I hope they wont, but i won’t bet on it.
2x ele/eng was the normal setup into the old meta, and this season 2x mes was the same.So it is not true that you won’t take 2 of the same class.
Nor is it necessarily true that you will. Before that, it was war, ele, engi, mesmer/guard, thief, and before that it was guard, ele, engi, mesmer, thief, and before that it was guard, ele, war, mesmer, thief. (I’m referring to EU meta since I’ve only been in NA since July and only active in NA since late September.)

didn’t you see any of the old tournaments did you?
Nor played/checked the meta exploit of this season through stronghold.

I’ve seen tournaments from as far back as 18 months. Stronghold has nothing to do with the meta as far as competitive PvP is concerned, lol.

Noooo… you can compete for the ranked season by playing stronghold premade.
But no, ofc, it does not count as ranked arena.
To me it’s a shame as map, but cause they put it into legendary achievement, ranked queue and metabattle meta… i guess it could count as spvp.
Also, if you have seen spvp on the old gw2, you may understand what i am talking about ( bring 2x class. at some point in some tournaments they put a limit 3x class… lawl ).

God tier:
Chronomancers
Good tier:
Scrappers
Tempests
Thieves
Revenants
Okay tier:
Druids
Berzerkers
Dragonhunters
Garbage tier:
Necromancers
What people forgot:
Mesmers absolutely thrive in glassy metas and Chronomancer only makes them more devastating.
Tempests have fairly strong DPS, where there is a lot of glassier targets they can really lay on the damage.
Scrappers DPS and survivability is still stupid, just shows how terrible ArenaNet is at balancing but at least they aren’t super strong in teamfights? ArenaNet, get a new balance team..
Thieves will still be thieves.
Revenants will still be revenants.
Druids will suffer heavily with the removal of the tanky amulets.
Berserkers will be 1-trick ponies.
Dragonhunters will still fart out 0 casting time traps because terrible design.
Necromancers will suffer the most, the more glassy the enemy, the less survivability they will have. Life force will be a constant struggle (unless exploiting map bugs like Khylo, EEEESPPPURTZ) they thieve in a meta where they can’t hit targets. The less of a chance they get to build life force, the more useless they become.
you don t even know the full balance changes nostradamus.
Yeah we do. 100% of the time Anet “previewed” balance changes, those “previews” were 100% of the coming changes.
It would be foolish to think it would be different this time.
I did not say it can’t happen, or that it won’t. I said it won’t necessarily happen. I am of the opinion there will be either 2 scrappers or 1 scrapper and 1 engineer (A.K.A 2 engi) in meta comps. However, I can’t and don’t know for sure, especially when not knowing all the changes yet. What I am saying is, there doesn’t have to be 2 of a particular class per comp just because they are top picks. Thief for instance, has for a lot of metas, been a top pick, but only one per team (except for one, brief, exception, and that team did not do very well).

Almost. They were actually 99% of the changes. ANet left out of the preview a couple of things which made players go from being eager for everything good in the preview, to annoyed at yet another patch ruined.

In my eyes.. Anet boost engi tool kit trait from 20%cd reduce to 33%. This is not big shake but after scrapper nerfs(actually I don’t think that they want boost him) I start thinking about core engi build.
Nerf scrapper is ok, still think that 40sec cd sneak gyro and triple leap add 2 sec cd is not enough. I hope that they improve other gyros (somewhere i saw suggestion to shredder gyro have ability to increase condi duration for other ally by 10-20% and can be overcap) so I hope that annet make big effort to suit proffesions for every game style(pvp, pve, wvw).
Btw: succesfull balance will be: every proffesion in meta A+
So.. I start play scrapper. "
Tier 1:
Scrapper – the only dominant build from the current bunker meta that suffered no real nerfs. Way too much sustain for a marauder build, ridiculous amounts of heals and crazy amounts of free dmg reduction. Cant spam as much stealth but doesnt really need to. Hopefully they get fixed before the season starts, otherwise i see 3 scrappers on every team being meta. They are still somewhat killable so at least the meta will be a bit faster but diversity-wise its gonna suck again with 50%+ of the playerbase using scrapper. By far my biggest fear for season 2.
Tier2:
Necro – mmmmm boons
Tier 3:
Druid, Thief, Rev, Ele, War, Rev, Mes – hard to judge these so im lumping them all together for now. Druid and ele are gonna miss cele, but druid still has a lot going for it same as ele. new thief/war need to be tested, revs will miss durability runes and got some nerfs. Mesmer will be fine imo, not as dominant as now but still strong.
Tier 4:
Guards could be in serious trouble, they where already pretty weak (too strong in low level play though) and i think they will end up bottom-tier. Unless there are more changes we dont know yet (which i doubt, previews where always 95% of all changes, except for a tooltip or something like that here and there), i dont see any viable guard builds. But then again without so many bunkers meditrapper could maybe still work.
Thief can’t keep druid out of the meta because druid brings too much to the table. If a thief tries engaging me I’ll use point blank shot then use my bristleback’s ability to burst it down. I will then use rapid fire to bait some dodges and apply vulnerability. If I ever get too low I’ll proc signet of stone then heal up with CA form and finish off with lunar beam carefully timing the dazes.
Sorry for the late reply. 1v1 isn’t the issue. I’m worried about a +1 in a close fight or when your pants are down. PI is something fierce when I dont see it coming.
A – Necro, Necro, Necro, Thief, Necro again
B – Necros
C – Well you get the point
I think we need to see a slight nerf to LF generation on staff as well as chill.
I actually theorycrafted about this a ton.
I feel pretty confident in saying, that the following 3 classes will be pretty strong:
- Necro (mid tier before, received huge buffs and can use the new amus well)
- Engi (top-tier before, received only minor nerfs and can use the new amus well)
- Ranger (top-tier before, shouts got better and can use the new amus well)
Now it gets complicated:
- Guardian (Bunker could be good, since it can use the tankiest amu, clerics, very well, but it heavily depends on how many necro’s and condi-revs are played (the more, the worse for bunker-guard. Also, DH could be very strong with much less stability and no insane quickness-rezzes anymore. I can even see a more sustainy version with 3+ meditations and menders amu working pretty well)
- Rev (got some serious nerfs to both dmg and defenses (cuz of durability rune removal mostly), will also depend on how prominent necro’s are in the meta, cuz they’ll simply shred rev’s most likely.
- Thief (no idea…. srsly. Depends if the rev will still be the go-to +1, if there’ll be a stealth-burst meta again etc)
- Mesmer (got some absolutely crushing nerfs, didn’t really try to come up with new builds, but I’m pretty sure this one’s out of the meta.)
- Warrior (The buffs we’ve seen so far are nowhere near enough to make it viable.)
- Ele (Now that’s a very tricky one and depends on so many factors: Fresh Air with Menders Amu could be strong as DPS/Support, D/D with Sages Amu could work etc. I still think it’ll hardcounter condi classes in 1v1’s, even with the new diamond skin, but it’s simply too hard to say. I think Fresh Air could be decent at a high level of play, but most likely not “meta”)

Am I the only one that remembers how much the necro suffers in a glassy-fast meta?
We already had a glass cannon meta, necros were not in it. Hell, they didn’t become viable until the cele meta came around, one of the biggest reasons was they could actually start building life force and run viable builds like power necro.
If the meta is about hitting fast and not get hit, necros get left behind.

There are easy ways to make the necro much tankier and surive in a meta like this. I actually think a shoutnecro with merc-amu might be one of the tankier builds that will be played heavily. (death magic, soul reaping, reaper, 5 shouts, soldier amu)
Besides, who says the meta will be glassy and powerspike oriented? This would heavily depend on Thief being viable for example, which is not a given, also, there are better counters to stealth-bursts now with engineer reveal for example.

Because high spike damage is already very good, I’ve been playing Tempest with marauders and it’s damage is extremely high and the survivability is surprisingly high.
The issue is bunker Tempest is ridiculously strong, same thing with a lot of meta bunkers. Currently the ability to defend dwarfs the class viability for offense.
Also, thieves do NOT keep glass metas in check.
