Name Change Ticket, Please

And as Gaily Gray noted in the other thread about Name Changing, the feature is on its way, it’s just that Anet has said so the past 3-4 months… … and meanwhile we wait in the dark…

In the past 3-4 months, they just said it was being worked on. Recently, Gaile started saying it would be available “soon.”
In any case: it’s coming. My bet is that the code is done, but they still have to work out things like costs and how to address the inevitable support issues (“I changed the wrong character’s name” or “I want my old name back” or “I made a typo”).
The answer to all those should be very simple; like when you delete a char of your own and make a new one, your past names are reserved for 24 hours. The mechanism is already in place – if you’re dumb enough to change the name and not realise you’ve screwed up and then care enough to buy another name change to revert/fix, then after 24 hours there’s no pity really.
But I agree, it’s coming, and they’re probably scratching their head what price tag to fix to it – they should make it an option as part of the Total Makeover Kit too.
Anyway – ETA deadline for me is 15 days. GW2 is over for me if yet another month’s update comes and goes without this feature.

I do agree… it needs to be out soon. I am giving it two weeks, all while I will be messaging their support system to resolve it, I never count on “It’s coming soon” because ‘soon’ is a relative term. My version of soon is less than 2 weeks. Their version might be 2 months.
It’s very annoying not having this ability since launch. I do not know any game in which a makeover and name change were not available, so I don’t understand why it wasn’t pre-made prior to launching the game honestly. They knew they’d have to squeeze it ikittenome point I figure.
You guys want to stop playing a game because it is missing a cosmetic feature? That seems a bit extreme, even if you hate the current name.
Coding any feature (and developing the support response) takes resources and the developers have to pick a few things to emphasize, a few things to work on soon, and that often means dropping really good other ideas for a while. Everyone wants more features, everyone wants annoying bugs fixed, and everyone has personal favorites about both. If you were in charge of making millions of people happier with the game, you might also decide that name changes could wait, while the dev & support teams worked on something else.
Not a huge fan on name changing tbh, it’s kind of your identity online. In some games it’s used to abuse. Personally I would rather they find more ways to make your character more individualized & customized, so you don’t end up looking like the next 4 people standing next to you.. that’s the difference with MMORPGs.. you’re trying to create an online persona – an individual, not a clone. Just my 2cents.
