Your opinion on the patch as a pvper
I dont care if it took you guys a long time, we received nothing in all this time.
That’s not true. Players which spent a lot of time in sPvP received a lot of skins which are hard to obtain in PvE or would require a lot of time to get them. Additionally sPvP was a completely isolated game mode until the recent patch so there was nothing that was interchangeably useful to both game modes (i.e. gold was absolutely useless in sPvP, karma in PvE etc.) You also have to take into account that many hard-core sPvP players aren’t interested in PvE or WvWvW which means rewards are not that much important to them and the previous version of sPvP was all they actually needed. Their outcries are more related to sPvP itself, lack of challenge etc.
As for legendary weapons, I don’t own any of those although I could have made them on multiple occasions (I simply don’t like the skins). I play all game modes (level 500 in WvWvW, rank 37 in sPvP, multiple characters with 100% map completion, all 8 player professions) so I don’t have a reason to be particularly biased toward any game mode.
The situation might be a bit different now that sPvP has opened itself to other modes but you can’t deny the fact that sPvP rewards got a serious buff since the introduction of the patch.
Who are you to speak for the PvP only players, there’s no skin that you obtain in PvP are hard to obtain in PvE, the only one skin you get is infinite light, and it required tons of glory and gold to make, or you have to be one of a few rank 70 that ever existed in years of playing while there are already thousands of infinite light in PvE. after the patch, anything is easier to obtain in PvE then in PvP.
PvP players want good looking skins just like PvE players, there’s no change.
If you really think earning skins in PvE is easy then please, by all means, get them by yourself. You want Arah weapons? That’s fine, you will only need 390 tokens for each two-handed weapon which means at least three days of time-gated dungeon grinding if you want to avoid paths that last 1.5-3 hours each. Compare that to 1-2h tops (even faster with Team arenas) in order to get the same weapon through sPvP reward tracks and then please come back and remind me how is that harder from doing the same through PvE?
If you are an experienced sPvP player then you should have gotten a ton of skins from glory vendors and achievement boxes (every single box rewarded at least five excellent skins). Are those skins now missing in your wardrobe? Mine are all accounted for. And I couldn’t care less if they weren’t because when I play PvP (and I’ve done that well over nine years in Guild Wars games) I only expect good matches and game experience. I couldn’t care less if I played naked if that meant that some of the problems that still exist in GW2 sPvP get solved.
Personally, I think this is a good patch. Im all for the communities of PVE, WvW, and SPVP being tied closer together. That can only be good for the longterm health of spvp (more players=more people wanting to host tournies=more spvp). The quality of life changes are EPIC and the rewards make things more motivating.
Finally, the balance changes are decent but we obviously need this “shaving” to happen more often.
Just my 2 cents. carry on :P
Has this patch improved/declined the pvp experience for you?
a bit of both for me.
improved:
- various reward tracks are nice bonus
- 5 vs 4 custom arenas hosted by anet are fun (when i’m on the “5” team)
- courtyard is nice sPvP zerg action
declined:
- 8 vs 8 custom arenas hosted by anet removed
- 4 vs 5 custom arenas hosted by anet are not fun (when i’m on the “4” team)
complaints:
- unable to get ascended stats via reward tracks
- unable to unlock dungeon reward tracks via sPvP
Also as a note of interest, post your rank/experiences pre-patch
- rank 36 wolf pre patch
- played a few games each day since patch, rank 37 wolf now.
I vote for rewards for TPvP wins. So we maybe actually can spend some gold for PvE skins.

My opinion as a pvper is that Anet realized they screwed up pvp right after launch, so they let it go and focused on pve and WvW, now….. knowing they already lost 90% of pure pvpers (meaning those that only wants to play pvp and dont care about anything else), they released this patch, that gives pveer a reason to try pvp out…. skins, golds, materials and stuff like that.
Actually it worked…there many ppl from my guild too that did never stepped into pvp and now they are trying it out.
Is this good ? well, i lost all my hopes on gw2 being a truly competitive pvp game, so, assuming this, i can say that having pve newbies into pvp is still better than having noone to fight against.
Reward tracks are a good idea, gives a feeling of progression, but we need to have some more of them and some more important ones.
For example, i already had all dungeon skins, so the only thing i really needed from those tracks was balthazar backpiece; and it took me a day to get it.
I’m sure i’m not the only one in the same situation, so i think we would need a fractal track or a legendary track…. idk something like that.
Is it all ok now ? Hell no! Surely some tiny good steps into right direction happened on necro, ele and warr, but there are still many problems with pvp since the beginning, and we all know them, dont need to repeat over and over.
Info about me:
Rank 51 pre patch, champion phantom, illusionist, legionnaire. Have been top 200 team arena, long time ago; now i gave up competition to just play with my friends and guildies.
I’m currently rank 60 post-patch. I really enjoy the new changes. The reward tracks & wardrobe are exactly what I was hoping for.
The changes have really brought over a lot of PvErs, which I welcome. Let’s call a spade a spade: ANET hasn’t shown any interest in satisfying the pvp community since launch. Now that there’s a huge flood into the community, I think we’ll see more attention…which is a good thing. I’ll take what I can get.
That being said, there are still some situations needing to be remedied, all that I’m sure the toxic pvp community have touched on already in this thread… I’m just exhausted from kitten complaining all the time, so I’m trying to be more optimistic.
OVERALL: I’m much happier as a pvp purist than I was before, but realize there’s a lot more work needed to make pvp a truly competitive environment.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
Additional post to say that I’ve always been the only officer in my guild of 400+ to pvp. Now, the entire guild is trying it out and loving the pvp scene. From a business perspective, this was a good move for anet and as someone that really enjoys my non-pvp guild, I’m really happy that they’re getting into it.

Rewards and tracks are great. It makes we want to actually play pvp now. Problem is the balance is still garbage. In general I think it got a “bit” better balance wise but honestly the cheese builds still dominate and they always will until they are fixed. Nobody wants to get dominated in pvp because someone else is exploiting flawed game mechanics and thats how it is now.
I think its unfair that Pvers are walking with legendaries in PvP and the pure PvPers have nothing.. Just a bunch of skins which you can also get easy in pve.. I vote for a better reward to the PvPers for spending their time in PvP.
The legendaries are the most painful thing about this patch, Its probably going to take me another year just to get both legendaries(From PvP), and Mr. Dungeon Farmer walks the frick in as a new PvP player with a GLORIOUS shiny armor and at least 3 legendaries.
As a hardcore PvP player, molst the community has expressed over the last year that they want better MMR and game modes and don’t want endless skins..now it means they want skins.
Join the tournament of legends. The reward is a legendary..there is your PvP only obtained legendary, so there is options there.
There is nothing stopping you getting a legendary. In PvP you have no reason to spend much gold. It will accumulate over time. All legendaries can be purchased.
You can buy one using real world money..which is how most people who run round with 4 of them have gotten that many. This means PvP’ers are not short changed in any way because most PvE legendary owners bought theirs anyway.
This should be this subject entirely addressed now.

What is your evidence for the claim that most PvE’ers bought their legendaries? And the tournament by definition only hands out one legendary weapon. Create a reward track that ends in a legendary and we have some kind of comparison then.
This patch just killed the old decent playerbase left, ppl who spent a ton of time in pvp just to get screwed and paired with noobs…now pvp is dominated by casual pve heroes and random nabs with free emotes. Dead game is dead.
