As I’m sure everyone has seen there is an “overflow” of overflow threads which are complaining about guesting and not being able to do the large scale events. Some things before I get into specifics on what I’m curious that may work:
1.People tend to get put in overflow because the timer (Dragontimer website) is letting everyone know about when they will come on each server.
2.People in different time zones sometimes cannot even get to do some events because of time restraints.
3. As of the next patch bosses/events that drop chests will only be 1 per event per account.
So now for my question.
Does anyone think that it would be better to have certain bosses like Claw of Jormag, Shadow Behemoth, Shatterer, Maw etc, on exact timers so that players could plan on being there at a certain time? Most people in large guilds have an advantage of being told when something is up, unfortunately they can often time end up in overflows. Now setting a timer to exactly when they will spawn “could” allow players to check at those times and see if they could finish the events.
What this would look like-
Bare in mind I’m not sure of the logistics of this, and could be changed to work better
Every server could have either its own timer for each event, separating the events so that:
1. All events do not share same time frame (aside from stuff like maw during maybe Jormag etc)
2. All events on every server share same exact time (to discourage hopping over to the next server)
“Oh I missed the 7pm one, I’ll go do maw that is garaunteed to be up in 5 minutes and try the 9pm Jormag.”
I know there are many fans of the website that has the dragon timer and they did a great job with all the work they put into it. I think this idea would still allow them to run as they do providing timers to the events.
A reason why I suggest this instead of randomizing events:
1. People could entirely miss large events because of bad luck on making it on time.
2. This would do away with the dragon timer website that people worked hard at.
And so no one misunderstands my reasoning for timed events:
I am NOT saying make all events time based, I love meta events and dynamic events that happen based on triggers.
Timed events would also lead to more people doing them because they would know exactly when to do it. Because of this I think feedback could be given to devs about how they could enhance the difficulty and complexity of the events. What I mean is devs could add more motion to Jormag, more HP and variations to Maw. Tons more ideas could be created, and making the events change over time could really enhance game-play. It would also allow them to get an idea of how crowded each event is and adjust accordingly over time as more statistics come in ie, when there is a serious overflow at the 8pm est event dynamically adjust HP OR simply implement a way for overflow to do the boss or get in somehow. Also for future updates they could add randomized world events or world events similar to how they are now as the current events are staples of most players day to day adventure rather than unique events. Making these standard events, and then adding future content that was more random would help those seeking more unique world events. Because as it is now there is very little that is truly unique about the 10 or so events that everyone does almost as religiously as their own daily achievements. Speaking of, daily achievements could include these timer world events since people could pick a time to do them, as well pick to do them at all.
So that’s my very long post, what is everyone’s thoughts?
