After patch current top 3 wvw classes
Large group fights. (Mind you, played by GOOD players, not baddies. Any baddie on any character will die regardless of ranking or class.)
- Elementalist
- Necromancer
- Guardian
- Engineer
- Mesmer
- Warrior
- Ranger
- Thief
Small group (Yet again, played by goodies)
- Guardian
- Engineer
- Ranger
- Thief
- Necromancer
- Elementalist
- Mesmer
- Warrior
This is just my opinion at playing 5/8 of these classes and having fought many in both large and small scale battles.
Go ahead, you need to be on EU Server for that. But for the rest contact me ingame and spare the rest of us with your progamer attitude here in this discussion. Youre quite ridiculous.

Why engis are called bad is cuz no one knows how to properly build them
People think engis are bad, because so few use them. Seeing one In wvw is like spotting an exotic animal. They’re excellent 1v1. The issue with them in Zerg vs Zerg is grenades are a liability when your opponents use a lot of retaliation. I see more engis slay themselves than get killed by that said Zerg.
Exactly the same reason why people think necros are bad, bad builds/bad players/low players/bad rap. I have seen engineers kick but in PVP but it’s very very rare.

Engineer is not bad, they’re definitely one of the harder profession to learn and be good at. It’s unpopular due to its high learning curve. But if played correctly is almost unbeatable 1v1 and can handle multiple enemies easily just like any other profession in the correct hands, the point is, the profession is great, but it’s not for everyone. In my opinion, it’s for PVP enthusiasts that want to prove how good they are by being good at a low tier profession…it’s a highly skill dependent profession, it’s like a stick shift car that can potentially run faster than automatic cars, but it takes a little more effort from the user to pull off. I’m not proficient with it yet, I’m still learning it, and it has been the most bitter sweet experience so far. This being said my top 3 are:
1. Elementalist (Staff)
2. Necromancer (Power build, Wells)
3. Guardian (Staff AOE Auto easy and simple, Boon, Might Stacking, CC/Warding)

But when you get into paddle shifting thats another story haha. But yes I totally agree with this, I have faced/teamed up with some very skilled engineers that just destroyed. I have also met very highly skilled engineers in PVP that were as you said almost impossible to kill. And how well does ele do with staff? I heard AOE damage is low, I personally don’t have one so no idea. But I haven’t had issues with them either other then that super tanky bunker build they have.

I think a problem with this discussion is that some people are focusing on specific fights while others are more giving an impression of overall WvW fights. I like how some have made two lists.
Take for instance a point made earlier about Thief short-bow. I don’t have a thief but have had a chance to jump on my friend’s thief. I like thief a lot and it has some big strengths and some big weaknesses. Anyways, if I trait for short-bow use, I literally have to change how I play his thief by a lot. But in big fights that build shines, the nearly spammable AOEs you can lay down are great. Downside? Its closer range than you’d like, so I have to switch gear to make him more durable, lowers his dps but that isn’t why I am going short bow.
I have come across very tough engineers and rangers, typically they can just dodge alot and because they are good they dodge at the right times, all the while putting out solid dps.
But when I consider ‘best’ I consider it ‘overall best’. And classes that have good dps, lots of AOEs (support or dps or cc) and escape/survival mechanisms are what I will always rank high since they can do well in ANY fight. Its why I put Ele high up along with guardians. Necros have some great abilities and I can see why some would place them high up. Maybe as I level my alt necro up I’ll see why some rank them very high but I currently feel they are great for big fights but so-so for small grp.
Anyways, I’d love a Ranger bump since I like my Ranger. I’ll also add I have tried my firends engineer and they are really hard to play well, lots of timing and I think if I wanted to make one I’d get a programmable keyboard because GW2’s UI is pretty lame.
Thief with shortbow + s/d + venom aura + signet of malice can be REALLY good for zerging and in smaller groups. I run a tanky s/d sometimes with signet of malice and you can just tear up the guts of an opposing zerg.
Hammer warriors are also great for zerging, with plenty of blast finishers to give area retaliation/cleanse/might, stuns/disruptions and for great justice, shake it off, banners, increasing toughness to nearby members and etc. Few good hammer warriors can really decimate an opposing zerg.
did this patch make rangers any better?
Im getting 50-60 badges a night on my ranger. They arent perfect by any means but they arent trash like people claim them to be.
hmm necro hadnt thought of making one of those is crazy how it seems no def top 3
i take it wvw is different then pvp

You need a team around you to set up your blasts, warrior.
From what I am seeing so far, Necros still seem to be taking the sting out of the warrior frontline. Perhaps Im just running into Warriors with the old builds, Ill rebuild my Warrior how I think they should be done this week and give it a run, but statistically I see them as a top 3 until I get the experience of playing these new stats available.
It is weird that very few people do mention engies, rifle ones have enough tools to shine in large battles and pistol ones are a force to be reckoned with.
Oh I see what I didn’t understand, zerker gear is the best choice for a condition based class. You are such a good player you can kill zergs by yourself and guardian is a really bad support class in large groups. Yeah my tiny little brain, I must try to broaden my experience so I can fully understand your genius.
Zerker gear IS the best choice for a necro yes, I will continue to say this because conditions are broken right now and I have tested every build under the sun for necro. Just saying the damage is very high allowing multiple people to be dropped fast when I dive into a big zerg and do a quick AOE well bomb. And zastari I hope we can duel somehow, and I assure you will take that back Since you rated necro last place out of all classes in WvW backs my point even more that condition based necros are not a viable option. Top necro players do NOT use condition based gear.
I invite you to come to T9 and fight a necro in my guild. He’ll change your mind about condition not being viable
