in GW1 yes. 8 random people with random builds would do nothing in GW1. It was pure buildwars on a teamlevel in gw1. It’s just both different games. A good synergy and good strategy/reaction will ofcourse make you outplay the other team.

GW2 is more like LoL where you have positions (carries supports junglers) that must be filled, but not necessarily by specific champions that synergize. GW2 devs said that they were heavily inspired by LoL and TF2 when designing their game.
The problem with teambuilds is the same problem with dual professions and complete freedom to customize 8 skills (64 total). It’s too hard to balance.
I only tried lol but I played dota and hon. The level of team play there is much higher than gw2 even in PUGs.
