Q:
Wrongfully promoted guild leader
Remake the guild?
I don’t know how you can screw up that royally
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
You are out of luck. The game doesnt differentiate between founders and promoted people. You have to start a new guild if you cant live with it or cant convince him to demote himself.
I agree the officers, if they vote unanimously, should have that power. Sort of similar how in the US government, if all members of the Cabinet Sectrs determine unanimously that the President is incapable of leading the country.

Well that would mean we loose all our upgrades, so not really an option until it really turns bad.
it was never inteded to make him also a leader. the person just clicked a bit to fast and now the damage is done. (sort of speak)
Could try reporting it in the support forums or in-game…who knows, might be a way ANet can help.

The person really doesn’t want to give it back? I can’t imagine anyone in our guild acting like that, do you know that person well?

the person is not a bad person but anytime we bring it up to demote himself hes ignoring it. He said he would demote himself but he doesnt do it. altough it takes just a second to do it
No one has the ability to gkick him? I’m not familiar with the guild ranks, although I’m surprised there is no GM rank (only one).

Sounds like he’s not going to. If I were you I would remake the guild and not invite that dude again. You can regain the upgrades but you can’t force that guy out of his position of power.

no ppl one the same level cannot kick/demote each other
I was also surprised that once you get to that leader level your bassicly untouchable.
Well, your last option is to open a ticket/customer service, or GM. They may be able to do something, but may is the key word.

There is technically a GM only rank but you can create other ranks with the same powers. Not sure why you wouldn’t just make yourself a GM with the other position lower just to avoid this kind of thing from happening. Anet probably won’t do anything because you promoted him to that rank. Remake the guild or convince him to demote himself is the only way to do it.

Absolutely this. What absurd behavior. Maybe he thinks you guys will just give up and let him stay there.

we actualy have no clue why he is ignoring the request to demote himself.
its like a side of him we never known is shown here. maybe (i hope) hes just messing with us. nonetheless its a problem than could happen in any guild if somebody is promoted by accident since all ranks are shown when you promote somebody.
What the person is doing by refusing to demote himself says a HUGE amount of their character.
You would do well to understand what is happening here. If you ever get him to demote. The next step is to remove him from the guild.
There is no excuse he can give at this point that is sufficient to defend his lack of action.
If he doesn’t, then it appears that you have little choice it seems.
I think if he refuses to give back guild leadership, they have a right to be this concerned. I don’t think it’s overreacting.
This is why there was always only one single GM slot for guilds in other MMOs, to avoid situations like this. The fact that there doesn’t seem to be any way to make a change to the officer lineup is ridiculous, and should be rectified.
Shouldn’t the founder be ranked above any other rank and able to demote any other rank? I have some ‘Co-leaders’ who have access to all abilities in the guild yet I can still demote them.
Just get the founder of the guild to demote the guy, done. Just have a look at the attached picture the top one should be the person in charge and able to demote anyone. As far as I’m aware only one person can be that rank (Correct me if I’m wrong).

yes you can promote ppl to the top level as you (the founder) we did this for the 3 leaders (1 founder, 2 extra leaders) to cover the maximum time zones we have in our guild. now by just a misclick (from the founder, not me) we are in a situation that in a worst case, we have no control over a member. noting yet has happend and we are kinda sure nothing will happen, but we took precautions because he is no longer responding to anybody.
You should really contact support and hope they have a solution. There is really no black and white answer to this issue, but learn from this experience, and let it serve as a warning to the rest of the community. Also, my sympathies, and hope this gets resolved favourably.

solution: make everyone leader!

ty, we have contacted support and are waiting for a response.
as we knew finding the answer on the forum was a long shot it also served as a message towards other guilds.
and yes we are learning from this experience, and are hoping a solution will come so this wont happen to other guilds as well.
Next time when you make a guild, make new ranks and don’t use “Officers” and “Members” so you’ll have a significant space between the leader and the rest.

One of my favorite guilds I was in, back when I played WoW, didn’t have guild ranks. It was just “Guild Leader,” and “Member.” Everything was voted on democratically, everybody was expected to chip in to police the chat, and there were no ranks to aspire to in order to squash the chance of people squabbling over rank.
Would making another rank with all privalages work? you promote yourself to it, then remove the other guys priverlages and demote him? =]
As I am sure you are finding out the language and words that we use to communicate are important.
Much like doctors have a language that they use. They use the medical terms and terminology to communicate because its a very specific and precice means of communication. It reduced the chance for there to be a misunderstanding that could result in harm comming to a patient.
So when you call someone a co-leader you are implying by name that they are at the same level you are and should have all of the bennifits that come with that rank. So yes, dedicated member would be a MUCH better title for that rank.
I don’t have 100 friends, I don’t want 100 friends.
But yes, the friends that I do have, have access to my house and I to theirs.
We keep each others fridge stocked with beer.
this is not a random, untrustworthy player, its a member from our GW1 guild
the fact we have 3 actual leaders was always like that.
Well, now you have 4. Since he is a player you know well and is trustworthy, I don’t see the problem with that.
and yes we have many ranks. one is even Co-Leader for other highly active members that contribute to the guild. and the idea was that he would get that status. meaning we can still control him in case of what ever.
So he’s not trustworthy after all. You might want to consider putting your other “leaders” under a bit of control as well if they’re going to be clicking the wrong buttons and such. Meritocracy and all that.
In my opinion, there should only be 1 guild founder, which is the highest and the system should never allow to have more than 1 person in this position. Also, in cases where the guild founder wants to quit and needs to pass leadership, then there needs to be extra confirmation “Do you really want to pass leadership” message of some sort.

Well call us paranoid if you want, but its quite common you’ll see someones true colors when its to late. So thats why we still want control if someones gets carried away by a title.
and for the part that we need to watch more what we click. everybody at some point clicked at something by mistake, let it be in a game or something even more important that affects real life (god forbid). thats why confirmation windows where inventend and added in places where important decissions need confirmation so your ok with the action your just did.
I might have a solution. Not sure, you can try it though.
You can’t demote him because he’s leader.
Make a new rank. Move it above him, give it full permissions. Give one of the leaders (real leaders) this rank.
(You can promote ranks via dragging them up the list.)
Then have that person demote him.
I don’t know if it will work, but it’s a thought. (I might try it in mine just to see if I can XD)

thank you for the suggestion but we already tried that. But he was promoted to the top level, and you can not drag any ranking above it
Start having your other members send him messages asking him to demote himself. Really spam him hard. He will crack eventually.
Would it be a good idea to have a confirmation pop-up when you promote someone to the leader position, and also for the “kick from guild” would be very handy imo….
