Dagger Storm isn’t going to kill anyone in one go. Except maybe the thief. Guardian, Necro and Mesmer can counter it easily through reflection and boon stripping, and the rest can negate it – any class in PvP should be able to absorb or reflect a spike.

Step 1: Go out in the borderlands.

Step 2: Find a lowbie

Step 3: Summon thieves guild, walk over to a corner, type /sit, watch the thieves guild DPS the lowbie and scorpion wire him back when they try to run.

I’m a Thief. I use shortbow in WvW and Daggers in PvE. Only time I use daggers is when we’re chasing an enemy and I’m losing my zerg because they’re chasing him too much, so I put an end to his life.

As for Daggerstorm… I use it when portal bombing. Get 5 thieves in a PB using that and GG.

Based on most of the posts you’ve made in the past few months, it makes perfect sense to me that you play a Thief.

If I’m witha group i use Dagger Storm, if I’m by myself i use Thieves Guild.

I never use it because I think it’s weak >.>

The only way I can get a team down or even 1 person is if they’re Glass Cannon and don’t know how to purge.

Yes, but having one high damage blast finisher aoe skill that you can use repeatedly (at your feet) is an option that most classes don’t have.

On my thief Thieves Guild 90% of the time, with Bas venom the remaining 10%. Dagger Storm is OK but hardly a fight determiner, one of Thieves least broken skills. On my mesmer/ele I hardly pay attention to it or I just see it as an opportunity to catch a thief out of stealth.

So what the hell would you have thieves using in WvW? Cause DS is the best elite we have for situations where you go up against large numbers of players. It’s OP? Sure it is, against bad players, but then agains, so is any other ability. Instead of ragaing you might want to start paying attention to the advice given.

Hope AN is taking notes on this, maybe thieves were OP once, now it’s just bad people whining.

You know what’s even worse than facing DS?

Tornado.

Less damage, range, no missile reflect, longer cooldown, and all around terrible. You will lose many valuable players who all stand there pondering what possessed an Elementalist to equip that horrible excuse for an elite when compared to skills such as DS.

I only use daggerstorm when we find an enemy portal. Then I drop it on/near the portal as the enemy starts to come through. Other than that, I hardly ever use an elite of any type for my thief. Basilisk venom seems to be bugged, and doesn’t always work anymore. Even when you land your first hit on targets… same with a few other venoms. That leaves you with thieves guild and dagger storm. IMO thieves guild is a very solo-centric skill. Where dagger storm has more team utility.

But I also don’t play berserker thief, so my daggerstorm is just used to reflect damage. Not deal damage.

Yes, I use daggerstorm, and I don’t just spam it the moment it’s off CD. It’s only effective against zergs, and there’s no point in it unless you have your own zerg to back you up. It doesn’t do enough damage to kill anything by itself so you NEED you own zerg to do enough damage. The AoE damage (to finish off wounded players) and panic (enemies turn around, meaning they stop dealing damage) is what makes this skill so powerfull. It’s a high risk skill (gets you killed half the time) but it can turn the tide of battle.

I don’t know what exploit you’re talking about, is it some glitch that allows stealth while daggerstorming?

So they’re “one of the best aoe classes” because they can “spam” an ability which has the slowest movement in the game and can’t be used again until it lands (Cluster Bomb), an ability with a 90 second cooldown (Dagger Storm), and one that can only be used once every 45 seconds, and only if there happens to be an enemy warrior around (Whirling Axe). I think you might need to look up what “spam” means.

Yes, you can use Cluster bomb 6+ times AT YOUR FEET with ease, effectively downing 5+ people easily in a zerg. That is spam.

I lol’d. I really hope you don’t believe this. Cluster Bomb at point blank range is good AOE, but even then, it’s still slow. Whirling Axe is unreliable and can’t be considered a legitimate reason for thief AoE. Dagger Storm is our elite on a 90s CD, and the daggers thrown out are random.
Thief is terrible at AoE. Elementalist has more AoE on regular abilities than thief can get out of anything. Hell, a warrior using Hundred Blades vs. a zerg is more dangerous than a thief using Cluster Bomb by far.

There are 8 classes in this game and thieves are ONE of the best aoe classes in the game. You effectively named 2 classes who you think have better aoe than thieves, and I would only agree with is elementalist. Guardians do great aoe damage too. Thieves have a spammable 5 target aoe skill with 1-1200 range. If you don’t see why that makes us one of the best aoe classes then I don’t know what to tell you, especially since we’re able to run generally far higher damage stats than other classes in WvW.

edit: and though I will say, I agree that daggerstorm isn’t op and pretty easily countered.

An Engineer out AoE a Theif any day with a Grenade kit just fyi. That makes another proffesion!
