Dueling/Sparring other players
I completely agree with you. Just being able to duel anywhere can spice things up a lot! It will not only help the casual players (or hardcore) but also the RPers. It is quite annoying to travel to the HotM first and look for an empty room just to do a simple duel.
Hi, I’m sure this has already been suggested by other players
Yes, it has and a search would have told you so.
If they’re going to do this, it should be limited to a particular area in the game, one designated specifically for the purpose. Otherwise, if it can be initiated anywhere in the world, you’re going to end up getting hassled by over-enthusiastic duellists constantly cruising for a fight and getting aggressive when you turn them down.
Hopefully though, this is one area where ArenaNet won’t cave to pressure.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.
I see what you’re saying, but I’ve never found that to be an issue in other games I’ve played, and given the community of this game (which is fantastic I have to say) I think that it’d be even less of an issue here. And as zubebuehler said, the ability to duel anywhere would be great for RPers.
If a particular area designated for dueling had to be a thing though I’d hope for it to simply be say an area of Lion’s Arch (perhaps a new area of the city), or perhaps one for each capital city, because that’d add to cities being social hubs and a great place to chill. Lion’s Arch always seems to send me to the overflow initially so unless they can allow more players in the area on a server then I suppose the latter may be more feasible.
I love this idea, being able to duel with anyone would be awesome, and we’d need a option to block the duel invites as well.. ALSO, if this is put in the game, we’d also need an option to fight to down or to the defeat.(Seeing as you don’t really die when ‘defeated’ in this game. xD)

Yes, definitely limit it to areas in the game that are appropriate for such things. One such areas is near all the dungeon vendors in Lion’s Arch.
Having sparring able to be done anywhere is a mistake, a big mistake. But I’m sure Anet know this already.
No, it would cause more horrible elitism. We wouldn’t want more elitist than there already is right?
But seriously, sure I wouldn’t mind being a to duel players for fun.
Dueling for fun, no repair costs, that would be fun. 2 party agreement, naturally.
A: If you used the search function you would have realized that this has been brought up at least 20 times in 20 different threads. Also duplicating threads is against ToS.
B: If you read anything at all that Arena Net puts out, you would have realized they are implementing a Dueling system for the Heart of The Mist, You can rent your own private rooms and duel till your hearts content.
C: Dueling not being an issue in other games, World of Warcraft on average walking outside the main cities that are populated you will get at least 3 to 7 duel request, and with that at least 1 to 3 slanderous remark towards you when you decline.
D: Dueling is needed in the game, although it is not needed in any other section of the game that is not PvP. To all the people out there that say dueling can help someone hone their builds or what not your making an invalid argument. At no time is Fighting another player going to help you in PvE, as no mob, Vet, or champion acts, or reacts like a player does. Therefore dueling a player to hone your PvE build will only give you false positives, and incorrect results. Dueling hones your ability to fight against other players, Hench is why the developers are only putting the feature in PvP or the Heart of the Mist.
The only details they have released on this feature is
- You can rent private rooms for a small fee
- You can customize the rooms feature to fit your liking
– Lock them, objectives more than likely
I also think that these rented rooms should also allow players to have the options to wear PvP armors or PvE armors. This will allow the WvWvW players to hone their gear and builds to maximum efficiency.
As far as Dueling in any PvE area’s, it is not needed or is it even logical as there is no possible reason to do it other than you want to harass others.
Well, that was an aggressive reply.
As has already been suggested there could be a way to lock duel invites in the world, which would prevent harrassment.
And saying “it is not needed or is it even logical as there is no possible reason to do it other than you want to harass others.”? No, it is because of the reasons I’ve already said, i.e. watching the duels happen, building the sense of community and having a fun place to hang out, as well as role-playing.
I try to follow what ANet puts out but I must have missed them talk about implementing duelling, does anyone know if they’ll allow spectators?
As long as it’s limited in areas and there’s an option which be default is turned that will block all duel requests I’d be fine with it. Otherwise there are people who will spam duel requests to the point of harassing players.
