By now you have all seen this post regarding the special halloween event. My thoughts on that can be summed up by: Making an event that can only occur once for a global MMO was a bad idea. But once that was locked in, scheduling the event for peak population makes sense.

Then I saw this line:

It also means that it’s the same calendar date whether you’re American or European.

Which is a big insult to Oceanic players. Not only does the event occur early on monday morning, but ANET justifies it with an explanation that specifically excludes us. It tells me that if you live in a country that’s at GMT+5 or higher, ANET doesn’t care about you.

ANET, you need to do something to apologize for this insult.

5am for you makes it fine for people who have to get up at 3am? Here how about this, whats a bad time for you to play? Maybe we should have the event then, see who’s QQing then.

I’d have to say, I’m quite disappointed in this as well. Getting up at 5am for a game might be reasonable if you don’t have things you need to do that day that require you to not be in a sleep-deprived state, non-gamers living with you who’ll be disturbed by setting an alarm early enough to make it, or other things that simply make it untenable.

Guild Wars 1 had festival events running multiple times through the day so everyone got a chance to participate whatever their timezone (or, for that matter, schedule – there will be people in the US and Europe that for whatever reason can’t make that time). Why can’t Guild Wars 2 do the same?

Why can’t Anet just make this a cutscene that plays for everyone the first time they log in starting a noon PST? This would make every player globaly be able to experience this. I, myself have commitments and will not be able to attend. Real life comes first, Anet. Don’t punish players for that!
