I opened a discussion here to get ideas for what Altoholics would like to see in this game. Here are the compiled requests from players who love to play more than one character.

Features:
- View the hero page of any alt
- View the craftable recipes page of any alt
- View the inventory (including bag types) of alts
- Optional toggle to bring up the “currently equipped” tooltip for alts that can equip items that are moused over.
- Be able to easily share account-bound items and currencies across alts, including town clothes, minipets, weapons, armour, tonics, etc. Make this possible without visiting the bank for “swap overs”.
- Be able to view (but not transact with) the bank from anywhere
- Making dyes account wide, or having the means to upgrade a dye to account-wide
- Allowing your alts to appear in your player housing instance, and interacting with their info, skills, and inventory there
- Ability to remove soulbinding from items, or upgrade items to account-wide
- Ability to access the Karma of alts (a high trade rate maybe?)
- Account-bound Gear with stats that scale with level, possibly rewarded from personal story

Improvements:
- Better incentives to play in any area for equal or higher level characters, attracting players back to all areas of the world
- Wider variety of stat combinations (likely through special runes from holiday events, etc?)
- Make Personal Stories more unique than they are, keep them unique and relevant from 1-80.
- Add more unique “factions” per race, and keep these relevant from 1-80
- Add more uniqueness to dynamic events across areas and level-strata
- Add more standard cultural armors for level <80 so each race can keep wearing culturally appropriate level all the way up
- Allow cross-cultural wearing of cultural armours (I’m sure any tailor worth their salt can remeasure and custom make their culture’s clothes for whoever turns up! Extra fee perhaps?)
- Turn tokens into currency that doesn’t take up bank space
- Streamline the character select screen for reviewing your characters easier (option for all on one screen, etc)

What’s new or great already for GW2:
- Making every area replayable regardless of level.
- No limits on number of crafting professions per character, with no waste of progress
- Biography and motivation choices

I would want to see a return of a function that has been removed. Im referring to the view gear function. Was a time when I could play any of my character (6 now) and preview a piece of gear to see if I like it. Now if Im not playing the class for that gear I cannot see what It looks like ! !

Just because I cant use something, doesnt mean I shouldt be able to viwe it. Frankly If I cant view it.. I aint gonna buy it

;)

We’re not retreating… we’re advancing in a different direction !

Yea Phantax I was dissapointed that gear preview got altered…. It’s called Window Shopping and it ain’t a crime.

Something else that bothered me was I was expecting that selecting an Order to join would have given me a differnt personal story depending on my race… nope I’ve joined the Order of Wisper’s a total of 4 times now and I still have to get sloshed and go rescue that Demi girl at least 1 more time ( Not going to lie I chose my order based solely on what the classes gear would look like). Not that I don’t absolutely adore Tybalt….. but I’d prefer a different agent to reflect the race I chose.

I don’t have any alt’s just 8 mains. :P

Interesting list, quite comprehensive. I like most of it. Some seem a bit overboard but I’m not going to argue against anything in particular.

Would really, really, really like the armor preview restored (I’m holding out hope it was disabled while they fixed clipping issues, but…. :[ ), it’s so frustrating to not be able to see what armor looks like without actually swapping characters, whether it’s at a karma merchant in the back end of nowhere (which means taking two other alts all the way out just to see what the other two armor classes look like falls into the “too much effort, and thus isn’t going to happen” category), or someone is linking their gear in chat to show it off (sorry, I’m too lazy to switch alts just to look at someone ’s armor)

Would rather see soulbound replaced by account bound across the board, there’s is absolutely zero reason for it to exist.

Would love some cultural armor that isn’t part of the current huge money sink (you know, since that was how they were advertized after all, and I don’t know about you but I don’t recall any of the trailers having fine print that said “This armor you see on every single Sylvari is actually only available at egregious prices [and also won’t have great stats so you’ll have to buy transmutation stones for it to be decent armor]” -.-)

Wider range of stat combos would be pretty cool (I imagine challenging to balance though), but I don’t think using holiday mats for that is a great idea, as those are temporary drops which do weird things price wise post event. I’d rather they be stable (well, as stable as you can ask for anyway), barring instability created by the new recipes….

“- Account-bound Gear with stats that scale with level, possibly rewarded from personal story”

This could actually be done like the HoM rewards, as apply-able skins (that you can keep getting, like the HoM skins), then the stats are entirely up to you.

Lot of good stuff, plenty I hadn’t even thought of but would really like to see.

I think karma should be account bound. As it is, I keep a running stash of the Jugs of Karma in my bank because I never know which one of my alts is going to need it. I’m not sure what the downside of account bound karma is, it’s not really any different than account bound gold, it’s just another purchasing currency.

Dyes should definitely be account bound, but I’d settle for just the rare dyes being so. I can’t even afford one Abyss Dye right now and a true black is definitely a color I’d like all my characters to have. Given current market prices we’re talking 160g for one color for each class. This is obviously not even including other high dollar rare dyes like Celestial, which would be another 80g to cover 8 alts.

Some system to display what recipes are already known by other characters on your account would be nice too. I’ve bought at least 2 recipes off heart merchants that it turned out I already knew.

A lot of these ideas are nice, but…

I don’t think dyes should be account wide.

But, I guess this is a difference in background. I come from having played 2 years of Mabinogi.
Over there – Dyes are specific to your gear piece. You use it once on a single part of one item and it’s destroyed. You must buy another dye for each piece you wish to dye.

So, I think that dyes being reusable on a character is extremely generous of ANet.
And I respect the fact that dyes from the gem-store are part of how they make an income.

Soulbound items should never be tradeable. This distinction exists both to keep the market from being over-saturated and allow players to maintain value in their items.

It also reduces the level of inflation, as there would be fewer items one can sell back to the vendor, as well as there being less incentive to hack accounts if you can’t, say, take a person’s legendary weapon for yourself.

What needs to be regulated better is ANet’s choices on what is or is not soulbound.

“Bleeding, Poison, Confusion, Torment, they all look delightful on you.”
