After 1 and a half years of playing, dedicated to my Guardian now with tears in my eyes I’m telling my farewells to my favorite profession.

When I started to play this game I had no idea I can have more than 1 class and I chose very carefully. Never have regretted about my choice and never stopped to love my class. After 3K + PvP games, never got bored and never wanted to change my main. I don’t want to do it now too. But I have to.

Nobody needs a Guardian anymore. My class is useless weight for my team and I have to change it. Anet gave me promises that couldn’t keep. They promised me to be the Deffender for my team, The Catcher in the Rye. Then they gave to other classes more team support, leaving my class forgotten in the corner.

Oh Baltazar, hear my mourning and feel my pain till I say goodbye to my Guardian! Help my team to Hold the Line without me! Give me the hope some day I’ll be back to Stand my Ground!

My heart is bleeding but what needs to be done have to be done. From now on I’ll be playing celestial d/d ele. I’ll do my best to try to enjoy it. But this is how I feel:

I’ve heard this opinion before but I don’t agree that a cele ele supports better than a guardian. Maybe it depends on your team compo, but a support guard should still be pretty rocking. If you feel like you’re too much bunk and not enough damage, try this:

Slightly more squish than usual, but HUGE retal uptime for allies, nice boon duration, stability and extra condi clears. An easy 20 sec AoE retal = each enemy spell is gonna hurt em like hell. It can also 1v1 pretty well as well against certain classes like LB rangers and thieves if it ever comes down to it. Haven’t tried it in too many organized 5v5s or tourneys or anything like that, but in the many normal ranked games I played with it, it seemed to do really well

1v1? Nobody will ever fight you with build, because you deal no damage.

Bunker guards are still hard to kill, unless they bring huge condi uptime. Then they die in seconds. Ele is just better with it’s water fields and best condi clears in the game.

Thank you for trying to cheer me up, my fellow Guardian, but I have already tried all possible and impossible guardians builds (even celestial guardian, fml) and I know my teammates are right. Eles do give more support plus decent damage.

Even though I’m exaggerating and dramatizing, I think I have no choice. Guardians are no more valuable for the teams.

Dont be so sad my fellow guildie! You should be happy now that the spell has no power on you anymore. You were just lost in the idea that you have to stick to your guard. I play 5 classes. (Which means I probably had more potential if I only played 1 or 2 classes, but hell… I like trying new things.) That way I have more space for my intentions in this game with the ever-changing balance. Unless a necro-engie-mesmer meta kicks in. (Moreover Impact is just too firmly settled in the guild for me to ever dare challange his spot with my beloved thief. I wouldnt match the required skill level anyway.)

Back on topic: being a surfer does not mean standing on the shore complaining about the way waves are coming. Pick the right board and ride whatever type of wave comes.

Praying for better days is not going to help… You and your teammates might have concluded that Eles give more support than Guardians do, however, this has not stopped 55hp Monks from running theirs, and still claiming victories from time to time, even giving oRNG a hard time in the last Go4

Even the Frenchies who change their name as much as my gf changes her clothes have had several good runs with a guardian or even multiple

Don’t give in, fight it! Become better, and show how it can be done! Don’t be stuck on what is best on paper, live the dream and make reality fight the numbers!

Hehe, two totally opposing pieces of advice. Well fight if there is a fight to be won. I just dont think there is… I’d be a little more careful when following your logic. You see power necros/rangers as well in some higher rated teams, you still would not say they are the best choice for the spot they take.

Because, you know, this is what I wanted when I made this thread. Some sympathy, some support and some hugs maybe. And someone to tell me everything will be alright.
And of course I needed to hear some advices.

@Nimrud. Thank you! Yeah I know I need to learn the other classes better but but… My guardian! I have between 50 and 100 games with every other class and I don’t enjoy playing them. Btw don’t hesitate to challenge Impact, this nub needs some challenge. Don’t tell him I’ve said this.

@GoogleBrandon. You’re right! Your words are inspiring. I have a lot of work till I get to the level of the top guardians so to change the class now will be like leaving a job unfinished. Right? Well maybe I’m just looking for an excuse to keep playing guardian. And you giving me a good one. Thank you.

I am a loyal watcher of the ESL weeklies and Go4’s if I got the time, and the one thing I noticed is that on the EU side it has never been a one sided win for quite a while!

One week 55 wins, the other TCG takes it, and then the French team, oRNg… The beauty of it all? They all play different comps, with different strategies and setups!

Yes, Elementalists have overshadowed the role of the Guardian somewhat, but I have not seen people stop trying, or adjusting their comps to find a more suitable way…

Now, you got two options; Copy those who are succesful and become good with that, or find the golden setup for you to win!
Yes, I am guilty when I say that I mostly Solo with my Warrior, or roll it in a team where I do not trust our squishier classes, but at the same time it does not stop me from running something different sometimes, of which sometimes the results vary from fantastic wins, to immense blunders…

If Eya loves Guardian, then support her into her quest to make it work! It is the easy way out to say “Nah, you should roll an Ele instead” – it might be safe and working, but it does not mean it is a sacred thing that should be followed by everyone!

Play to be an asset, no matter what class you play! Adjust your strategies, make things work! If everyone would walk away by the slightest issues of a class, then we never would’ve seen TCG taking the first ToL, since Mesmers at that time were believed to be not even worth looking at!

Bottom line; Are Guardians viable? Maybe, but it all comes down to the player to make it happen, and I believe you can do it if you are truly passionate about your class!

I just have a strong and forceful opinion that no one has yet been capable of dealing with (aside Drarnor, because he has more knowledge about stuff than I will ever have) – I can easily see why you would initally dislike me because I never portrayed myself as a likeable person, but rather as one who you nearly cannot argue with

A nature which is not handy on the forums, so I have been keeping a low(er) profile… I don’t engage much anymore in conversations, and usually say what I want to say (like now), but deep down I want the same as everyone, which is a healthy game-enviroment in which everyone can enjoy what they want, and in your case it is playing your Guardian

Did you forget about “Go back to PvE, noob” or what?

Bunker guardian is very very very strong.

But that is only if you play with a full roster on TS. In soloQ, it is indeed a burden to your team, no matter how good you play. You can only be effective with efficient rotations.

I completely disagree with you, my favorite build is my 4-0-6-4-0 hambow warrior. I love partying up with 1 ele and 1 bunker guardian. No mater what map it is we hold down at least 2 spots. When my guild mates and i ran, we always went 1-3-1 and the ele would move from the guardian to the warrior. We held these points all games and when we were on team speak it was godly.

I can understand your frustration but the bunker guardian is still so useful being a ele cant hold a point the way a guardian can.

My ideal team for me is a warrior/guardian/ele for on point fighting and 2 other classes for range. I just would like to say i still appreciate the bunker guardian.

James and kdaddy, thank you for your posts, guys. As I said I exaggerated a bit (well maybe a lot). But I really felt somehow misled about my expectation about my class.

Also I have a teammate who always tells me exactly the same like you and Brandon, play what you want and what you enjoy and do your best to improve. Ignore meta. But I can’t say if he tells me this because he’s my friend and therefore cares, or because he really thinks it. So it was important for me to read opinions of people who don’t know me, so should be more objective.

Sorry if my English sounds weird, I’m not a native speaker. This thread served it purpose and it can be closed now. Thanks everyone again.

If guardians were more competitive in other roles besides bunker the fact that at the moment they are not the best bunkers any more would be easier to take. This is a class that really has not seen much in the way of buffs since release. They had one thing going for them in spvp which was just about everyone used them to middle point bunker. Also, they may be getting even weaker depending on the new stability changes work. It really is not a happy time for long time bunker guardians.
