As Colin mentioned in another thread, we’re investigating a bug that’s causing scaled up creatures to deal more damage than intended. (Originally they were capped to scale for 10 players, we’ve been boosting the scale caps on some events to handle many more players, but this is boosting their damage way too much.) I don’t have an ETA for that. I’m also looking at Jonez in particular, right now he’s using default creature stats, so I’d like to make him a lot tougher. Again, I don’t have an ETA yet, sorry!

It’s unfortunate that the new scaling cap that has been implemented cannot simply be rolled back to pre patch until it works correctly at high player density.

There’s a Champion Risen Wraith that spawns during the Grenth pre-events as well. Last night a group of about 15 of us were trying to protect the cannon and a champ wraith spawned. We must have fought that thing for at least 20 minutes and we couldn’t even make a dent in its health. We just repeatedly wiped without even being able to get close to it. The range on its attack is absolutely insane (it seems to be longer than 1200) and the amount of damage it dishes out is equally crazy. Eventually we managed to draw it away from the cannon while others finished the event.

On top of that, we all ran into massive DR once we finally completed the event. Once we finished the defense event for the cannon, the champ didn’t go away. Its name turned yellow but whenever we tried to revive Jonez and the other NPCs, it became hostile again and start killing everyone in the area. Thankfully Jonez eventually was able to get away from the champ (once he stopped attacking it…) and the champ de-spawned. But then we all had to deal with diminishing returns since the game thought we were farming the same area for 30+ minutes.

Oh, then to put a nice end to the whole series of events, the defense of Jonez at the temple itself failed because a ridiculous champion risen spider appeared and one shot him, causing the event to fail without warning or a chance to actually do something about it.

I’m really glad you guys are looking into this. I love the new event scaling that makes things more interesting. But this level of difficulty isn’t fun. It’s just plain punishing.

Oh, it’s hilarious. These champs just slaughter small armies with ease. But it’s also rather frustrating if you’re actually trying to do the event.

Wow, I thought I was alone in this, I met the champ wraith the other day, never had before though…or I should say I met loads of dead players before I realised running away was a good thing to do, am a warrior with lots of shout heals and speed moves so got away, just.

It’s ridiculously powerful, Keep it, but move it far away from the camp cos it just murders people for even being near it.

If it’s kept, it desperately needs balancing. Having 20+ people get slaughtered almost instantly and at the same time isn’t exactly fun, especially when the target heals to full just by attacking.

Life Transfer and Egg-laying are supposed to be interrupted, only in theory however.

CC in this game is horribly designed for open world PVE, because the implementation of Defiant stack is a punishment for using CC rather than a reward.

I was in a zerg, interrupting the champion and causing 63 stacks of Defiant due to scaling. This means one single untimely CC mistake will result in a very harsh punishment.

CC won’t work for open world PVE for these reasons:

1) PUGs can never be corrdinated in removing Defiant.

2) It takes just ONE CC mistake to screw up the whole removal effort.

3) The event scaling for the number of Defiant stacks exponentially aggravates the punishment.

4) For many open world champions, soft CCs like cripple, chill, blind, etc only last for some length close to 0 sec.

That’s why most people in open world PVE don’t bring CC weapons or utilities.

P.S. On the subject of the egg-laying of the champion spider, the anticipation part of the animation is the same as its web-pull, egg-injection, and even normal attacks. So, trying to interrupt the egg-laying is a risky gamble.

Never mind that even with defiant up you will see “interrupt” popups when a CC is applied, giving the erroneous impression that you actually interrupted something.

This similar to how you will see the combo heart every time a projectile finisher pass thru a field, even tho said projectile only have a 20% chance to actually produce a finisher result.

We killed the Champion Wraith at Shelter’s on Desolation tonight. It is actually quite easy, and just requires players to listen and follow some basic tactics:

1) When he is in the air casting health leach, don’t go anywhere near him. Go completely out of range and stay there. He doesn’t move while casting, so if no-one goes near him, he can’t gain any health or kill anyone.

2) When he lands again, move in and attack him.

3) Rinse and repeat.

Took a while for people to pay attention to these tactics and to learn not to run in like an idiot while he was casting. Once people started to pay attention, he died quite easily. Having someone call when to move in/out seemed to help.

It doesn’t help at all for the one during the Defend Jonez Event, since Jonez stay there to die in 10 seconds.

Also, all of this is a proof Guild Wars 2 need a testing / beta server .

Whenever I see the chickens incoming, I scream in /s chat:

“CHAMPION KFC INCOMING” (direct quote)

Then, I quickly evade backwards twice and use my fire skill 4 (staff ele) for good measure, and start flinging magic from the farthest spot possible.

Because I know the last time I try to be near it, it suddenly kills every single people around.

Played around in Orr after having read this thread. Can sort of see where the frustration comes from but I find it rather fun. Playing Ele, btw. You definitely don’t want to stand around auto-attacking, or even stick around (swoop in, unload, swing while backing out and if you need to, use a block or evade if you take a huge hit).

I think the main problem is that NPCs can be demolished too quickly. Quite a few events require you to defend NPCs and if there are too many enemies, there’s very little you can do to protect them with all the AoEs. You can try to rush the enemies before they get to the NPCs but if they aren’t stationary they likely go chasing after the enemies to their death.

For advice, don’t wear Magic Find gear

Or if you want to wear Magic Find, maybe look into some Mercy runes and some traits to help revive faster. Being killed isn’t the end of the world or even the battle.

So yeah, I’m going to take the unpopular position and suggest an adjustment in your play. If you have 8+ players about, you have to start thinking more craftily than just hitting things until they die. Use them reflects/projectile destructs, stealth to rez unharassed, buff the strangers beside you and try to coordinate (a tiny bit).

Unfortunatly, most GW2 players have been conditioned to expect the game to be nothing more then a mindless spam when it comes to content, and it’s hardly their fault as the majority of GW2 is just that.
So when an event comes along that actually requires some form of stratagey or skill setup people complain that it’s broken.
Of course there are events and enemies out there that really are scaled or desinged badly, especially when NPC’s are involved. The final Balathazar event comes down to simply memorising enmy spawns so they can be intercepted before reaching the glass NPC’s you are supposed to be defending.
TBH I don’t think I’ve run into this fellow yet, or if I had I don’t remeber him. Is he the fellow that spawns in Cursed Shores near noose raod? Because the last time I fought him we pulled him away from the NPC’s and the camp so he got less HP from his drain to kill him. Granted there were only 5 of us so maybe he scales poorly, or I may be thinking the wrong event.

I think the spiders at the end of the events aren’t despawning. Hence why they drop no loot, because technically I think they are bugged. I’m not 100% on that, but at very least it is annoying to kill 30+ vet spiders for no loot. Tough battles for farming i can understand, OP mobs who you need to have more skill than most dragon/boss encounters.. maybe I can deal with that too. But if I’m going to endure this torture at least give me loot :P

It is not worth several minutes trying to take down Champion Risen Wraith, especially if it already destroyed the event objectives. Better to leave the instance and let it despawn rather wasting time just to kill it and getting a small loot from it.

Everytime I see new patch notes I know something will be screwed more as before. Anet, you should really consider making public test servers or at least hire competent people to test it. Your fight against farming is ridiculous. This is a MMO, every MMO has it.
Do you know why? The fact that you put low effort into it is maybe boring, but the actual profit for players if fun experience! You wanted to make casual game, but with every patch, you are making it more hardcore and unplayable. And for what reason? So everybody will drop their pursuit for the legendary? So more players will buy gems to buy ingame materials? I hope this is not your goal.
Your goal was to boost open world and diminish instances. Well, turn off CoF farming and boost open world farming, not destroy it. Nobody will come to open world if you do patches like this.

This post maybe sounds offensive, but I really love this game for the whole year I play it. Please listen to your community, don’t think you know better than we do. Thank you.

Some patches hardly make it hardcore, just make farming less of a chore.

Increased loot table and 1 guarunteed rare (and exotic apparently, got one today from it) from world events in exchange of farming them all day? Absolutly!

Dailies with options? Absolutly! Keep them coming!

Fixing events that are clearly producing more loot than others (spawning congestion in orr)? Necessary, all events should be rewarding people appropriatly. Why even do the temples or any pact meta events if you can sit in one spot swinging wildly to collect loot?

The bugs are the problem, not the changes. Collin even said the scaling isn’t working properly. A public test server would be smart, to work out any bugs before being released. A lot of content that gets either released or changed lately has had its share of bugs, which seems like things may not be tested properly but hey, you pay $0 for them. Not the end of the world..

I don’t know why you count some rares and laurels as farming goals… When I farm, I farm gold or material. One rare for 20s once per day doesn’t make up for the old events. I know that scaling in them is bugged, but it seems to be more bugged than working, lately. That’s what bothers me.

If they put public test server into game, I will gladly join it from time to time and help to improve this game

I think it didn’t make it into today’s release notes since the fix got in so last minute, but a bug causing some of the newer bosses to scale their damage out of reasonable bounds has been fixed and will be included in today’s patch.

These bosses will now use the same damage scaling system consistent with champions in the game that scale normally.

Right now there is a champion wraith inside of Shelter’s on Borlis Pass. It is IMPOSSIBLE to kill it because of the friendly NPCs spawning around it and just running up and feeding it HP. Even if all of the players run back as it’s lifestealing, you can’t control the NPCs and tell them to run away. And because it’s in the middle of shelters, all of the NPCs just keep respawning and aggroing it, which makes it impossible for it to leave and impossible to kill. The boss is a good idea and requires some fun mechanics to beat, but it needs to be moved away from the stupid braindead AI that don’t know how to do anything except run up and hit it.
