Hi, I would like to know couple things about WvW. I got expansion.

Is there level restriction or can I play with any char?

Does the char get lvl 80 in WvW and can it wear lvl 80 items, for example if I would make elementalist and buy full exotic, could she wear it INSIDE WvW?

You can go into WvW on an under leveled character and/or under geared but I wouldn’t recommend it.
Most cases you’ll want to be lvl 80 with at least full exotic gear.
If you do WvW on an uplevel, you won’t be able to use lvl 80 gear, if that is what you are asking. You must actually meet the requirements on equipment in order to use it.

Level 60 minimum is only on the free to play accounts that require at least one character to 60 to unlock wvw for the entire account.

OP has the expansion, they should be able to enter wvw from level 2 if they can find their way to lion’s arch and through the wvw portals. Or wait to unlock the wvw panel on the menu bar, which I don’t exactly remember when that is, maybe around level 20. You can also get to lion’s arch through the spvp panel, which would port you to heart of the mists, the hub for spvp, and then you can take the lion’s arch portal there.

As for going in wvw under 80, you will always be boosted to level 80 as well as the stats from the gear you’re currently wearing, in fact sometimes you can stack certain stats like power and be able to boost that stat slightly above normal. I believe the lowest you can start getting exotics is from level 30’s.

Just a warning that many players in there are already level 80 and using level 80 exotic/ascended gear runes and sigils, which would give them the advantage in stats, as well as unlocked all their skills and traits, which is also a huge advantage. So don’t be discouraged if you’re getting beat up pretty fast. You can also spend some time in eotm(edge of the mist) to get a feel for easier wvw fighting.

Also since you have the expansion you probably got the free level 80 boost, which would permanently boost one character to level 80, as well as provide you with a full set of level 80 exotic armor/weapons/runes/sigils for that character. The boost can be used as a trial so you can try different classes and see what they are like at 80.

A general majority of players you will see will be in full ascended, optimised gear/builds, full infusions and HoT runes.

Now that’s not to say things are hopeless, I have leveled a character to 80 in every game mode / instant 80 and books. So I have taken a character from about 20 to 80 exclusively in wvw.

My suggestion to get enough skill slots unlocked is to pve to atleast 20.

Also keep in mind that what ever you do, don’t solo roam for 1v1 on your non80. 1v1ers will god mode burn you in seconds…see my first sentence.

Before the expansion I leveled the first 10 characters out my current 18 characters from level 2 to level 80 in WvW. Those were the good old days. Even during the beta I was playing WvW.

Yes, I died a lot more than others that had better gear that you get at level 80.

But I was having fun and getting better at playing in WvW.

Always remember this have fun and enjoy yourself playing the game.

Do not let others get to you if they are saying get out of WvW until you reach level 80. Just block them in the game if they are like that.

What matters the most is that you are having fun and you will reach level 80 quickly, at least in the old days I was able to go from level 2 to level 80 within 7 to 10 days by making sure I had every experience booster that you can have on you at the time.

Just to clear up:

You don’t get actual normal XP in WvW anylonger (nor EotM), instead you get a few Tomes of Knowledge from WXP level ups and from the reward track. These can naturally be consumed to gain 1 level per Tome.

You are scaled up in WvW, but that does not mean you are a level 80 character. It just boosts your stats and gear to roughly what it would be if you where an 80 and the gear was 80. You still are whatever level you where before, and have the same equipment restrictions etc (like no superior sigils and runes until 60 etc).

Also, technically you can get into WvW at level 1, if you can crash out of the tutorial somehow (I’ve done it).
