GW2 Armory or inspect

And most of those “explanations” are: “blah blah blah elitism, blah blah blah kicking” etc.
Inspecting is actually a great idea – people who kick because of bad gear already make gear checks so nothing would change.

So? Most of those explanations are correct: It will breed elitism, and there’s enough of that in the game already.
If you want to know what gear someone is wearing, ask them!

The elitism is already there. Gear check parties exist and are only ones where I encountered kicking for bad gear. Inspect would be just a convenient feature and there is no reason why it would increase the number of people kicked for gear. When you go to a farming party you are expected to have certain gear and when you go to a casual party then pretty much no one cares about gear and profession. So sorry but I don’t buy those explanations. Also inspect would be great when you see a person with a nice armor piece and you want to know what skin is it and the person is afk/doesn’t respond.
I would rather not have it tbh.
It breeds elitism,i still remember wow days with gear score.
and this game is not as taxing as wow raids so no need for it.

1. The elitism is already here
2. Gear score replaced entire gear with one number and here you won’t have this mistake
Only thing that changes is that people joining gear check farming parties don’t have to ping and group leader can take a quick look by himself. If you have nothing to hide there is nothing to worry about.
To sum it up: Inspecting already exists, adding this function will only make it easier.
Afraid I must throw in another vote against any kind of gear inspection, the only time I’d want it really is to find out what a piece of gear is with a style i like but I can ask for people to link me those pieces.
Not a big fan of people micromanaging other players, sure it will save time for party leaders inspecting gear on CoF farming but they can always ask people to link gear and generally remove people that refuse to.
My worry is thakitten would be the thin end of a fat wedge, with people getting kicked from other dungeon groups when they have perfectly acceptable gear but not of all it perhaps oranges or the right kind of upgrades etc.

Or they could be told that getting x instead of y would get them a lot of benefit and get other usefull tips. Most team now don’t care about gear so I seriously doubt they’ll suddenly start inspecting like crazy and mass kick other players. Srsly you’re demonizing inspecting and searching for problems where there are none.
It is not my intention to demonize it, these are just worries I have and I think the positive aspects it could bring are outweighed by the negative ways it can be used.
I think it is far easier for people to take one look at someones gear and kick them without exchanging a word. If people want to help others and these people want to be helped then it is a mutual exchange and they can link gear to one another.
Wowa,HOLD THE phone here.
I did not want inspect or armory to see if the player has good gear or not, that does not bother me at all, why I want it is to see what other people have and to compare it, see the prices, etc. If you see their armor and go like oh wow (something from the gem store) you can inspect them and see whakitten is
I wrote about it too, but there is a vocal minority that is so afraid of elitism (which is alredy here) that they will write anything to stop inspection from being implemented (there might be some mf leechers as well since inspecting would stop such selfish behavior).

I think this more or less confirms my suspicions about your desire for an inspect option.

Not really, when I play with PUGs they are almost always CoF p1 farming groups so MF leechers aren’t a problem. But I won’t deny that I approve MF leecher kicking. Even the devs said MF was a bad idea.

Only part I worry about is the gear check people. Even if they don’t nessicarily increase in numbers with inspects/armory added, they do gain a tool to judge others extremely easy. With the addition of such a feature there would be a larger outcry of people getting kicked when forming groups ‘for no reason’
And it will all be becuase gear checkers would just boot people after inspecting with likely not saying a word.
Frankly for the effort needed to implement something like that I don’t think it’s worth the potential damage to the community that they trying to Foster. The dev resources would be better used elsewhere.
Simply put inspects lead to elitest griefing.

People already have a tool for judging others:
- no ping gear → kick
- magic find stacks → kick
- using wrong weapon (for example warrioir using rifle) → kick
etc.
In farming parties such things already happen and in casual parties I didn’t seen anyone being kicked for gear but have seen tons of kicks for not listening to others or being akitten.

Some people are already kicking without a word based on profession you play. But it is extremely easy to find a party even when writing something like this “LF2M we hate DPS” or “LFG p1 I hate DPS”. Even at CoF which is the most farmed dungeon there are tons of people who just want to do daily run and go and they take almost anyone.

Doubt this option would need a lot of effort: it is just one extra option in context menu and one extra window.

No, the elitism is already here. It is encountered in CoF p1 mostly since getting the right professions with the right gear speeds the run a lot and when farming people want to do it effectively. Hard to blame them for not wanting to do 10 minute runs instead of 7 minute ones.
Why I would use it:
- See a weapon/item someone is wearing and inspect them, then just see the price of it,etc.
- Show them in big view
- See their cool weapons,etc.
- Its just a nice feature that makes the game more of an mmo.
by the way you guys are very correct about the kicking, it has happened to me twice so far where I was doing a dungeon and they asked me my gear (that was even before we entered ). So like I do think that the benefits would outway the negatives.
There is no such thing as elitist griefing.
There are simply “kittens” you don’t actually want to play with, who do you the favor of kicking you.
I support an inspect function and complete transparency of spec.
