So I’ve been getting into spvp recently, only rank 13, and yes I play a hammer warrior, yes I know I’m not good etc. I’m just curious because no matter what just about every game I join someone ends up whispering me insults and or just being a complete jerk for lack of better words (obscenities etc)

Well today I got raged at for not being able to get a stomp by one of my teammates, guy was down, I didn’t have stability up and I got knocked down and my teammate got finished and the enemy got back up. Was just curious if it’s bad luck or what, cause I can see how it would discourage newer players. Like I said, I’m aware I’m not very good, but I’m trying to improve, just seems like every game there’s some kitten who is calling someone out.

do not let them get to you. just keep playing and enjoy.

btw, if you have the chance to res an ally do it. it’s much better than stomping the enemy first. you can attack the downed enemy a little and then rush to your ally to res him.

I agree a bit with Fello, to an extent. There is always going to be jerks in a PvP environment, but there is a few issues that is making it even worse in this game. The main one also happened to GW1. This is basically that the PvP in this game has become stagnant with no new game modes, very few new players, and what amounts to an unobtainable goal for 99.9999% of the pvp population. All this stagnation leads to a stagnant population, that over time becomes frustrated and you see this in their attacks on other players during games. This is all my opinion of course, but I also watched it happen in GW1.

Its not you- pvp games just have that type of community. I can understand people getting heated in tourneys, but if you are getting that degree of attention in hotjoin I guess you just have to try and ignore it.

There are some great people out there though, so don’t write off everyone based on a few badeggs.

Sometimes /say or /map insults like “you are so bad” or whatever can be meant in a lighthearted way, you know to stir up some rivalry or whatever in game, but I find people actually whispering insults to be really weird.

The thing is, that pretty much everyone who has played pvp since launch/betas (there ain’t many of those people left) have built up such a high level of frustration over pvp in this game, that they(we) are basically walking explosives of rage just waiting to be ticked off by any minor thing.

EDIT: oh yeah, and if anybody wanted to drop the old l2p here, yes. It’s l2p issue. It’s not like those builds are not killable by proper specs, it’s just that the skill requirement for each side is so drastically different it’s making the fights very unfair regardless of skill.

Just look at it from this point of view: the most popular builds right now are warriors, spirit rangers, condi+stealth or phantasm mesmers, MM and/or condi necros. All of these builds have one thing in common: they are easy to play yet brutally effective. Since they are naturally tanky, they carry little risk for very high rewards and leave room for errors.

The second part of this is that there is quite a big number of players who enjoy playing power/burst setups, just for the thrill or because we simply enjoy the combo-ish feeling such a playstyle brings. But there is not a SINGLE meta-friendly burst build that would be effective enough compared to the risk it carries in comparison with the popular meta-builds. Moreover these specs get hard countered not just by their own squishiness and susceptibility to damage + CC, but even by the huge number of ways to mitigate direct damage (weakness, protection, toughness, vitality, health regen/healing, dodges, blocks, evades, invulnerabilities ect.), most of which are drastically less effective against condition damage.

Have you ever tried bursting the standard hambow warrior with a glkittenter mesmer? It doesn’t kill him, he never comes close to getting downed with your whole combo even if he lets himself get hit. He can just stand still and until your combo is ready again, his HP goes back by 50%. But if he catches you, you are in for a world of pain. That’s why most mesmers don’t play shatter anymore, they play the braindead blackwater spec or just as braindead phantasm spec.

These things combined lead to something that makes people rage quite fast and effectively. When we grow tired of playing these dumb specs, we sometimes go back to playing something we actually enjoy and have fun with, like dps ele or shatter mesmer, or d/p thief. And then after getting into any random tournament or hotjoin or wherever game, we are faced with people who are more often than not new to pvp compared to us and we get facerolled so hard we burst into tears of rage and foam starts coming out of our mouths. For we have been slain by a build that can miss any single skill in it’s rotation, and as long as he connects a few of them he is going to win. That’s what makes us rage.

when people face unfair and “not to win” situations and get stomped for it and be just canonfodder for other players than YES they rage

its normal

And this game is broken in many ways and has Classes/builds hardcountering other classes/builds so they cant do anything than die. I never raged in games before and i played alot but guildwars 2 can bring the most ugly, anoying, unfair …. fight situations ever and is made to make people rage. Even the stomping mechanics are made to let you kitten on your enemy once you won.

there is necro , S/d thief, spirit ranger and so on … and most OP atm is hammerwarrior (I call them hammermonkeys) and you should not wondering about when people rage on you when you play the most op crap this game has.

(Foolishly, sticks head in lion’s mouth)

To all the people who justify poor sportsmanship and basically abhorrent antisocial behavior directed to a newbie who is learning PVP, get over yourselves and go do something else.

There is never a justification for uttering an obscenity to a team mate or opposing player.

To OP: report the kittens for using bad language and let them sit out there time in the penalty box.

Edit: To further clarify, if the OP made a mistake by trying to stomp instead of res, you should say “Hey, next time res before stomp” then the OP learns something and continues to play. If on the other hand, you say “kitten kitten kitten l2p kitten kitten” the OP has a bad time and quits the game, and your already dying game mode continues to die.

For the record, I’m a level 4 rabbit who quit PvP because of this kind of attitude. It’s just not fun.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

I dont mind people cursing I get mad also during pvp it is a competitive game. But I say it out loud in real life calm down and move on. I dont verbaly attack people and ruin their gaming experience.

You can also put them on ignore if they are too anoying.

Regardless of “pent up frustration” or any other excuse, there really is no excuse for being a jerk. Those same people flaming you would probably flame you regardless just because they lost.

That being said, it’s pretty much the same thing in any online game so suck it up and deal with it!

EDIT; and don’t start with the “he cussed at me waaa” idiocy. If it’s that big a deal the turn on the profanity filter. Just remember, most people are jerks (most people are stupid too), just gotta deal with it and stick with the good ones.

I think I love you. This is exactly where I am with the game, I’ve played since beta, I’ve recently stopped playing due to the current meta. Just the other night I dusted off my shatter zerk mesmer build and ended up rage quitting, from condition necro and then your run off the mill hambow warrior.

I then end up re-speccing to PU (blackwater build) which requires little to no skill and promptly faceroll people, In one match I killed 3 players (3v1) and when the 4th came, I did a /wave emote and then logged off.

Do I like Guild Wars 2 PvP? Yes I do. I hate the current meta, if they shift things back to burst builds becoming more viable, where timing, positioning and knowing when to burst comes into play, I would probably play again.

And yes, I have raged at players, normally warriors, I’m not proud lol

It’s definitely not you. I got a lot of insults for playing a Hambow Warrior, being told I suck, have no skill, all that good stuff. I started playing S/S+LB and I had an Engineer say that I was stupid.

I’ve also whose name asked if I lift, and I messaged him that I do indeed lift after I killed him and he got really angry with me.

People tend to insult when things don’t go their way, don’t let it get to you. The community is toxic so bring some Antitoxin Spray.

If you’re playing a hammer/longbow warrior you really shouldn’t be surprised at people screaming obscenities at you, it’s kinda expected.
It’s a combination of frustration at ArenaNet taking so long to roll out class balance patches, and frustration at players who shamelessly keep using mega-OP builds (like you :P).

Don’t take it personally, if you want to keep playing nobody can stop you. This game’s PvP community is actually not bad, nowhere near as toxic as some other communities I’ve seen.

Usually bads are the first ones to rage…countless times i got and still get whispers like “Hacker, cheater, noob mesmer, go play a proper class (Even from rangers and warriors rofl) and many more..” after killing someone badly in hotjoin (And almost always in hotjoin, not in tpvp where ppl are way more educated)…well…maybe after trolling them for some time too (You can’t resist trolling wars just swinging hammer around and eating shatters like peanuts) and at the end of the match they revealed to be all pve heroes just raging their badness out…i got many asking for tips too and i always been glad to answer, believe me as far as i know you’re more likely going to be insulted by noobs cause good players are (usually) pretty open to help new ones.. lb\hammer wars, spirit rangers and crap like that is noskill kitten no dubt, but there’s no point insulting them…you can troll them all day, you can gank them..but there’s no reason to personally insult someone, even more new players who obviously go for the best low risk\high reward specs around…once they eventually get better they will realize by themselves it was just lame…my opinion anyway…the only ones to insult are those from anet who let those unskilled specs going…many ppl will always go for the shorter way to cookies if they have a chance to do it..giving them those chances is the real mistake…

Anyway stardard answer for bads raging at you is “<3” they get mad…xD

I had the same experience in hotjoin when I started to play and I play a Guardian. So it’s not your profession or your skills that make people to whisper you insults, it’s just their short temper and their lack of selfcontrol. The problem is in them, not in you.

Also be sure they make mistakes too, but they will never blame themselves, they will blame you, their “noob team”, the matchmaking, arenanet, the international situation, but will never look for mistakes in themselves. These people are complete losers and don’t deserve your attention.

Because of this kind of attitude many people just give up on PvP and never go again – half of them, because they can’t stand to be insulted in a game they play for fun, and half because they start to believe these idiots and to think they are really bad and better go to PvE.

So don’t let them to hurt you, play your game, enjoy your class, it might be OP now but it won’t be forever. And be sure this will stop at some point. I’m not sure why, but after I hit rank 15 and moved to SoloQ no one has ever insulted me anymore.

The night is dark and full of turnips.

Pretty much all trashtalking i get is from guys who got wrecked 1v1 or 2v1. So your gameplay (or profession in some cases) makes them feel so powerless that they start to get frustrated. The flames are the result of that build up frustration.

It would worry me If i stopped getting those whispers.
