A theory about Tarnished Coast...
A decent enough theory if I ever heard one.
~Tarnished Coast since the beginning
You also have a lot of people who came to the server not to roleplay, but because they enjoy the atmosphere and community that roleplayers usually bring about based on past experiences and enjoy just being apart of it.
This post by Bluebizzer is why Transcendent Veneration chose TC. The community that we came here expecting has more than exceeded the level of sportsmanship and camaraderie we could have hoped for. Yes, there are differences of opinion and mistakes are made on the battlefield. But we pick up and start again and push back every single time we’re out on those grounds.
I also agree with the OP. When you look at the battle as more of an experience to be had than a contest to be won, you’re never going to be on the losing end. I think that there’s a lot to be said about a community that feels as strongly as we do on TC that it’s not just about winning. We’re here for epic battles and no matter what that score board says, we’re having them. Every night.
That which yields is not always weak.
There’s many reasons, be it community, RP or what have you but the crux is that we seem to have a pretty large core of people that won’t transfer off when the going gets bad.
It doesn’t necessarily help us win, but it helps us not lose.

I think you are right Zoula. As long as we continue to have fun, even when not winning, we’ll definitely not lose in the long run.
I love that so many people have this positive outlook… even in the war zone.
The Tarnished Coast has been a great server, and all of us from The Shadow Legion (TSL) are very happy we chose this server. It can not be stated enough how great the community is on this server.

I have an addition to the OPs theory. By not having separate PVE/PVP server mechanics, and only having one generally agreed on RP server, we not only got most of the RPers, but a solid number of the RP-PVPers from other games as well (I’ve run into more people from The Venture Co and Jung Ma than I would ever have imagined and I’ve only been in for a couple weeks…). And RP-PVPers are just as much about the story — but our stories tend to involve a whole lot more bashing the enemy over the head than most people think of when you say “roleplayer” …and if we find we can’t win? Well, we’re taking them down with us at the very least…
I have a “special” relationship with Lady Luck. She smiles on me often.
Usually, it’s with derision.
Don’t mind me. I am just here to spread the love around some more. I first transferred to TC because of a friend until we decided on a new server but, the community here on TC has been fantastic. TC for life! We may not be beating CD at the moment but, we are certainly holding our ground.

A happy TCer posting in a happy TC thread!
I agree with Aurhia, RPers are nice, but RP-PVPers are awesome! It’s like our world has a healthy dose of drama, bring a tissue….. wedged into a summer action movie, heck yeah!

I was on TC for a while, before I switched to Anvil Rock for sPvP, and its a really good community. Even if you dont plan on RPing, they make everything fun, and always have high spirits.
I RP. Tons of commanders don’t though so…maybe but I don’t know. I think people just have a nice disposition about things?
I mentioned something similar in a post before:

What I didn’t mention was that in a PvP setting I was killed by a TC player who PM’d me after I was dead and asked if I was hungry. He then came over and made me BBQ pork (his 2nd profession was chef).
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
Bluebizzer.1950You also have a lot of people who came to the server not to roleplay, but because they enjoy the atmosphere and community that roleplayers usually bring about based on past experiences and enjoy just being apart of it.
Yeah, that’s exactly why I decided to stay here. The roleplaying community is generally a far more pleasant one. (Coming from a PvP enthustiast, who hasn’t partaken in anything inherently RP’ish for well over a decade!)
Also, I’ll never forget that moment after transferring and logging in on TC for the first time…
First three words that I see in map chat: YIFF – BRONY! – PINKYPIE!@
wtf.. what is this place?? these people.. omg, I think I picked the furry server…. ._.
I later found out that it was the “unofficial RP server.” They were kicking kitten in WvW at the time as well, and I had a gut feeling that the majority of the players there would be friendly/humorous/fun to be around. So I stayed.
But then there’s Tarnished Coast. And it’s filled with the RPers.
I like playing for the underdogs in PvP, and the RP community always comes across as such! I’ve had a lot of fun helping you guys kick butt.
Good theory, I like it.
Sometimes I wish the enemy can see what we are typing in WvW – lol.
I second everything in this post. TC is the best server around. Very happy Bloodgale Vanguard decided to come here. We have never even considered the possibility of a server transfer. All of the people I’ve met on TC, feel the same way. It is awesome to have that type of loyalty. Nothing better to bring a community together.
